1 teCHniCaL DesCriptiOn

The SpiroCom has three functions integrated in one wireless mask mounted unit:

1. Team talk

2. Long distance radio activation

3. Voice Projection Unit (VPU)

1.1 TEAm TALk

The Team talk is a voice activated, full duplex, short range voice communication
within a team of fire fighters. All voice communication from any team member is sent
to all members in one team, without the need to push any button.

The range is approximately 100 meters in free line of sight (outdoors), indoor range
will depend heavily on the building structure.

One team is using one specific channel, “Group Number”, and this communication is
not transmitted externally but only shared by the specific team members. The number
of users in one team is unlimited but a maximum of four team members can speak
simultaneously.

1.2 LONG DISTANCE RADIO ACTIVATION

To obtain external radio communication only one long distance radio is needed
within the team [Fig. 1]. It is possible for any of the SpiroCom units to access the long
distance radio, unless the radio already is being used. To access the long distance
radio the Push to Talk (PTT) button is pushed on the SpiroCom unit.

This function requires a SpiroCom Radio Adaptor connected to the long distance
radio. This adaptor is connected to the long distance radio [Fig 3] and transmitting
wireless to the mask mounted unit.

1.3 VOICE PROjECTION uNIT (VPu) [FIG. 2, C]

The VPU amplifies the sound from the user and projects it to the surroundings using an
external speaker. The voice of the wearer is projected to victims and rescue personnel
not wearing a SpiroCom unit.

1.4 COmPONENTS OF ThE SPIROCOm

MiCrOpHOne [Fig 2, g]

The microphone is placed inside the external speech diaphragm. The microphone
registers speech from the user for all functions of the SpiroCom unit. The breathing
noise of the wearer is removed as far as possible using filtering technology.

It is advisable to speak clearly and firmly for good voice transmission.

ear speaker [Fig 2, a]

The ear speaker projects the sound to the user. The speaker can be adjusted to make
it fit well with all face types. It can be bent up or down and angled towards or away
from the mask.

ptt ButtOn [Fig 2, H]

A large easy to use button activates the long distance radio communication. It is
placed to be easy to find and possible to activate also with shoulder or against a
wall.

DispLay [Fig 2, F]

The external display shows the selected group number when the unit is switched on.

LeD inDiCatOr [ Fig 2, B ]

A red LED visible for the wearer is lit when the PTT is pressed and the long distance
radio communication is active.

The indicator is flashing to indicate two hours remaining battery time or activated
mute function.

aDjustMent ButtOn [Fig 2, e]

This button is used to change volume and group number.

MODe ButtOn [Fig 2, D]

This button is used as on/off switch and to access group change mode (if configured).

2 using tHe spirOCOM

2.1 STARTING ThE uNIT

Press and release the Mode button until the group number is indicated through the
ear speaker and starts to flash in the display.

When the units has connected to the available network of SpiroCom units,
“connected” is indicated through the ear speaker and the group number stops to flash
in the display. Until then no transmission is made.
Depending on the current radio environment the start up time can differ at different
occasions.

If the device does not start or if the display indicates “LO” replace batteries, see
section 5.

2.2 SETTING ThE VOLumE

The unit is started with last used volume setting. The volume can not be set until the
unit has connected.

To adjust the volume move the adjustment button up or down. The volume is changed
one step for each press. The sound level is indicated with beeps through the ear
phone, at the lowest and highest level a double beep is indicated.

2.3 SETTING ThE GROuP NumbER

The unit is started with the last used group number. To change the group number
move the adjustment button up or down before the unit has connected. The group
number is changed one step for each press. There are 16 group numbers available,
each intended for different fire fighter teams.

The unit can be configured with two alternatives:

1. The group number can not be change during use, but can only be changed by
switching off and then restarting the unit. The Mode button works as on and off
button only.

2. The group number can be changed during use. When the unit has connceted
press the Mode button. The current group number is indicated through the ear
phone. To change group number move the adjustment button up or down. After 3
seconds the unit switches back to volume mode.

2.4 LONG DISTANCE RADIO ACTIVATION (PuSh TO TALk)

To activate the long distance radio transmission lift and hold the PTT button.
To disable the long distance radio transmission release the PTT button.
When the long distance radio transmission is activated the LED indicator is lit red and

a beep sound is indicated through the ear phone.

2.5 muTE FuNCTION

To mute the microphone of the SpiroCom unit push down the adjustment button until
the red LED indicator is flashing.

The Voice Projection Unit (VPU) is disabled and no speech from the unit is transmitted
to other SpiroCom units. Speech from other connected SpiroCom units will still be
transmitted through the ear phone.

To switch off mute push the volume adjustment button up, the previous sound level is
set when the button is released.
When the PTT button is pressed the mute function is automatically switched off. When
the PTT button is released the mute function is activated again.

2.6 LOw bATTERY INDICATION

At the low battery warning level the LED indicator starts to flash red. At this level there
is approximately 2 hour of use time remaining.

2.7 SwITChING ThE uNIT OFF

Press and hold the Mode button until the LCD display shows “- -” and LED indicator is
lit, approxiamtely 5 seconds, and then release the button. The current group number is
indicated through the ear phone before the unit switches off.

After 15 minutes without detecting sound the unit switches off automatically.

3 attaCHing anD reMOVing

3.1 ATTAChING ThE uNIT TO VISOR FRAmES

While pressing the two visor frames together unscrew the screw holding the visor
frames together at the right hand side (as worn). Install the supplied bracket [Fig 4]
using the longer screw also supplied with the SpiroCom mask unit. Place the bracket
on the right hand side (as worn) of the face mask with the opening pointing away
from the mask. Do not tighten the screw fully.

Two hooks on the unit [Fig. 5, A] are used to position it correctly against the visor
frames. Check that the hand screw is unscrewed from the attachment point [Fig 5, B].

Fit the two hooks over the visor frames [Fig. 6] and position the attachment point with
the hand screw into the bracket [Fig. 7]. Tighten the hand screw until stop.

Tighten the screw holding the visor frames moderatley.
Check that the mask unit is securly attached to the visor frames.

3.2 ATTAChING ThE mICROPhONE - S-FACE mASk

Fit the microphone cable between the lower visor frame and front piece of the face
mask to the opposite side of the speech diaphragm [Fig. 8].

Unscrew the hand screw of the speech diaphragm and slide it upwards [Fig. 8].
Position the microphone cable into the cable slot [Fig. 9, A] and the hook under the
visor frame [Fig. 10, A].

Slide the speech diaphragm down and fasten the hand screw. In the correct position
the lip of the speech diaphragm covers the serial number of the breathing valve [Fig.
11].

3.3 ATTAChING ThE mICROPhONE - SPIROmATIC mASk

Remove the external speech cone by unscrewing the two hand screws. Place the
microphone cable to the opposite side [Fig. 12] with the hook under the visor frame
[Fig. 12, A].

Install the speech cone and tighten the two hand screws moderately [Fig. 13]. Make
sure that the microphone cable is fitted correctly in the hole of the speech cone [Fig.
14].

3.4 REmOVING ThE mASk uNIT

s-FaCe Mask:

Unscrew the hand screw on the speech diaphragm and slide it upwards. Remove the
microphone and cable.

spirOMatiC Mask :

Remove the speech cone by unscrewing the two hand screws.

s-FaCe Mask anD spirOMatiC Mask:

Loosen the hand screw in the attachment bracket and remove the unit.

4 CLeaning anD DisinFeCtiOn

The SpiroCom mask unit can be left on the mask when cleaning the mask manually
according the user manual for the face mask. Let the unit dry in upright position in
order to let water drain from the ear speaker.

5 Battery repLaCeMent

Always use the specified AAA alkaline batteries Duracell MN2400 and Energizer
E92. Interspiro assumes no liability for mechanical, electrical or any other type of
battery failure.

Do not mix battery manufacturers or old with new batteries.
Cold conditions during storage and use will decrease battery time.

attenti On! BATTERIES MUST ONLY BE CHANGED IN AN AREA KNOWN TO BE NON-HAZARDOUS.

Unscrew the battery cover screw using a screwdriver, open the battery cover and
remove batteries [Fig. 15].

Insert new batteries orientated according [Fig. 16]. The orientation is marked on the
backside of the unit. Close the cover and tighten the screw moderately.

1 teknisk BeskriVning

SpiroCom har tre funktioner integrerade i en enda maskmonterad och trådlös enhet:

1. Gruppradio

2. Aktivering av långdistansradio (PTT)

3. Röstförstärkare (VPU)

1.1 GRuPPkOmmuNIkATION

Gruppkommunikationen är en röstaktiverad, full-duplex, kortdistansradio för en
grupp av brandmän. All röstkommunikation från alla gruppmedlemmar sänds till
medlemmarna i gruppen, utan att man behöver trycka på någon knapp.

Räckvidden i fri sikt utomhus är cirka 100 meter, räckvidden inomhus påverkas
kraftigt av byggnadsstrukturen.

En grupp använder en specifik kanal, “gruppnummer”, och kommunikationen sänds
inte till utsidan utan hörs bara av medlemmarna i den specifika gruppen. Antalet
medlemmar i en grupp är obegränsat men maximalt fyra personer kan prata
samtidigt.

1.2 AkTIVERING AV LåNGDISTANSRADIO (PTT)

För att få tillgång till extern radiokommunikation behövs endast en enda radio i
gruppen [Fig 1]. Alla SpiroCom-enheter kan få tillgång till långdistansradion om den
inte redan används. För att aktivera långdistansradion trycker man på PTT-knappen
på maskenheten.

Den här funktionen kräver att en SpiroCom-adpter för långdistansradio ansluts till
radioapparaten. Adaptern ansluts till långdistansaradion [Fig. 3] och sänder trådlöst
till enheten som sitter på masken.

1.3 RöSTFöRSTäRkARE (VPu) [FIG. 2, C]

Röstförstärkaren förstärker ljudet från användaren och projicerar det till omgivningen
via en extern högtalare. Rösten från användaren projiceras på så sätt till nödställda
och räddningspersonal som inte har en SpiroCom-enhet.

1.4 DELAR På SPIROCOm

MikrOFOn [Fig 2, g]

Mikrofonen är placerad innanför talkonan. Den registrerar talet från användaren och
använder det till SpiroComs alla funktioner. Andningsljud från användaren elimineras
så långt som möjligt med filtertekniker.

Det rekommenderas att tala klart och tydligt för en god ljudöverföring.

HÖgtaLa re [Fig 2, a]

Högtalaren projicerar ljudet till användaren. Den kan justeras så den passar väl till
alla ansiktstyper. Den kan böjas upp och ner samt vinklas mot eller ifrån masken.

ptt-knapp [Fig 2, H]

En stor och enkelt aktiverad knapp öppnar upp kommunikationen med
långdistansradion. Den är placerad så att den är enkel att hitta och möjlig att
aktivera med axeln eller mot en vägg.

DispLay [Fig 2, F]

Den externa displayen visar valt gruppnummer när enheten är påslagen.

LeD-inDikatOr [ Fig 2, B ]

En röd LED som är synlig för användaren tänds när enhetens PTT-knappen används
och långdistansradiokommunikationen aktiverad.
Indikatorn blinkar när det återstår två timmars batteritid eller om “mute”-funktionen är
aktiverad.

VOLyM knapp [F ig 2, e]

Den här knappen används för att ändra volymen och ställa om gruppnummer.

instäLLningsknapp [Fig 2, D]

Den här knappen används för sätta på och stänga av enheten och för att aktivera
läget att byta gruppnummer (om enheten har den funktionen aktiverad).

2 anVänDa spirOCOM

2.1 STARTA ENhETEN

Tryck och släpp inställningsknappen tills gruppnumret indikeras i högtalaren och
börjar blinka i displayen.

När enheten har kopplat upp sig med tillgängliga SpiroCom-enheter, indikeras
“connected” i högtalaren och gruppnumret i displayen slutar blinka. Innan detta sker
kan ingen kommunikation sändas i systemet.
Beroende på aktuell radiomiljö kan starttiden variera från en gång till en annan.

Om enheten inte startar eller om displayen visar “LO” byt batterier, se avsnitt 5.

2.2 juSTERA VOLYmEN

Enheten startas med senast använd volyminställning. Volymen kan inte ändras förrän
enheten kopplats upp.

För att justera volymen tryck volymknappen uppåt eller nedåt. Volymen ändras ett steg
för varje tryck. Volymnivån indikeras med pip i högtalaren, den högsta och lägsta
volymnivån indikeras med ett dubbelpip.

2.3 STäLLA GRuPPNummER

Enheten startar med det senaste använda gruppnumret. För att ändra gruppnummer
tryck volymknappen uppåt eller nedåt. Gruppnumret ändras ett steg i taget för varje
knapptryckning. Det finns 16 olika gruppnummer avsedda för olika grupper av
brandmän.

Enheten kan vara inställd på två sätt:

1. Gruppnumret kan inte ändras under användning utan endast genom att stänga av
och starata om enheten. Inställningsknappen fungerar då endast för att starta och
stänga av enehten.

2. Gruppnumret kan ändras under användning. När enheten har kopplat upp sig
tryck på inställningsknappen. Nuvarande gruppnummer indikeras i högtalaren.
För att byta gruppnummer tryck volymkontrollen upp eller ner. Efter tre sekunder
byter enehten tillbaka till läget fär att ändra volym.

2.4 AkTIVERING AV LåNGDISTANSRADIO (PTT)

För att aktivera långdistansradion lyft och håll PTT-knappen.
För att avaktivera långdistansradion släpp PTT-knappen.
När långdistansradion är aktiverad tänds LED-indikatorn och ett pip indikeras i

högtalaren.

2.5 muTE-FuNkTION

För att stänga av mikrofonen tryck och håll ner volymkontrollen tills den röda LED­indikatorn börjar blinka.

Röstförstärkaren (VPU) stängs av och inget tal sänds till andra SpiroCom-enheter. Tal
från andra anslutna SpiroCom-enheter kommer dock att höras i högtalaren.

För att stänga av mute-funktionen tryck volymkontrollen uppåt, föregående volym ställs
in när knappen släpps.
Medan PTT-knappen är aktiverad stängs mute-funktionen av automatiskt. När PTT­knappen släpps aktiveras mute-funktionen igen.

2.6 INDIkERING AV LåG bATTERISPäNNING

Vid nivån för låg batterispäning börjar LED-indikatorn blinka rött. Vid den här nivån
återstår cirka 2 timmars driftstid.

2.7 STäNGA AV ENhETEN

Tryck in och håll inställningsknappen tills displayen visar “--” och LED-indikatorn tänds,
cirka 5 sekunder, släpp sedan knappen. Inställt gruppnummer indikeras i högtalaren
innan enheten stängs av.

Efter 15 minuter utan att något tal har registreras stängs enheten av automatiskt.

3 MOntering OCH DeMOntering

3.1 mONTERING AV ENhETEN På RAmhALVOR

Tryck samman ramhalvorna och skruva samtidigt bort skruven som håller ihop
ramhalvorna på höger sida (som masken bärs). Montera den medleverarade
fästplåten [Fig. 4] med den längre skruven, som också levereras med SpiroCom­enheten. Placera fästplåten på höger sida (som masken bärs) med öppningen riktad
bort från masken. Dra inte åt skruven helt.

Två hakar på enheten [Fig. 5, A] används för att positionera enheten korrekt mot
ramhalvorna. Kontrollera att handskruven är utskruvad från fästpunkten [Fig 5, B].

Passa in the två hakarna mot ramhalvorna [Fig. 6] och positionera fästpunkten med
handskruven i fästplåten [Fig. 7]. Skruva in handskruven mot stopp.

Dra åt skriven som håller ihop ramhalvorna måttligt.
Kontrollera att enheten är ordentligt fastsatt på ramhalvorna.

3.2 mONTERING AV mIkROFON - S-mASk

Passa in mikrofonsladden mellan den lägre ramhalvan och anslutningen på masken
över till motsatt sida av talkonan [Fig. 8].

Skruva ut handskruven på talkonan och för den uppåt [Fig. 8]. Placera
mikrofonsladden i sladdgenomföringen [Fig. 9, A] och haken under ramhalvan [Fig.
10, A].

För talkonan nedåt och skruva in handskruven. I korrekt position täcker läppen på
talkonan andningsventilens serienumer [Fig. 11].

3.3 mONTERING AV mIkROFON - SPIROmATIC-mASk

Ta bort den yttre talkonan genom att skruva ut de två handskruvarna. Placera
mikrofonsladden över till motsatt sida [Fig. 12] med haken under ramhalvan [Fig. 12,
A].

Montera talkonan och dra åt de två handskruvarna måttligt [Fig. 13]. Se till att
mikrofonsladden är korrekt placerad i sladdgenomföringen i talkonan [Fig. 14].

3.4 DEmONTERA mASkENhETEN

s-Mask:

Skruva ut handskruven på talkonan och för den uppåt. Ta bort mikrofonsladden.

spirOMatiC-Mask :

Ta bort talkonan genom att skruva ut de två handskruvarna.

s-Mask OCH spirOMatiC-M ask:

Lossa handskruven vid fästpunkten och ta bort enheten.

4 rengÖring OCH DesinFiCering

SpiroCom-enheten kan vara kvar på masken när den tvättas manuellt enligt
instruktionerna för masken. Låt enheten torka i upprätt läge så att vatten kan dräneras
från högtalaren.

5 BatteriByte

Använd endast de specificerade alkaliska batterierna Duracell MN2400 eller
Energizer E92 av AAA-typ. Interspiro tar inget ansvar för mekaniska, elektroniska eller
några andra typer av fel på batterierna.

Blanda inte olika batterifabrikat eller gamla och nya batterier.
Låg temperatur vid lagring eller under användning minskar batteritiden.

OBs! BATTERIER FÅR ENDAST BYTAS I EN OMGIVNING SOM MAN VET ÄR SÄKER.

Lossa skruven i batterilocket med en skruvmejsel och öppna batterilocket och ta ut
batterierna [Fig. 15].

Sätt in nya batterier vända enligt [Fig. 16]. På baksidan av enheten finns märkning
som visar hur batterierna ska vändas. Stäng batterilocket och dra åt skruven måttligt.
