Microsoft Windows® XP Service Pack 2 Installation on your Itronix GoBook Tablet PC (IX300), GoBook III (IX260+) or GoBook II (IX260) Computer
Introduction
Itronix Corporation is licensed by Microsoft Corporation to supply Windows® based operating systems on Itronix’s rugged notebook and Tablet PC computers. This license requires Itronix to implement service packs on relevant operating systems within 90 days after Microsoft’s release. The intent of this Technical Bulletin is to make Itronix customers aware of our release of new disk images that incorporate Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition with Service Pack 2 for the GoBook II, GoBook III and GoBook Tablet PC.
Service Pack 2 was issued by Microsoft to improve security and reliability of the operating system and its various sub-components. This is a major upgrade and should be incorporated if at all possible. For more information on Service Pack 2 please go to www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2.
Problem
Beginning November 5, 2004, Itronix GoBook Tablet PC, GoBook II and GoBook III computers will be shipped with Windows XP Service Pack 2 based operating systems. Customers who have legacy applications that are not compatible with Service Pack 2 may experience problems with their deployment with this transition to Service Pack 2.
Solution
In order to support customers with legacy applications that are not compatible with Service Pack 2, Itronix will make available software image kits with Service Pack 1. The Service Pack 1 software kits can be used to generate custom disk images. These packs include a disk image and various drivers that can be used to configure a gold disk image to install on new or service units under the custom disk image process. The Service Pack 1 software kits are available now for GoBook Tablet PC, GoBook II and for GoBook III.
Itronix also offers SW Consulting Services that can assist customers with the transition to establish a custom disk image that includes Service Pack 1.
