The BHD-S eries Ballhe ads feature a Unive rsal
Arca -Swiss styl e Quick Rele ase Plate syst em. It

Camer a or Equipment from the He ad. It’s importa nt

Quick Rele ase Lock (FIGUR E 1)
The Quick Re lease Lock offe rs two levels of se curity
for your gea r. To remove the Quick Rele ase Plate,
turn the Qu ick Release Locki ng Knob counterclock wise. A partia l opening of th e clamp ing
mechan ism allows the Quick Re lease Plate to slid e
on the Mounti ng Platform fo r proper b alance and
positi oning. Two Stop Screw s (remov able) on the
bottom of th e Quick Rele ase Plate prov ide this first
level of securit y. An addit ional pull and counterclock wise turn of the Quic k Release L ocking Knob
opens the cl amp fully so that the Qui ck Release
Plate ca n be tilted out to be r emoved. Revers e the
proce ss and tighten the Quick Rel ease Locking Kn ob
to secure th e Quick Rele ase Plate.
Ballhe ad Controls (FI GURE 2)
A large Hea d Locking Knob loc ks the Ballhead in
place. On ce the Knob is turned co unter-clock wise
and loosened, the Ba llhead can move fr eely allowing
the Mounti ng Platform to be po sitioned any where
within a 0 –90° vertic al orientation . This mov ement is
expand ed by the use of the Pan Locki ng Knob which
adds a 360 ° Pannin g range . The Pan con trol is fully
indepe ndent and position ing can be adjusted ea sily
and accur ately by using the Gra duated Panning
Scale an d Pointer on th e Base of the Ba llhead.
A unique feature of the BHL is the ab ility to
incorp orate and set a fixed lev el of Drag in the Ball
moveme nt using the Lock Limit er. For optimum
result s attach a camer a of typic al weight capaci ty
to the head and w hile holding, just tighten the Hea d
Lockin g Knob clockw ise until there is enoug h
tension on th e ball so tha t the camer a doesn't slip on
it's own bu t that you can ma ke comfor table camer a
moveme nts. Then rotate the inner Lock Li miter
clock wise in order to fix this po sition as the "off"
setting of the Head Loc king Knob. You will now find
the Lock ha s a new limited range of mov ement with
just enou gh tension at one end so you sho uldn't
have to hold th e camer a/lens in order fo r it to stay
in positi on, but can fully lock th e head wit h a quick
clock wise turn. Slot s in the Lock Limiter make it
possib le to use a coin rather than yo ur fingers if it's
neces sary to loosen th e Lock Limi ter.
FOR OPT IMUM RESULTS: Adju st the Drag under the
weight ca pacity, temper ature and conditi ons under
which the B allhead will be used.
NOTE: Do no t over tighten any Locki ng Knobs as this
could dam age the Ballhead lo cking mechanis m.
