ULTRIUM LTO UNIVERSAL CLEANING CARTRIDGE

The Ultrium LTO Universal Cleaning Cartridge is designed specically to clean all Ultrium LTO 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 drives, extending their life and helping to maintain data integrity. The Ultrium system is based on the industry’s rst open data storage platform. The LTO consortium – comprised of drive manufacturers HP, IBM and Quantum – developed this technology to meet the increased midrange and enterprise storage demands analysts predict over the next decade.

Imation Cleaning Cartridge Products are Designed Specically for Each Tape Drive Format

The cleaning process is unique to each Ultrium drive. The amount of cleanings per cartridge is based on how the drive performs the cleaning process. Cleaning is done by shufing a specic amount of tape over the drive head based on a specic cleaning algorithm that is unique to each drive manufacturer, therefore different amounts of tape are used for each drive—some use more, some use less. Each process provides a cleaning that is right for its drive. Regular cleaning of the drive reduces build-up or stains that have been deposited on the head.

The HP drive has been developed to have a minimal cleaning requirement and will alert you when it needs cleaning. You should only clean the heads if the “use cleaning cartridge” signal is ashing. The LTO Ultrium Universal Cleaning Cartridge will provide 15 to 50 cleanings per cartridge, as specied by the drive.

The Quantum Ultrium drive requires minimal cleaning with normal usage in a typical ofce environment. The drive will indicate if cleaning is required by continuous illumination of the amber colored (cleaning) LED. Some environments may cause the drive to require a more regimented cleaning schedule. The Imation LTO Ultrium Universal Cleaning Cartridge will provide up to 50 cleanings per cartridge, as specied by the drive.

The IBM drive determines when a drive needs to be cleaned. If cleaning is required, a “C” will display in the single character display area and the status light will turn off. The Imation LTO Ultrium Universal Cleaning Cartridge will provide up to 50 cleanings per cartridge, as specied by the drive.

This universal cleaning cartridge is capable of being used in all generation 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Ultrium format tape drives. Specic revisions of rmware may be required for proper operation. In the event this cleaning cartridge does not operate properly, please contact your drive manufacturer or system vendor for rmware upgrade information.
