The Memory Bank™ USB 2.0 Flash Card Reader is yet another innovativ e Hi-Speed USB 2.0 solution developed by IOGEAR®. The Memory Bank™ offers a complete high speed storage solutions at the fraction of the cost of other external flash card readers.
Setup is fast and easy. Simply plug in the drive and install the software and you’re ready to go. The Memory Bank™ offers a f eature rich interface, complete with the latest in Hi-Speed technology.

Introduction of the Memory Bank’s Underlying Technology
Hi-Speed USB 2.0 is the backbone of our Memory Bank™ Compact Flash Card Reader. USB 2.0 is the next generation of USB connectivity, providing additional bandwidth thus broadening the range of peripherals that may be attached to your computers. USB 2.0 will move data at a b lazing r ate of 480 Mbps (Megabits per sec­ond), and is fully backward compatible with the first generation of USB de vices. With the increase in speed, USB
2.0 will offer increased functionality , allo wing more devices to share the increased bandwidth. With the increase in demand for USB 2.0 products IOGEAR® decided to provide our customers with a total
solution. W e have taken some of the top peripherals on the market and ha ve upgr aded them to the new USB 2.0 standard.
USB is now faster and easier to use than it has e ver been. Moving data at a b lazing speed of 480Mbps (40 times faster than the original USB) now allows for high speed devices to take full advantage of the bandwidth and reliability offered by the ne w technology .

This manual contains information on the installation and capabilities of your ne w Memory Bank™ Flash Card Reader.
In sections of the manual where sequential steps are listed, each action is listed with no indentation. Additional text is included, but indented, to further explain each of these actions. A glossary has been added at the end of the manual so you ma y look up unfamiliar terms.
A few things should be mentioned bef ore explaining the installation procedure: All IOGEAR® Memory Bank™ Flash Card Readers are tested before they are shipped. The connectors on a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 cable designed in such a wa y as to prevent plugging the cab le in upside
down, backwards, or into a diff erent type of connector . At time of print, most computers do not have Hi-Speed USB 2.0 capabilities. To ensure optimum compatibility,
please make sure your computer is USB 2.0 compatible or has had a USB 2.0 upgrade card added to your computer system.

Note: Before you begin, please make sure that the pow er to the device and y our computer has been turned
off.
Step 1. Plug the P ower adapter into the side of the Memory Bank™ in the power port (Bus Power can support most applications, but using the power adapter will assure the best performance). Step 2. Plug the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Cable (Type A Connector) into the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Port (T ype A
Slot) located on the back of your computer in the PCI Card Bays .

Step 3. Plug the power adapter into an av ailable AC outlet in y our ccomputers power strip or in an availab le wall
socket nearby. Note: Take care when inserting the flashcard media in the reader. The module is key ed so it will only fit into the
socket in one direction. If you insert the media and it does not insert into the socket all the way easily, remove and re v erse rotate the position and reinsert the media into the socket.

Before you unplug the Memory Bank™, click on the green arrow on the lower right cor ner of the Window.
A message of [safely Remove…] will appear , click on this message to remove the de vice.

Care & Handling
Care & Handling of your Memory Bank™ flash card reader
Y our IOGEAR® stor age device is a high perf ormance Hi-Speed USB 2.0 flash card reader (Memory Bank). The socket that reads the inf ormation on the media is a fragile piece of technology . Therefore, care m ust be taken not to bump the Memory Bank™ while it is operating. Care must also be taken not to bump the Memory Bank™ excessively when the drive is not in use .
T o insure the maximum reliability of the Memory Bank™ please follo w the guidelines listed below:
- DO NOT mov e or bump the reader while it is operating.
- DO NOT open the reader case f or it will V OID y our WARRANTY.
- Keep all cables out of isles and off desktops where they can be hook ed and pulled.
- Keep the reader firmly secured in the shipping container when shipping the reader.
- Keep the environment around the reader clean and free of e xcessive dust and chemicals.
- Use a damp cloth to clean the reader. NEVER put cleansers directly on the reader case.
- Use surge protectors with the reader.
- DO NOT e xpose the Memory Bank™ to extreme temperatures.
- DO NOT e xpose the Memory Bank™ to direct sun light for extended periods of time.
- DO NOT get the Memory Bank™ wet.
- DO NOT place the Memory Bank™ in an area with an excessive amount of dirt.

Trouble Shooting
Basic Troubleshooting Memory Bank™
- Make sure the card reader is powered up bef ore you start your computer .
- Make your new IOGEAR® Memory Bank™ is the only de vice hooked into the USB 2.0 port.
- Do not use a hub or repeater in connecting your card reader to the computer .
- Check all the cable connections.
- Make sure you hav e Critical Updates from the Microsoft® Website at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com; then, click on “Product Updates”, select the latest Critical Update package f or your Windo ws® OS, and then click “Download”.
Other Issues
At the very least, make sure your computer has all av ailable updates pro vided by the manuf acture of both your hardware and software. Updates can be f ound at http://www.versiontracker.com or http://www.download.com. Upgrade your CPU firmware to the latest revision. Please read all text on the download pages to determine which firmware update is appropriate for your computer .

Glossary Desktop - The background area on the computers monitor screen. This area also includes the menu bar.
Document windows are not part of the desktop; rather the y sit on the desktop. Icon - Symbols used to represent a particular object. For example a disk has an icon on the desktop which
represents the disk. When you doub le click the disk icon it tells finder to display inf ormation related to that disk.
Mount - Makes the computer aware of a disk. Power Adapter P ort - The plug on the Memory Bank™ into which the power-cord is plugged into. Service Support - The team of IOGEAR emplo yees dedicated to help y ou resolve your technical issues . Spin down - The act of the disk inside the driv e or cartridge ceasing its rotation. Spin up - The act of the disk inside the driv e getting up to the proper rotations per minute. The disk inside the
drive must spin at the proper speed for the disk to w ork.
