Using the Copier Properly
To ensure the opti mum performance of the copier, follow the precau ti ons li ste d be low.
• Never place a heavy object on the copier.
• Never subject the copier to shoc ks.
• Never open any doors or turn the copier off while the cop ie r is ma ki ng copies.
• Never bring any magnetized object near the copier.
• Never use flammable sprays, liqui ds or gases near the copier.
• Never modify the copier, as a fire or electrical shock could result.
• Never remove any panel or cover which is secured. The copier contains high voltage
component s w hi ch can cause ele ct ric al shock.
• Never tamper with the laser mechanism in laser-equipped models, as blindness or
other injury may result.
• Never drop paper clips, staples or other small pieces of metal through the vents or
other openings in the cop ie r, as a fire or electrical shoc k ca n result.
• Never place co nta in ers of li qui d on the co pier. I f liq ui ds ge t in si de th e cop ier, the y ca n
cause fire or electrical shock. If a piece of met al or any liquid gets inside the co pier,
immediately turn the copi er off, unpl ug the power cord and ca ll your technical
representative. A fire or electrical shock can result if the copier remains plugged in or
is operated after m etal or liqui d gets inside.
• Never leave the copier running if it becomes unu sually hot, or if smoke or an unusua l
odor or noise is detecte d. Should any of these conditions oc c ur, immediatel y tur n the
copier off, unplug the power co rd and call your technical represent at ive. A fire or
electrical shoc k can result if the copier remains plugged in under any of these
conditions.
• Always insert the power plug all the way int o th e outlet.
• Always make sure that the outlet is visible, clear of the copier or copier cabinet.
• Always provide good ventilatio n w hen making a large number of continuous cop ie s .
• Never pull on the power cord, and always hold th e pl ug when unplugg ing the power
cord. A damaged cord could resul t i n a fire or cause an electrical shock.
• Never unplug the power cord wit h a wet hand, as it could cau se an electrical sho ck.
• Always unplug the power cord before moving the copier. Moving the copier with the
power cord plugged in can damage the cord resulting in a f ire or causing an electrical
shock.
• Always unplug the power cord when the copier is not going to be used for a long time.
• Never place a heavy object on the power cord, or pull or bend it, as a fire or electrical
shock can result.
• Always ensure that the copi er does not sit on or roll onto the power cord or
communications cable of other electrical equipment, as malfunctioning equipment or
a fire could result.
• Always ensure that the power cord or communications cable of other electrical
equipmen t doe s not become wedged into the copier m ec hanism, as malfunctioning
equipmen t or a fire coul d re su lt .
• Always use the correct power voltage, as improper voltage can cause a fire or
electrical shock.
Page 3
Using the Copier Properly
• Never use a multipl e ou tlet adapte r, as a fire or electrical shoc k ca n result.
• Should the power cord bec ome damaged, immediately turn the copier off, unplug the
power cord and call your technical representative. A damaged cord can result in a fire
or cause an electric shock.
• If an extension cord is needed, use one with a greater rated capacity than the
maximum power requ irements of the c opi er. The use of an extension cord that falls
short of supporting the maximum power requ ire m ents can result in overheating o r a
fire.
• Always unplug the copie r w he never anything unusual is observed during ope ra ti on.
Make sure that the outlet is nearby and clear of the copier and furniture.
• Never touch the electrical contacts inside th e r i g ht door and underneath the Imagin g
Unit, as an electrostatic discharge may damage the copier.

ENERGY STAR

Guidelines for energy efficiency.

What is an Energy Star Machine?
Energy Star machines have a feature that allows them to automatically turn off or “go to sleep” after a
period of inactivity, ensuring night and weekend shut off. This auto-feature can reduce a machine’s
annual electricity costs by over 60 percent. In addition, high speed machines will be set to automatically
make double sided copies. An organization’s paper costs can be reduced and the volume of paper sent
into the waste stream will decline. It takes 10 times more energy to produce a piece of paper than it does
to make a single copy on a machine. Therefore, using less paper also means decreased national energy
consumption.
