IRIS506/507/517 Fitting and Operating Instructions.
he IRIS5xx Series control unit and remote keyboard is a PTZ controller designed to be used to operate
T the Pan Tilt and Zoom features of IRISʼs range of marine PTZ and Thermal PTZ cameras. The controller sends RS485 serial data to the camera and is preset to transmit data using the Pelco D protocol at a baud rate of 9600bps. The IRIS5xx Series can also control third party PTZ devices but must be configured accordingly. For more information contact Iris Innovations or your Iris dealer.
The IRIS516/517 is shipped with the following components. Ensure theses items are included in the packaging:
1. Controller Unit
2. Joystick Unit
3. Power Cable Tail
4. Data to Camera Cable Tail
5. Joystick Cable (2m CAT5 STP Cable)
6. Fixing Template
Fitting Guidelines:
1. Consider where the joystick is going to be installed and the proximity of the Joystick to the Controller Unit. The Joystick must be installed no further than 2 meters from the Controller Unit.
2. Use the Fixing Template to drill the 4 x 5mm screw clearance holes and to cut the 65mm hole required for the body of the Joystick Unit.
3. Ensure correct orientation of the Joystick Unit and fit into place. It is recomended that a silicone sealant (such as Sikoflex) be used on the underside of the Joystick Unit bezel if mounting externally to prevent ingree of water.
4. Find a suitable position for the Controller Unit (no greater than 2 meters from the Joystick Unit) and fix into place using appropriate fixings. Connect the Controller Unit to the Joystick Unit using the 2 meter CAT5 STP cable (supplied). The controller unit must be located internally away from moisture.
5. Connect the serial data feed to the camera using the cable tail supplied. The camera data cable can be identified by the 3 pin connector. Ensure correct polarity. If, following installation, the camera doesnʼt respond to joystick operation, switch the polarity of the data pair.
6. Connect the power supply to the power cable tail supplied. Ensure correct polarity is observed. Connect +12VDC to the Red core, and GROUND to the Black core. Ensure the power supply to the Control Unit is safely isolated using a suitably rated fuse of preferrably, circuit breaker. The Cntroller Unit is rated at 12VDC ~ 1A.
Operation:
Once correctly installed and powered up, use the joystick to drive the camera by moving in the desired direction. To Zoom IN , twist the Joystick head Clockwise and to Zoom OUT twist anti-clockwise.
IRIS506/507/517 Joystick Operation
Once correctly installed and powered up, use the joystick to drive the camera by moving in the desired direction. To Zoom IN , twist the Joystick head Clockwise and to Zoom OUT twist anti-clockwise.
To access the colour coded extended features of the controller, move the joystick to the appropriate position whilst holding down the function button with the corresponding colour.
Proportional Control:
The joystick controller is geared so that the pan, tilt and zoom speed increases progressively away from the central position. The closer the centre point, the slower the control, the further away, the faster the control.
Note: Zoom Gearing...
In order to enable much greater accuracy when zoomed in, the camera will automatically calculate the degree of zoom and gear the control so that the pan and tilt speed reduces.
Move Joystick in any direction to drive camera.
Proportional Control. Speed increases as the joystick is moved away from the centre.
