Gasoline, as well as other flammable materials and
WARNING
Flammable Materials
liquids (adhesives, solvents, etc.), and the vapors they produce, are extremely dangerous. DO NOT handle, use or store gasoline or other flammable or combustible materials anywhere near a water heater. Read and follow the warning label pictured below and other labels on the water heater, as well as the warnings printed in this manual. Failure to do so can result in property damage, bodily injury, or death.
DANGER
Venting
Danger
Vapors from flammable liquids will explode and catch fire causing death or severe burns. Do not use or store flammable products near this heater.
See Operation Manual for additional
Failure to properly vent the water heater to the outdoors as outlined in the Venting Section of this manual (page
12) can result in unsafe operation of the water heater. To avoid the risk of fire, explosion, or asphyxiation from carbon monoxide, never operate this water heater unless it is properly vented and has an adequate air supply for proper operation. Inspect the vent system for proper installation at initial start-up; and at least annually thereafter. Refer to Maintenance section of this manual for more information regarding vent system inspections
information.

DANGER
Liquid Propane
General Safety Precautions
LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM MODELS - Propane, or LP gas, must be used with great caution.
• It is heavier than air and will collect first in lower areas making it hard to detect at nose level.
• Check for LP leaks before lighting the heater. Use a soapy solution to check all gas fittings and connections. Bubbling at a connection indicates a leak that must be corrected. When smelling to detect an LP leak, be sure to sniff near the floor too. Gas detectors are recommended in LP applications and their installation should be in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and/or local laws, rules, regulations or customs.
• It is best to use more than one method to detect leaks in LP applications.
WARNING
Gas Odor
IF LP GAS IS PRESENT OR SUSPECTED:
• DO NOT attempt to find the cause yourself;
• DO NOT try to light any appliance;
• DO NOT touch any electrical switch;
• DO NOT use any phone in your building.
• Leave the house immediately and make sure your family and pets leave also.
• Leave the doors open for ventilation and contact the gas supplier, a qualified service agency or the fire department.
• Keep the area clear until the service call has been made, the leak is corrected, and a qualified agency has determined the area to be safe.
Both LP and natural gas have an odorant added to help detection. Some people may not be able to smell or recognize this odorant. If unsure or unfamiliar about the smell associated with LP or natural gas, ask the gas supplier. Other conditions, such as "Odorant Fade", which causes the odorant to "fade", or diminish in intensity can also hide or camouflage a gas leak.

WARNING
Fuel Type
WARNING
General Safety Precautions
Water heaters utilizing Liquefied Petroleum gas (LP) are different from natural gas models. A natural gas heater will not function safely on LP gas and vice versa. To avoid possible equipment damage, personal injury or fire: DO NOT connect this water heater to a fuel type not in accordance with unit data plate. Use propane for propane units; natural gas for natural gas units. These units are not certified for any other type fuel.
Do not install LP appliances below-grade (for example, in a basement) if such installation is prohibited by federal, state and/or local laws, rules, regulations or customs.
Location
DANGER
Water Temperature
If installation in a garage is the only alternative, mount the heater so that the open flame of the pilot and main burner are no less than 18 inches above the floor. Raising the heater will reduce but not eliminate the possibility of vapors from any improperly-stored or accidentally-spilled flammable liquids.
WATER TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT - Consider safety and energy conservation when selecting the heater's output water temperature. Water temperatures above 125°F. can cause severe burns or death from scalding. Read and follow the warnings outlined on the label pictured below. NOTE: Households with small children, disabled, or elderly persons may require a 120°F. or lower output temperature to prevent contact with "HOT" water. Test the water temperature by turning on a hot water faucet, placing a thermometer in the hot water stream, and reading the thermometer.
Water temperature over 125oF can instantly cause severe burns or death from scalding. Risk is highest for children and disabled or elderly people.
See Operation Manual for help on setting safe water temperature.

Adjust the outlet water temperature of the heater by setting the temperature dial on front of the Infinion. The illustration below shows the approximate water temperature for each position of the temperature dial. There is a Hot Water SCALD Potential if the temperature knob is set too high. Mixing valves for reducing point of use water temperature by mixing hot and cold water in branch water lines are available. Contact a licensed plumber, the local plumbing authority, or Akwakai for further information.

General Installation Guidelines
Introduction
Read and Review this entire Manual with special emphasis on the Venting Section (Page 12) and Operation Section (Pages 17 - 19) prior to any installation work.
Follow these instructions when you install your heater. In the United States: The installation must conform with local codes or, in the absence of local codes, the National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54. In Canada: The Installation should conform with CGA B149.(1,2) INSTALLATION CODES and /or local installation codes.
Carefully plan where you install the heater. Correct combustion air supply and flue pipe installation are very important. If not installed correctly, fatal accidents can be caused by lack of air, carbon monoxide poisoning or fire.
Install the heater in a location with enough ventilation. The National Fire Codes prohibit water heater installation in bathrooms, bedrooms or any occupied rooms normally kept closed. See the section below on locating the heater.
You must vent your heater. See section on Vent Pipe Connections, Page 12.
Disconnect the heater from the gas supply piping system during any pressure testing at pressures in excess of ½ Psig (3.5 kPa).
Isolate the heater from the gas supply piping system by closing its individual manual shutoff valve during any pressure testing of the gas supply piping system at test pressures equal to or less than ½ Psig (3.5kPa). Test the appliance and its gas connection before operating the heater.
Keep water heater area clear and free from combustibles and flammable liquids. Do not locate the heater over any material that might burn.
Correct gas pressure is critical for the optimum operation of this heater.
Size gas piping to provide the required pressure at the maximum output of the heater, while all the other gas appliances are in operation. Check with your local gas supplier, and see the section on connecting the gas supply (page 13 ).
If overheating occurs or the gas supply fails to shut off, turn off the gas supply at the manual gas shut off valve on the gas line.
Do not use this appliance if any part has been underwater. Immediately call a qualified service technician to inspect the appliance and to replace any part of the control system that has been underwater.
