PROPER USE
The angle grinder is designed for the cutting and rough grinding of metal and masonry using the appropriate cutting disk or rough grinding disk.
Please note that our equipment has not been
designed for use in commercial, trade or industrial applications. Our warranty will be voided if the machine is used in commercial, trade or industrial businesses or for equivalent purposes.
VOLTAGE
Before you use the machine for the first time, check that the voltage marked on the rating plate is the same as your mains voltage. Under no circumstances is the mains voltage to differ from the rated voltage by more than 10%.
SWITCH
To help prevent accidents, the right-angle grinder is equipped with a safety switch. To turn on the machine, push the switch forward and push down until it latches in place. To turn the right-angle grinder off, push the switch down. It will then jump back to its original position.
REPLACING THE GRINDING WHEEL (Fig. 5) Pull out the power plug.
Simple wheel change by spindle lock: Press the spindle lock and allow the grinding wheel to latch in place.Open the flange nut with the face spanner. Change the grinding or cutting wheel and tighten the flange nut with the face spanner.
Important! Only ever press the spindle lock when the motor and grinding spindle are at a standstill! You must keep the spindle lock pressed while you change the wheel!
For grinding or cutting wheels up to approx. 3 mm thick, screw on the flange nut with the flat side facing the grinding or cutting wheel.
TEST RUN FOR NEW GRINDING WHEELS
Allow the right-angle grinder to run in idle for at least 1 minute with the grinding or cutting wheel fitted in place. Vibrating wheels are to be replaced immediately.
MOTOR
It is vital for the motor to be well ventilated during operation. Be sure, therefore, to keep the ventilation holes clean at all times.
GRINDING WHEELS
Never use a grinding or cutting wheel bigger than the specified diameter. Before using a grinding or cutting wheel, check its rated speed. The wheel´s rated speed must be
GB
Anleitung BWS_115_850_3_SPK7:_ 19.07.2007 14:09 Uhr Seite 4
5
higher than the idle speed of the right-angle grinder.
Use only grinding and cutting wheels that are approved for a minimum speed of 11,000 rpm and a peripheral speed of 80 m/sec.
OPERATING MODES Rough grinding:
For the best rough grinding results, hold the grinding wheel at an angle of between 30° and 40° to the workpiece surface and guide back and forth over the workpiece in steady movements.
Cutting:
When you use the right-angle grinder for cutting purposes, avoid tilting it in the cutting plane. The cutting wheel must have a clean cutting edge. A diamond cutting wheel is best used to cut hard stone.
It is prohibited to use the machine on asbestos materials!
Never use a cutting wheel for rough grinding.

Never place any electric tools in your household refuse.
To comply with European Directive 2002/96/EC concerning old electric and electronic equipment and its implementation in national laws, old electric tools have to be separated from other waste and disposed of in an environment-friendly fashion, e.g. by taking to a recycling depot.
Recycling alternative to the demand to return electrical devices: As an alternative to returning the electrical device, the owner is obliged to cooperate in ensuring that the device is properly recycled if ownership is relinquished. This can also be done by handing over the used device to a returns center, which will dispose of it in accordance with national commercial and industrial waste management legislation. This does not apply to the accessories and auxiliary equipment without any electrical components which are included with the used device.

GENERAL SAFETY REGULATIONS
CAUTION! Read the instructions in full.
Any errors made in following the instructions set out below may result in an electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. The term “electric tool” used below refers to electric tools operated from the mains power supply (with a power cable) and to battery operated electric tools (without a power cable).
KEEP THESE REGULATIONS IN A SAFE PLACE!
1. WORK AREA
Keep your work area clean and tidy.
Disorder and insufficiently illuminated work areas can lead to accidents.
Do not use this tool in a potentially explosive
environment containing combustible liquids, gases or dust.
Electric tools generate sparks, which can in turn ignite dust or vapors.
Keep children and other persons away from
the electric tool while it is being used.
Allowing yourself to get distracted can cause you to lose control of the tool.
2. ELECTRICAL SAFETY
The toolʼs connector plug must be able to fit
into the socket outlet. Do not modify the plug in any way! Do not use adapter plugs in conjunction with electrically grounded tools.
Unmodified plugs and matching socket outlets reduce the risk of an electric shock.
Avoid touching grounded surfaces, such as
those of pipes/tubes, heaters, cookers and refrigerators.
There is an increased risk of getting an electric shock if you are electrically grounded.
Keep the tool away from rain and moisture/wet
conditions.
Penetration of water into an electric tool increases the risk of an electric shock.
Do not use the cable to carry the tool, hang it
up or pull the plug out of the socket. Keep the cable away from sources of heat, oil, sharp edges and moving tool parts.
Damaged or tangled cable increases the risk of an electric shock.
If you intend to use an electric tool outdoors,
ensure that you only use extension cable that is approved for outdoor applications.
Using extension cable that is approved for outdoor
applications reduces the risk of an electric shock.
Connect the electric tool to the mains power
supply (230V~, 50Hz) via a socket-outlet with earthing contact with maximum 16A protection. We recommend that you fit a residual-current protection device with a maximum nominal tripping current of 30 mA. Seek the advice of your electrician.
3. PERSONAL SAFETY
Be alert, work conscientiously and exercise
appropriate caution when using the electric tool. Do not use the tool if you are tired or are under the influence of drugs/medication or alcohol.
One moment of carelessness or lack of attention when using the electric tool can cause serious bodily injury!
Always wear personal protective equipment
(PPE), including safety goggles.
Wearing personal protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-slip footwear, protective headgear and ear muffs (depending upon the type of electric tool and the particular application) reduces the risk of sustaining injury.
Wear ear-muffs.
The impact of noise can cause damage to hearing.
Wear a breathing mask.
Dust which is injurious to health can be generated when working on wood and other materials. Never use the device to work on any materials containing asbestos!
Wear safety goggles.
Sparks generated during working or splinters, chips and dust emitted by the device can cause loss of sight.
Avoid unintentional startups. Ensure that the
switch is in the “OFF” position before you insert the plug into the socket outlet.
Physically touching the switch with your finger when carrying the tool or connecting the tool to the power supply switched on can lead to accidents.
Remove adjusting tools/wrench(es) prior to
switching on the power tool.
A tool or wrench that is positioned inside a rotating power tool part can cause injury.

Do not overestimate your abilities. Make sure
you stand squarely and keep your balance at all times.
This way, you will be able to have better control
over the tool in unexpected situations.
Wear suitable clothes. Never wear loose fitting
clothes or jewelry. Keep hair, clothes and gloves away from moving parts.
Loose clothing, dangling jewelry and long hair can be caught by moving parts.
If dust extraction and dust collection devices
can be mounted, ensure that these are connected and are properly used.
Use of such equipment reduces the risk associated with dust accumulation.
4. CAREFUL HANDLING AND USE OF ELECTRIC
TOOLS
Do not overload your tool. Only use suitable
electric tools to perform your work.
Using the right electric tool allows you to work better and safer within the toolʼs quoted capacity range.
Do not use an electric tool whose switch is
defective.
An electric tool that no longer can be switched on or off is dangerous and must be repaired.
Always pull the plug out of the socket outlet
before making any adjustments. Exchange accessory parts or put away the tool.
This precaution eliminates the possibility of inadvertently starting the tool.
When not in use, store electric tools out of the
reach of children. Do not allow those persons to use this tool who are unfamiliar with it or who have not read these instructions.
Electric tools are dangerous when they are used by inexperienced persons.
Take good care of your tool. Check that
moving parts properly function and do not jam, that parts are not broken off or damaged in any way and that the tool can be used to its full capacity. Have damaged parts repaired prior to using the tool.
The cause of many accidents can be traced back to poorly maintained electric tools.
Keep your blades sharp and clean.
Properly maintained blades with sharp edges jam less frequently and are easier to use.
Use electric tools and plug-in tools, etc. in
compliance with these instructions and in the manner that is prescribed for the model at hand. In so doing, pay due attention to working
conditions and the job to be performed.
Using electric tools for applications other than those intended can lead to dangerous situations.
If the power cable of the electric tool is
damaged, it must be replaced by a specially prepared connection lead which can be obtained from the customer service center.
5. SERVICE
Have your tool repaired only by authorized
specialists using original replacement parts.
This will ensure that your tool remains safe to use.
Special safety instructions
Always secure the workpiece if possible: Use
clamps or a vise to hold the workpiece securely. This is far safer than holding it in your hand and also means that you have both hands free to operate the electric tool.
Check that the speed shown on the grinding tool
is the same as, or faster than, the rated speed of the grinder.
Check that the dimensions of the grinding tool
match those of the grinder.
Grinding disks must always be used and stored
with care in accordance with the instructions of the manufacturer.
Always check the grinding disk before use.
Never use any disks with pieces broken off, which are cracked or are in any other way dam aged.
Check that grinding tools are attached in accor
dance with the instructions of the manufacturer.
Always use backing layers if they are supplied
with the grinding tool and their use is specified.
Check that the grinding tool is properly attached
and fastened before use and allow to run without load in a safe position for 30 s. Stop immediately if it should vibrate heavily or if any other fault should become apparent. Examine the machine to find the cause of the fault.
Never use the electric tool without the guard if a
guard is included in delivery.
Do not use separate reducer sleeves or adapters
to make grinding disks with large holes fit properly.
For grinding tools with threaded inserts, check
that the thread is long enough for the length of
S-Hinweise Winkelschleifer SPK7_GB:_ 19.07.2007 8:42 Uhr Seite 3
the spindle.
Ensure that the tool is securely fastened.Never use cutting-off disks for rough grinding.Take care to ensure that any sparks generated
during use do not cause any danger, e.g. by hitting persons or igniting inflammable substances.
Take care to ensure that the air vents are not
blocked whenever you carry out work involving the generation of dust. Should you have to remove any dust, first disconnect the electric tool from the mains power supply (only use non-metallic objects) and avoid any damage to inner parts.
Use safety goggles and ear-muffs.You should also wear protective clothing and
equipment such as a dust mask, work gloves, apron and helmet.
The grinding tool runs on after the tool is
switched off.
The tool may only be used in the open air with
extension cables which have been certified as suitable for the purpose. The extension cables used must have cross-sections of least 1.5 mm
2
. The plug-and-socket connections must be equipped with earthing-contacts and protection against rain-water.
For safety reasons the angle grinder is not to be
used without the guard and the auxiliary handle attached.
Never use for working on materials which
contain asbestos.
Always use a dust extractor when using the tool
to work (cutting and grinding) on stone. The dust extractor must be certified as suitable for the removal of dust generated from stone.
Always keep these Safety Instructions in a safe place.
