Ropeways with hydraulic promotion rope tensioning arrangement have to be switched o before beginning of the rescue, in order to prevent a moving of the rope by the tensioning arrangement. Rescue work within the endangerment range of the rope may take place only after the disconnection was operated.
These operating instructions relate to the IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2. Please read through these operating instructions carefully and keep all product instructions and information.
Activities at high altitudes are dangerous and can lead to serious and even fatal injuries. It is solely your responsibility to learn the user and safety precautions.
The IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 may only be used by instructed and trained, expert personnel.
The IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 is only designed for rescuing people in cableway installations. The manufacturer should be consulted regarding use for non-intended purposes.
The operating instructions of the various products used in conjunction with the IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 must be complied with.
No modifications may be carried out on parts.
In the event of a serious accident or if the IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 itself falls down or a heavy object falls onto it, the device may no longer be used. A deformation can impair the function of the sliding vehicle or internal non-visible fractures can reduce its strength.
The rescue carriage may only be used for the purpose intended. Other applications, such as the transportation of materials, is not allowed.
1. Important Information
The IMMOOS-rescue carriage has been certified in accordance with the Directive 2000/9/EC.
2. Technical Details
Two versions are avaiable:
Version 1 SS1 / SS2 mGB = with speed limitation and 105% rope inclination
Version 2 SS1oGB = without speed limitation and max. 50% rope inclination
Version 1 SS1 / SS2 mGB Version 2 SS1oGB

Version 1 Version 2 (SS1 mGB / SS2 mGB / SS1-Twin) (SS1 oGB)
Nominal diameter of rope: Nominal diameter of rope:
12 - 60 mm (SS1 mGB / SS1-Twin) 12 - 60 mm 30 - 75 mm (SS2 mGB)
Maximum rope inclination: Maximum rope inclination:
105% (~45º) 50% (26.5º)
Maximum speed: Maximum speed:
approx. 1.8 m/Sek approx.1.8 m/Sek
Maximum load: Maximum load:
v = 0: 2.5 kN v = 0: 2.5 kN v ≠ 0: 1.25 kN v ≠ 0: 1.25 kN
Weight: Weight:
ca. 7.0 Kg ca. 5.0 Kg
The IMMOOS rescue carriage is limited for a working load of maximum 2.5 kN by no motion (v = 0). By motion (v ≠ 0) the maximum working load is 1.25 kN.
Test drives:
Dierent test drives were carried out with the rescue carriage on various ropeways.
The advantage of this lies in the fact that this rescue carriage can be driven independently to the blocked cable car vehicle without a retaining rope and without the aid of an additional rescuer or helper.
The device can be used on all ropeway systems for sliding the "rescuer on the rope”. (SS1 = Rope diameter 12 - 60 mm / SS2 = Rope diameter 30 - 75 mm)

The IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 is mounted from the pylon platforms or from the vehicles. Before mounting, the IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 is adjusted to the appropriate ropeway- diameter. The three rope diameter ranges are: SS1: 12 - 24 mm / 24 - 44 mm / 44 - 60 mm SS2: 30 - 46 mm / 46 - 64 mm / 64 - 75 mm
The hook of the safety line is attached to a suitable place during every action.
5. Preparation of the Rescue Carriage
The IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 is mainly used for rescuing persons on ropeways.
4.1 Braking and Safety
The IMMOOS rescue carriage type SS1 / SS2 enables a rescuer to reach the occupied cable car vehicle along the rope (stranded rope) during a ropeway rescue.
Version 1:
The rescue carriage type SS1 mGB / SS1-Twin / SS2 mGB has automatic brakes (centrifugal and dead man's brake). It is admit- tet for maximum 105% rope inclination.
Version 2:
The rescue carriage type SS1 oGB does not have automatic brakes. It is admittet for maximum 50% rope inclination.
Securing with a retaining rope is not necessary.
4.2 Description
The rescue carriage basically consists of:
- A body with a drive braking roller, guide roller and counter-pressure roller.
- A centrifugal brake for limiting the speed at approx. 1.8 m/s. (only version 1)
- A dead man's brake which is activated automatically when releasing the dead man's brake lever.
- A foldable suspension as connection to the lower part.
- Quick release pin on both sides for adjusting the correct rope diameter.
- A handbrake with counter-pressure roller for mechanical braking.
- Turning handle to adjust the brake, acting on the counter-pressure roller
- A suspension with 3 fixing points for the rescuer and materials.
- Suspension line (safety line 2 m with rope shortener Grillon and 2 karabiners)
- Descent and ascent aid with 1 karabiner
Accessory options:
- Hand cranks
- Battery-driven hand drill with special bolts
- 2. Suspension for rescuer (rope sling 24 cm and karabiner)
The "rescuer on the rope" is protected against falling by means of the additional safety line attached to the rope with a hook.
