Proximity Readers
Overview
The GE Model 97x Proximity Perfect® readers
provide the convenience of proximity technology
in a variety of styles. All are economical and easy
to install, and provide a full range of
field-selectable operation modes. All models
include a rugged, weather-resistant ABS plastic
housing.
Model 97X readers mount directly on a wall or to
a standard USA dual-width electrical box. Models
970 and 972 are designed for conventional wall
installation. Metal wall installation requires the
metal backplate (supplied with Models 971 and
973). Back-to-back reader installation requires
use of Models 971 and 973 with an optional
isolation plate. This plate prevents a badge from
being read by a reader mounted on the opposite
side of a door.
Models 972 and 973 include a keypad for use
when a Personal Identification Number (PIN)
entry is required for added security.
Each reader includes a new mechanical tamper
switch that reports if the reader is completely
removed from the wall, in addition to detecting
when the reader has been separated from its
back plate.

The Model 97X readers provide
supervised operation for continuous
checking of reader, door contact, exit
button and communication line
status. The Micro/PX-2000,
Micro/PXN-2000 and Micro/5 2RP,
2SRP and 8RP reader processor
boards are fully compatible.
The readers provide a maximum
badge read distance or up to 25 cm.
Read range is a function of reader
power and card type. Read range is
also influenced by site conditions,
wire gauge and cable distance. DIP
switches allow the optimum reader
power setting to be selected for site
conditions.
The Model 97X readers have four
switch-selectable modes of
operation; industry-standard
Wiegand, standard F/2F, Supervised
F/2F and Silent Supervised F/2F (for
sites where no audible or visual
indication of reader communication
loss is required). Both supervised
modes are compatible with Micro/2,
Micro/4, MicroProx® , Micro/5,
Micro/PX-2000 and Micro/PXN-2000
microcontrollers.
