Installation and connection
The appliance must be installed
and connected by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with local and national electrical and plumbing safety regulations. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damage caused by incorrect installation or connection.
The electrical safety of this
appliance can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between the appliance and an effective earthing system which complies with local and national safety regulations. It is most important that this basic safety requirement is tested regularly, and if there is any doubt, the electrical wiring in the home should be inspected by a qualified electrician. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for the consequences of an inadequate earthing system (e.g. electric shock).
Do not connect the appliance to
the mains electricity supply by an extension lead. Extension leads do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance (e.g. danger of overheating).
This equipment may only be used
in mobile installations such as ships, caravans, aircraft etc. if a risk assessment of the installation has been carried out by a suitably qualified engineer.

Correct usage
To avoid the risk of accidents and
damage to the appliance, you should read these operating instructions carefully before using it for the first time. They contain important notes on the installation, safety, operation and care of the appliance.
For safety reasons the appliance
must only be used after it has been built in. This is necessary to ensure that all electrical components are shielded.
This appliance is intended for
domestic use only and is not to be used for commercial purposes.
This appliance must only be used
as described in these instructions. Any other usage is at the owner's risk and could be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damage caused by incorrect or improper use of the appliance.
Do not use the appliance to heat
up the room. Due to the high temperatures radiated, objects near the appliance could catch fire. The life of the appliance could also be reduced.
After use with steam, leave the
door open until all the moisture in the cooking compartment has dissipated and the interior is dry.
Make sure that the stopcock is
open before using the appliance. After switching off the appliance remember to close the stopcock to avoid any risk of water damage.
Do not use the appliance without
the filter in the bottom of the oven cavity in place; otherwise coarse soiling could get into the drainage system and pump, causing a blockage.
Descaling must only be carried out
on a cold appliance; otherwise harmful vapours can form. See "Descaling".
If the appliance is not going to be
used for a longer period of time, e.g. whilst on holiday, it should be thoroughly cleaned beforehand to prevent the build up of odours etc. Proceed as described under "Cleaning and heating up for the first time". Leave the door open afterwards.

Safety with children
The appliance must be installed at
such a height that small children cannot reach the appliance door, which gets hot during use.
Use the safety lock to prevent
children operating the appliance or altering the settings.
The appliance is only intended for
use by adults who have read these operating instructions. Keep children well away. They will not understand the potential danger of touching the appliance. It is therefore important to supervise children at all times.
This appliance is not a toy. To avoid
the risk of injury, do not allow children to play with the appliance or its controls. Supervise its use by the elderly or infirm.
The appliance gets hot when in
use and remains hot for quite a while after being switched off. To safeguard against burning, keep children well away from the appliance until it has cooled down.
Warning: Take care in the area around the hinges. Danger of
injury. Keep children well away.
Do not allow children to lean against the open oven door, nor to
sit on it or swing on it.
Packaging (e.g. cling film,
polystyrene) and plastic wrappings must be kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation. Dispose of all packaging safely as soon as possible.

Protecting the appliance from damage
Do not store anything combustible
in the oven. This could be a fire hazard if the appliance is switched on by mistake.
When heating up or cooking larger
items of deep frozen food such as pizza, place them directly on the rack. Do not use the baking tray, or grill pan / oven tray as these can distort with the temperature fluctuations.
Do not use the appliance to heat
up food in sealed jars and tins. Pressure will build up inside them and they can explode causing damage to the appliance, as well as the risk of injury and scalding.
Do not store cooked food in the
oven. The moisture in the food can lead to corrosion in the appliance.
Do not use metallic containers or
utensils in the oven which are likely to rust. This can cause corrosion.
Do not use a steam cleaner to
clean this appliance. The steam could reach electrical components and cause a short circuit. Pressurised steam could also cause permanent damage to the surface and to other components, for which the manufacturer cannot accept liability.
Do not place heavy objects on the
open door. The door can support a maximum weight of 10 kg.

Protection from burning
The appliance, especially the
inside of the door and the outside of the door at the top, becomes very hot during use and remains hot for some time after switching off.
To avoid burning yourself, use oven
gloves. However, do not let oven gloves get damp or wet, as this causes heat to transfer through the material more quickly with the risk of scalding or burning yourself. Do not touch hot heater elements.
Do not touch hot steam. Danger of
scalding.
Never leave the appliance
unattended when cooking with oil or fat. Oveheated oil can catch fire.
If, despite this, oil or fat does catch
fire, do not attempt to put out the flames with water. Use a suitable fire blanket or fire extinguisher.
Appliance faults
In the event of damage or a defect, switch off the appliance immedi
­ately. Close the stopcock and disconnect from the mains electricity supply. It should not be used again until it has been repaired. Contact the Ser
­vice Department. Do not reconnect the appliance to the mains electricity supply until after it has been repaired.
Repairs must only be carried out
by a suitably qualified and trained person in accordance with local and national safety regulations. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be very dangerous and could damage the appliance. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for unauthorised work. Never open the housing of the appliance.
While the appliance is under
guarantee, repairs should only be undertaken by a service technician authorised by the manufacturer. Otherwise the guarantee is invalidated.

Further safety notes
When using an electric socket near
the oven, care should be taken that the cable of the appliance cannot get trapped by the oven door. The insulation on the cable could become damaged, giving rise to an electric shock hazard.
Always ensure that food is
sufficiently cooked or reheated. Many factors will affect the overall cooking time, including the size and amount of food and its temperature. Some foods, e.g. poultry may contain micro-organisms which are only destroyed by thorough cooking at a sufficiently high temperature for long enough. If in doubt, select a longer cooking or reheating time.
If the appliance door is only
opened a little way it will close again automatically. When placing items into or removing them from the oven, make sure that the door has been opened fully and that it is stable. Otherwise there is danger of injury.
Do not use plastic containers. These melt at high temperatures
Fire hazard.
In countries where there are areas
which may be subject to infestation by cockroaches or other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the appliance and its surroundings in a clean condition at all times. Any damage caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered by the guarantee.

Disposal of the packing material
The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and can normally be recycled.
Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags etc. are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation.
Rather than just throwing these materials away, please ensure that they are recycled.
Disposal of your old appliance
Old appliances contain materials which can be reclaimed or recycled. Please contact your dealer, your local waste collection centre or scrap merchant about available recycling schemes.
Ensure that the appliance presents no danger to children while being stored for disposal.
Before discarding an old appliance, switch off and disconnect it from the power supply. Cut off and render any plug useless. Cut off the cable directly behind the appliance to prevent misuse. This should be done by a competent person.

General notes
Before the appliance can be used you must either set the time of day (see "Setting the time of day") or press the middle of the "timer" button briefly once.
Do not be concerned if your appliance makes some unusual noises. They occur when the steam generating unit is being filled or emptied out and when pumping is taking place.
Please stick the extra data plate for the appliance supplied with this documentation in the space provided in the "After Sales service" section of this booklet.

Setting the time of day initially
Before using the appliance for the first time or after a power cut you must set the time of day before the appliance can be used.
A time of 12.00 will flash in the timer display.
Proceed as follows:
^
Whilst 12 00 is flashing in the timer display, enter the time of day by pressing the + or - buttons underneath the display. Use + to increase and - to decrease the time.
Storing the time of day in memory:
The time of day is stored in memory after a few seconds or if the middle of the timer button is pressed briefly.
The time will stop flashing in the timer display.
If you wish to alter a time of day which has already been entered then proceed as described in section "Timer" "Setting and altering the time of day".

Opening and closing the door
To open the door:
^
Holding the door handle in the middle, press in the button underneath it (see black arrow) to release the door lock.
^
Keeping this button pressed in push the door handle upwards and open the door.
To close the door:
^
Close the appliance door and push the door handle downwards until you hear it click into position. The door is now locked.
If the functions Steam 3, Steam with pressure 4, Roasting 5 and Steam pressure roasting 6 have been used, steam will have built up inside the appliance. This steam will need to be depressurised before the door can be opened. This is described in "Interrupting a programme".
When using Steam pressure roasting 6 and Steam baking 8 do not open the door during operation unless the recipe specifically tells you to do so, otherwise the cooking results might be impaired.
If the door is opened during operation, the word "door" will flash in the display alternating with the remaining cooking duration. The cooking duration stops counting down.
After the door is shut and locked again the cooking time will appear constantly in the display and will continue counting down. The constant tone which sounds with some of the functions stops when the door is shut.

Cleaning and heating up for the first time
The appliance and accessories have been treated with a conditioning agent before leaving the factory. Use a solution of hot water with a little washing-up liquid to remove it.
You should then run the Steam with pressure 4 programme for 10 minutes to flush out the waterways.
You should also lubricate the groove in the door as described in "Door seal" to make the door easier to use.
Proceed as follows:
^ Open the stopcock. ^ Close the appliance door and push
the door handle downwards until you hear it click into position.
^ Turn the function selector clockwise
to Steam with pressure 4, with the recommended temperature of 120 °C.
^
Set a duration of at least 10 minutes (see "Setting a cooking duration").
^
Start the programme (see "Starting a programme").
At the end of the set duration the oven will beep 5 times.
^
Turn the function selector to "0" and open the door.
^
Wipe out the cooking compartment with a mild solution of hot water and washing up liquid or a little vinegar and then dry it with a cloth.
^
Leave the door open to allow the compartment to dry out thoroughly.
^
Close the stopcock to avoid any risk of water damage.

- the filter at the bottom of the appliance is correctly positioned to prevent pieces of food blocking the drain and the pump.

Selecting a function
Proceed as follows:
^
Turn the function selector clockwise to the required function.
The ring around the selector will light up. Two zeros will flash in the timer display. The recommended temperature for that function will appear in the temperature display. See "Altering the recommended temperature" for more information.
Exception: Steam baking 8
The recommended temperature will flash in the temperature display.
With this function you cannot set a cooking duration until the appliance has been pre-heated (see "Activating automatic pre-heating").
Altering the recommended temperature
You can alter the recommended temperature for all functions in 1 °C increments at any time, i.e. at the start as well as during a programme.
Proceed as follows:
^
Increase or decrease the temperature using the + or ­temperature selector buttons.
If the display has already changed from showing the recommended temperature to showing the current temperature in the oven (the { symbol will be visible in the display), you can switch back to the recommended temperature again by pressing the middle of the temperature selector briefly (not necessary with Steam 3 or Steam with pressure4).

Activating automatic pre-heating
(only with Steam baking 8) Before you can use Steam baking 8
you must pre-heat the cooking compartment with the automatic pre-heating function.
Proceed as follows:
^
First select the function and then adjust the recommended temperature if wished. Then activate automatic pre-heating by pressing the middle of the timer button.
Four horizontal bars will light up in the timer display and the word "START" will appear above them to indicate that automatic pre-heating has been activated.
At the same time the temperature display will alternate between showing the target temperature and the actual temperature in the cooking compartment. The { symbol will appear to show that the oven is heating up. The rise in temperature in the oven compartment can be followed in the temperature display.
As soon as the target temperature is reached the { symbol in the temperature display goes out and the oven will beep 5 times. The timer display changes from showing the four horizontal bars to showing two flashing zeros. You can now place the food to be cooked in the oven, set a cooking duration and start the programme.

Setting a cooking duration
Proceed as follows:
^
Whilst the zeros are flashing in the timer display, use the + or - timer buttons to set the required duration, e.g. 45 minutes.
A time of between 1 minute (01) and 4 hours 59 minutes (4:59) can be set.
The cooking duration set will then flash in the display.
The cooking duration can be changed at any time even if a programme has already started.

The digits in the timer display stop flashing and light up constantly. The word "START" will appear at the top left hand side of the timer display to indicate that the programme has started.
At the same time the temperature display will change from showing the target temperature to showing the actual temperature in the cooking compartment (e.g. 25 °C). The { symbol will appear to show that the oven is heating up. The rise in temperature in the oven compartment can be followed in the temperature display.
Exception: With Steam 3 and Steam with pressure 4 the temperature display does not change after the programme has started. The target temperature continues to be displayed. With these functions, the programme only starts when the { symbol has gone out.
If the cooking compartment has already been pre-heated using automatic pre-heating, the temperature shown after the start of the programme is the target temperature. The { symbol does not appear in this instance.

Interrupting a programme
You can interrupt a programme which is in operation at any time. If you are using Steam 3, Steam with pressure 4, Roasting 5 or Steam pressure roasting 6 you will have to interrupt the programme before you can open the door.
When using Steam pressure roasting 6 and Steam baking8 do not open the door during operation unless the recipe specifically tells you to do so, otherwise the cooking results might be impaired.
Proceed as follows:
^ Press the middle of the timer button. The word "STOP" will appear in the
timer display, left above the cooking duration remaining.
The heating is switched off. If pressure has built up this will be released, the oven compartment cooled down and the condensate pumped away.
After a while the oven will beep 5 times and the cooking duration remaining will flash in the display. You can now open the door.
^
To continue the programme, shut and lock the door and press the middle of the timer button.
When interrupting a programme do not open the door before the beeps. Otherwise there is a danger of water leaking out.

Changing a function
If the function selector is turned to a different setting during operation , the word "Pro" will appear in the timer display with the word "STOP" above it.
After a while the oven will beep 5 times, "Pro" and "STOP" will go out and two zeros will start flashing in the display.
The recommended temperature for the newly selected function will appear in the temperature display.
You can now continue setting the programme in the usual way, i.e. adjust the recommended temperature, activate automatic pre-heating if required, set a cooking duration and start the programme.
At the end of the cooking duration
With the functions Steam 3, Steam with pressure 4 and Steam pressure roasting 6 there is a one minute cooling down period at the end of the cooking duration. The heating is switched off. If pressure has built up this will be released, the oven compartment cooled down and the condensate pumped away. The word "STOP" will appear in the timer display.
At the end of the cooling down period, the oven beeps 5 times, "STOP" goes out and two zeros flash.
With the functions Roasting 5, Grilling n, Baking A and Steam baking 8 the oven will beep five times and two zeros will flash in the display at the end of the set cooking duration.
You can then either continue cooking or you can switch the appliance off.

If you have been working with a temperature of less than 100 °C (e.g. proving dough) and want to continue using the same function but with a temperature above 100 °C (e.g. baking), you have to turn the function selector one to "0" so that the appliance will heat up more quickly.

To switch off:

If the appliance was switched off

If cooking was done with steam, the d symbol will appear on the right hand side of the timer display above the current time of day after the appliance has been switched off to indicate that the steam generator is being emptied.
After switching off, wait until the temperature display has gone out and only the current time of day is showing in the display before using the appliance again.
After use with steam, leave the door open until all the moisture in the cooking compartment has dissipated and the interior is dry.
Do not switch the appliance off at the mains whilst the steam generator is being emptied.
After switching off at the mains electricity point, turn off the stopcock to prevent the risk of possible water damage.

Steaming
Advantages of cooking with steam
Steam prevents food from drying out so it remains moist, and juices are not lost. This applies to a wide variety of food, including dumplings, steam puddings, fish and meat dishes, as well as vegetables.
Food does not brown or get crisp from over-cooking. It is gently steamed, and not roasted or baked. Cheese melts perfectly without getting burnt. It is a healthy way of cooking, and it brings out the distinct flavour of the food.
Choosing the right container
Some stainless steel cooking containers are supplied with the appliance. Other containers, in a variety of sizes, both perforated and solid, are available as optional extras. This enables you to choose the most suitable container for the food you are preparing.
When selecting a container, please note:
Use perforated cooking containers whenever possible so long as the food is suitable, e.g. for vegetables. The steam can reach the food from all sides and the food is cooked evenly.
– Only use a solid container or the grill
pan / oven tray when cooking food in its own juices or gravy, or when cooking food such as rice.
– With large items of food, such as
whole potatoes, the steam can work more effectively because there are spaces between the individual pieces into which the steam can penetrate. This way a large quantity will take the same time to cook as a smaller amount and large, deep containers can be used. Where possible, space the food out to allow the steam more room.

More compact dishes such as casseroles or bakes, or food such as peas or asparagus spears, which have little or no space between them will take longer to cook because the steam has less space to work in. The fuller the container, the longer it will take to cook. It is best to use 2 or 3 flat containers rather than one deep one for these types of foods, and then fill them only 3 - 5 cm deep. Divide larger quantities of food between several shallow containers, so the recommended maximum capacity is not exceeded. Cooking durations quoted are calculated on this principle. Deeper dishes will take longer to cook.
– The steam oven is designed to cook
quantities of up to 12-18 portions. Be careful not to exceed this amount.
You will find various tips on how to use the steam oven in the following sections or in the cook book.
You can also use your own containers and dishes. However, please note the following:
The container must be heat resistant to 120 °C. Heat-resistant glass, ceramics, porcelain, chinaware, stainless steel and enamel dishes are all suitable.
Food will take considerably longer to cook than the time quoted if the dish has thick sides.
Place the container on the rack supplied.
– Ensure that there is a gap of at least
3 cm between the upper rim of the container and the top of the cooking compartment to allow sufficient steam into the container.

Tips on steaming
We recommend using: Steam with pressure 4 for robust food, e.g. vegetables, pulses, stock etc. Steam without pressure 3 for delicate food, e.g. fruit, delicate vegetables, fish etc.
When using Steam with pressure 4 cooking will take approx. half the time it would take without pressure.
Place the oven tray supplied on the lowest runner level to collect any condensed water. Always use the tray underneath a perforated cooking container.
– You can select any shelf level. You
can also cook on several levels at the same time. This will not alter the cooking duration.
– When cooking frozen food, e.g.
vegetables, ensure that any large clumps frozen together are broken up first so that they cook evenly. The cooking duration is approximately the same as for fresh vegetables.
Frozen and fresh vegetables which take the same length of time to cook can be cooked together.
Cooking with steam retains the true taste of the food better than conventional cooking. Food should not therefore be seasoned until after it has been cooked.
Only fill solid containers with liquid up to the lower rim.
Dried foods like pasta and rice must be cooked in liquid. Pasta should be well covered with liquid. With rice, pulses etc. the proportion of food to liquid should be 1:1.
Cooking liquids do not boil away. They are either absorbed by the food, as with rice and pasta, or they remain in the dish to form a sauce, as with casseroles. The sauce can then be thickened or added to after cooking.
– Cook fish at temperatures of between
85 °C and 100 °C, as this gentle cooking will maintain texture and natural colour.
– Grease perforated containers
beforehand if used for cooking fish in its skin, and solid containers if used for cooking dishes containing eggs.
– To avoid any transfer of tastes
caused by moisture dripping down from above when cooking on several levels, place solid containers above any perforated containers or the grill pan / oven tray or baking tray can be used under a perforated container. If using a perforated container on a lower shelf level, always place a solid container underneath to prevent any moisture dripping down onto the heater element.

Tips on roasting
The times quoted in the chart are suggestions only and may differ depending on personal taste.
Roasting 5 is ideal for cooking poultry with a crispy skin. Steam pressure roasting 6 is ideal for cooking meat in its juices or gravy.
When using Steam pressure roasting 6 cooking will only take approx. half the time it would take without pressure.
Always defrost meat before cooking. Never cook from frozen.
– If adding salt to meat, only do so
shortly before roasting to prevent the meat losing its juices.
– Since there is no need to baste when
roasting in this appliance, salt and seasoning should be rubbed into the meat before roasting. Adding a little oil makes it easier to rub dry herbs into the meat.
Put joints for roasting e.g. pork with crackling, as well as poultry or poultry pieces directly on the rack, with the grill pan / oven tray on the runner underneath to catch any juices.
For braising, however, place the meat into a roasting dish or directly in the grill pan / oven tray.
To achieve the best results, use a roasting thermometer.
The runner levels quoted in the chart have been selected so that that the meat is centrally positioned in the oven. Very tall roasts and large poultry should be placed on the 2nd shelf level.
Meat which has been stored at a very low temperature will need a longer roasting time than that given in the chart.
If the overall cooking time is quite long and if vegetables, such as onions, tomatoes, carrots etc. are to be added to the roast, we recommend that you do not add these until more than half-way through the roasting time. Otherwise they can become too dark and give the gravy a bitter taste.
– Allow a standing time of approx. 10
minutes after the end of cooking so that the meat juices are evenly distributed.

Tips on baking
Handling and preparing food correctly is essential for maintaining good health. Only bake cakes, pizza, chips etc. until they are golden brown. Do not overcook them or allow them to become dark brown. Refer to the baking chart for recommended temperatures and times.
Always select the lowest temperature given in the chart/recipe/cooking instructions given on the packaging. Do not select a higher temperature than that advised. Increasing the temperature may reduce the baking time, but will lead to uneven browning. In some cases cakes might not cook properly.
– At the end of the shorter time given,
check to see whether the cake etc. is done. Insert a metal or wooden skewer into the centre. If it comes out clean, without dough or crumbs sticking to it, the cake is ready.
Steam baking 8 is ideal for bread, bread rolls and yeast doughs e.g. Stollen and puff pastries.
When using Baking A pre-heat the oven for 5 minutes.
It is not possible to bake on more than one level at a time in this appliance.
Before Steam baking 8 and before Baking A check the recess underneath the filter in the base of the oven. It must always be dry, otherwise the items being baked will not rise properly.
When baking cakes with a deep fresh fruit filling, e.g. plum or damson, use the grill pan / oven tray. This will avoid juices from spilling over and will make it easier to clean the oven.
– Yeast dough can be put in the oven
to rise. Turn the function selector to Baking A and reduce the recommended temperature to 50 °C. Set a time of 30 minutes for proving and start the oven. Remember to cover the dough!

When baking deep frozen products such as cakes, pizza and baguettes, use the lowest temperature quoted on the manufacturer's packaging. Use the rack covered with baking parchment.
Deep frozen foods such as oven chips or potato croquettes can be cooked on the baking tray or grill pan. Place these types of frozen foods on baking parchment and select the lowest temperature quoted on the manufacturer's packaging.
Tips on saving energy
If baking times are longer than 30 minutes, you can switch the oven off a little before the end of the cooking time to make use of the residual heat in the oven and save energy. With Baking A switch off approx. 5-10 minutes before the end of the cooking time and with Steam baking 8 approx. 5 minutes before the end of the cooking time. Leave the baking in the oven with the door closed for a further 5-10 minutes.

Meal planning
It is very economical and practical to cook a whole meal at the same time in the steam combination oven.
In general, cooking durations will vary according to the type of food. This means that you will need to open the steam oven at different times to add a particular dish. Our test kitchen recommends the following procedure, as shown in this example (Function: Steam 3).

Blanching
You can use your steam oven to blanch vegetables and fruit to prepare them for freezing using Steam 3.
Proceed as follows:

Put the prepared vegetables/fruit (cleaned, washed, chopped etc.) into a perforated cooking container.

Place the container in the appliance.

Select Steam 3. The recommended temperature of 100 °C is suitable for blanching.
^
Set a time of 1-2 minutes and start the programme.
^
Once blanched, plunge the vegetables/fruit into ice-cold water to cool them down quickly and then drain them thoroughly.
The vegetables/fruit can now be frozen.

Defrost
Deep frozen food can also be defrosted using steam in this appliance in much less time than when defrosting at room temperature.
Proceed as follows:

Place the food in a suitable container or on the rack.

Select Steam 3 and lower the recommended temperature to between 30-50 °C.

programme.
Tips on defrosting
– When defrosting meat or poultry
place the grill pan / oven tray underneath the rack to catch the defrosted liquid, so that the meat is not lying in this liquid.
It is particularly important to observe food hygiene rules when defrosting poultry. Do not use the liquid from defrosted poultry. Pour it away and wash the tray, the sink and your hands. Danger of salmonella.
Where possible remove the packaging and put the food to be defrosted on a baking tray or into a suitable dish. Food which does not contain juices/water can be defrosted in its packaging on a baking tray.
Fish does not need to be fully defrosted before cooking. Defrost so that the surface is sufficiently thawed to take herbs and seasoning.
Turn, stir or separate food about half-way through the defrosting time.
Allow food to stand at room temperature at the end of the defrosting time. This standing time is necessary to ensure that the food is fully defrosted right through to the core.
Do not refreeze food once it has thawed.

Yoghurt
Proceed as follows:

Mix 100 g yoghurt (with live culture) with 1 litre of full cream milk. The yoghurt and milk should have the same percentage fat content. If using unpasteurised milk you will need to heat it up to 90 °C (do not boil) and then leave it to cool. Otherwise the yoghurt will not set.
^
Pour this milk mixture into 6 or 7 portion sized glass dishes and cover with heat resistant cling film. Special yoghurt jars may also be used.
^ Position the rack at level 2 in the oven
and place the covered dishes on the rack.
^
Select Baking A and lower the recommended temperature to between 40-60 °C.
^
Select the maximum cooking time (4:59) and start the programme.
^
Allow the yoghurt to cool and then place in the refrigerator.

The time of day disappears, 00 appears and a bell symbol lflashes.
^ Whilst the bell symbol is flashing, use
the + on the timer button to set the required time, e.g. 30 minutes.
A time of between 1 minute and 6 hours can be set.
Setting and altering the minute minder time is only possible while the bell symbol l is flashing. If the bell symbol l is no longer flashing then start again from the beginning.
The minute minder time selected is stored in memory after a few seconds or if the middle of the timer button is pressed. The time of day will reappear in the display and the bell symbol l will light up at the same time.
The time set for the minute minder counts down unseen in the background.
At the end of the set minute minder time the oven will beep and the bell symbol l flashes in the display. The beeps last for a maximum of 3 minutes. They can be switched off at any time by pressing the timer or temperature button.
To correct the time:
Press the middle of the timer button briefly until the bell symbol l flashes. Then alter the minute minder time using
+ or -. To check the time:
Press the middle of the timer button briefly. The minute minder time remaining will appear in the display.
To delete the time:
Press the middle of the timer button briefly until the bell symbol l flashes. Then set the minute minder time to 00 with -.

Safety lock
The oven is fitted with a safety lock to prevent it either being switched on, or the temperature increased, unintentionally, by children for example.
The safety lock can be activated with the appliance switched on or off.
If the safety lock is activated when the appliance is switched off, a function can be set, however the appliance cannot be started.
If the safety lock is activated when the oven is in operation then the appliance can only be used as follows:
– The set temperature can be
decreased but not increased.
– Once the appliance is switched off it
cannot be switched back on again.
– If the function selector is turned to a
different position the function it cannot be started. The appliance can now only be switched off.
To activate the safety lock:
^
Press the temperature button briefly five times in succession.
A long tone will sound and the L symbol for the safety lock will light up in the temperature display.
To deactivate the safety lock:
^ Press the temperature button briefly
five times in succession.
A long tone will sound and the L symbol goes out.
The lock is now deactivated.

Overheating protection
The appliance has a safety feature which prevents it overheating. If the temperature in the steam generating unit becomes too high the appliance switches off automatically.
Displays and settings remain unchanged.
You can tell that the automatic overheating protection mechanism has been activated because the appliance is not heating up even though the cooking duration is counting down in the display.
Proceed as follows:
^
Turn the function selector to "0" and wait until the appliance has cooled down.
^
Remove the cap covering the overheating protection mechanism safety release switch at the bottom right hand side of the appliance near the oven compartment (see arrow) and press the safety release switch in. Replace the cover cap. The appliance can now be used again in the normal way.
If the overheating protection device operates again, contact the Service department.

Pressure release
In the event of too much pressure building up during cooking, the silicone washer in the pressure release mechanism in the appliance door will be forced out, allowing the steam to escape via the top of the door.
Proceed as follows:
^
Turn the function selector to "0" and wait until the appliance has cooled down.
^
Fit a new washer into the holder k on the inside the appliance door (see "Accessories supplied").
The appliance can now be used again in the normal way.
If the pressure release washer blows out again, contact the Service department.
Draining manually
In the event of condensed water not being automatically drained out of the appliance after cooking you will need to run the Drain 0 programme to manually drain it.
Proceed as follows:
^
Turn the function selector to Drain 0.
All displays, including the timer display will go out and you will hear a pumping sound.
^ Turn the function selector to "0" after
approx. 15 minutes.
The time of 12.00 will flash in the timer display indicating that you need to reset the time of day (see "Setting the time of day initially").
If there is still water in the oven compartment after running the Drain 0 programme or if this fault occurs again, contact the Service Department (see back cover for address).

Do not use a steam cleaner to clean this appliance. The steam could reach electrical components and cause a short circuit. Pressurised steam could also cause permanent damage to the surface and to components, for which the manufacturer cannot accept liability.
Never use cleaners containing alkalines, soda, acids or chlorides or abrasive cleaning agents, hard brushes, scouring pads and cloths or steel wool. These attack the surfaces and cause damage.
Appliance front
The appliance front and controls should be cleaned using a mild solution of hot water with a little washing up liquid, applied with a damp cloth. Wipe dry using a soft cloth.
Stainless steel surfaces can be cleaned using a proprietary cleaner for stainless steel. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and apply following the direction of the "grain". If desired you could use a suitable proprietary conditioning agent for stainless steel afterwards which is designed to prevent water marks and smears adhering to the surface. After cleaning the surfaces apply the conditioning agent sparingly over the whole area. Cleaning and conditioning agents for stainless steel are available from good retail outlets.
E-cloth
A microfibre "E-Cloth" is available from the Miele UK Spare Parts Department, which is suitable for cleaning surfaces such as stainless steel, glass, plastic and chrome without the use of chemicals.
Baking tray, grill pan / oven tray, rack, cooking containers
The baking tray, grill pan / oven tray, rack and cooking containers should be washed and dried each time they are used.
Soak any stubborn soiling first before removing with a soft brush.
They are all dishwasher safe.
Drip channel
The drip tray is situated below the door behind a panel. It should be removed and cleaned of residual grease and wa

ter regularly.
To remove the drip tray:

Hold the panel on each side and pull it towards you.

Pull out the drip tray.

Oven interior
The walls and door should be cleaned after each use. The walls are made from an easy to clean chrome nickel steel. Because of its anti-stick properties most baking and roasting residues can be easily removed with a solution of hot water and washing up liquid applied with a soft sponge.
Light soiling is best removed while the oven is warm.
Stubborn dried on soiling, e. g. after grilling, can be removed using steam in this appliance.
Proceed as follows:

Select Steam 3 and lower the recommended temperature to between 50-60 °C.
^
Set a time of 15 minutes and start the programme.
After switching off the appliance wipe any residual moisture out of the oven compartment with a soft cloth.
Make sure it is thoroughly dry before you shut the door.

Drain filter and side runners
The drain filter f on the floor of the oven collects coarse soiling from cooking. It should be removed after steam cooking and then washed either in the dishwasher or by hand with a solution of hot water and washing up liquid. If necessary, the runners m can also be washed in the dishwasher or in a solution of hot water and washing up liquid.
To remove the runners:
^
Loosen the fixing screws t and the runners can then be removed quite easily by pulling them towards you.
To replace the runners:
^
After cleaning, re-fit the runners by placing the runner with the guide s (at the front in the middle) on to the loosened fixing screws.
^
Insert the eyelet on the runner (at the back in the middle) on to the protuding pin u in the rear wall of the cooking compartment.
^ Tighten the screws again.

Door seal
The door seal consists of a rubber seal a and a metal frame b. These need to be cleaned and maintained regularly.
Proceed as follows:
^
Using a flat, blunt instrument, e.g. a spoon handle, lever the seal out of the groove in the door. Be careful not to damage the seal when doing so.
^
Clean and dry the goove in the door. Then drop a little cooking oil into the groove and use some kitchen paper towel to distribute it evenly.
^
Detach the rubber seal from the metal frame and clean both parts by hand.
^
Fit the rubber seal back onto the metal frame and fit the seal back into the groove on the door. Press the seal firmly into the groove all round, making sure that it does not protrude above the groove. The seal is correctly fitted if the door is easy to shut.
The door seal should be replaced every 1-2 years, depending upon frequency of use.

Water nozzle
The water nozzle b, located in the cooking compartment between the top heater elements has several spray holes. These holes are susceptible to limescale, especially in hard water areas. The water nozzle will need to descaled on a regular basis, more often than is the case with the heater elements and steam generator (see "Descaling").
Proceed as follows:
^
Loosen nut a at the front end of the water nozzle until you are able to swing butt strap b to one side, and release the flat front end of the water nozzle.
^ Using pliers turn the water nozzle
around 180°. You will be able to grip it better from this position.
^
Now pull the water nozzle out of its socket c at the rear of the cooking compartment. If it is difficult to remove you may need to use the pliers again.
^
Soak the water nozzle in a solution of descaling agent until all the spray holes in the side are free of limescale. If necessary use a needle to remove the limescale. Use the CC-Descaling agent supplied with the appliance or a suitable proprietary descaling agent (e.g. one suitable for use in coffee machines) and follow the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.
^ After descaling, rinse the spray arm
out thoroughly with clean water and leave to dry.
^ Re-fit it in its socket and secure it at
the front using butt strap b and nut a.

Descaling
Descaling must only be carried out on a cold appliance. Otherwise harmful vapours can build up. Do not interrupt the descaling programme once it has started or switch to a different programme before it has finished! Descaling agent contains irritants. Avoid contact with the the skin and do not inhale the vapours. If you do come into contact with descaling agent it should be rinsed off immediately with plenty of fresh water. In the event of an adverse reaction or if it has been inhaled or injested, seek medical help. Replace the lid securely after use and keep out of the reach of children.
The heater elements and steam generator should be descaled as soon as possible when
the symbol k appears in the temperature display,
the letters "EE EE" appear flashing in the timer display alternating with two zeros after selecting a function.
Your appliance has a special descaling programme.
If you do not wish to carry out the descaling progamme immediately, switch the appliance on again in the usual way. The descaling programme must however be carried out after the fifth use.

Proceed as follows:

Wait until the appliance has cooled down.

Select Descale 9 .
The symbol k will light up in the temperature display together with the letters "EE EE". The descaling duration of 35 minutes will flash in the timer display.

Press the middle of the timer button once.
The appliance will beep several times, indicating that the appliance is now ready to be injected with descaling agent.
^
Use the connecting piece b (which is located in the piston of the syringe) to connect the dispensing syringe supplied a to the filling tube c.
^ Fill the syringe with descaling agent,
using the "CC" descaling agent supplied with the appliance or a suitable proprietary descaling agent, prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging.

Inject the contents of 2 full syringes of descaling agent into the steam inlet d, in the top right-hand side of the cooking compartment wall. Warning: Do not confuse the steam inlet d with the steam outlet c behind it.
^ Close the door and start the
programme.
The digits will light up constantly in the timer display and the word "START" will appear at the top left indicating that the time has started to count down.
^
At the end of the descaling programme, the appliance will beep 5 times. Set the function selector back to the "0" position. This will initiate a drain process, whereby any limescale deposits that have been loosened by the descaling process are flushed out of the steam generator.
^
Wipe out the cooking compartment with a mild solution of hot water and washing up liquid or a little vinegar and then dry it with a cloth.
Please note that the descaling programme 9 does not descale the water nozzle. This must always be done separately as previously described.

Filter system
Only use a sponge and a solution of hot water and a little washing up liquid to clean the outside of the filter system.
Do not use agressive cleaning agents containing chlorides, sand, soda, alkali, acid or scouring agents. Do not use oven sprays.
Replacing the filter cartridge
The filter cartridge must be replaced every 6 months to ensure efficiency. It is not recyclable and should be disposed of with the normal household waste.
Refer to the instructions supplied with the filter cartridge for details on how to replace it.

Check whether,

A small difference in browning is not unusual. Manufacturers use a percentage figure in their product information data for browning levels.
If the difference in browning is very noticeable, check the colour and composition of the baking tins being used. Thin and shiny tins are generally not very good. Try using a different tin next time.

F01 Not enough water is running into
the steam generator in the time allocated.
Turn the programme selector to Drain 0 and then back to "0". Set the time of day again and start a programme again.
If the fault message appears again, switch the appliance off and call the Service department.
F04 is constantly lit up at first and then later starts to flash alternately with 00: The power supply was interrupted while a programme was running.
Select a cooking duration and start the programme again. After switching off the appliance set the time of day again.
F05 The temperature in the cooking compartment is too high. The appliance has not cooled down sufficiently during the cooling down phase.
Turn the function selector to "0" and wait until the appliance has drained if necessary. Check whether the water nozzle is blocked or scaled up. If it is, proceed as described in "Water nozzle".

F06 The temperature thermostat is faulty. This caused the oven to switch itself off automatically.
