Advancing the Power of Open System Data Storage
THE NEW STANDARD
THE IMATION ULTRIUM ADVANTAGE
IN HIGH-CAPACITY, OPEN SYSTEM DATA STORAGE
Imation leverages a long-standing heritage in reliable, secure and durable data storage products and expertise in metal particulate media to help ensure that Ultrium LTO media exceeds standards for data protection and delivers the most data in a single, multi-terabyte data cartridge.
As a leading manufacturer of LTO generations 1, 2, 3 and 4, Imation expands on its tape media portfolio offering the next-generation Ultrium LTO 5 cartridge. Optimized for high capacity and performance with outstanding reliability, in either a stand-alone or an automated environment, the newest tape cartridge offers
1.5 terabytes of native storage or 3.0 terabytes of compressed storage and data transfer rates of up to 280MB/second. Ultrium LTO 5 tape cartridges offer significant improvements over prior tape generations. Enhancements in servo technology and improved data compression ensure the same length of tape can store more information and is suited for backup, restore and archive applications. The new format adds a partitioning functionality that enables nearline applications to index data and allows for faster searches via enhanced file control and space management. LTO 5 cartridges continue to offer hardware-based encryption, protecting the storage and transport of sensitive information.
A universal cleaning cartride is available and can be used on all generation Ultrium drives.
IMATION TERA ÅNGSTROM TECHNOLOGY
In 2004, Imation invested in a state-of-the-art magnetic tape manufacturing facility to support growing data storage needs and with future tape formats in mind. This facility features Imation’s proprietary Tera Ångstrom™ Technology. Consisting of advanced metal particulate formulation and manufacturing processes, Imation’s Tera Ångstrom technology employs three unique steps in producing a uniform coating layer – an impingement process, a quiescent drying process, and advanced in-line calendaring. These steps combine to create magnetic media with a significantly smoother surface and a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), delivering reduced errors and faster transfer rates. With Tera Ångstrom technology, Imation continues to advance magnetic tape development by reaching the next milestone with a multi-terabyte Ultrium LTO cartridge.
Imation Tera Ångstrom technology provides advancements in quality reliability and performance
QUALITY
The development of our new advanced terabyte-class manufacturing facility builds on Imation’s quality discipline and incorporates state-of-the-art quality practices.
RELIABILITY
Is it a 0 or is it a 1? Surface uniformity (smoothness) and high signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) allow accurate data reading.
PERFORMANCE
High SNR and consistent signal strength help ensure efficient processing time. Noise can slow down processing time—a high SNR helps enable faster transfer rates for increased productivity.
