Installing SonicXplosion
These instructions explain how to insert the card into your machine. You should install the drivers after
installing the card.
Handling the card
To minimise the risk of damage by electrostatic charges follow these simple guidelines:
• Keep the card in its protective packaging until you are ready to install it
• Before handling the card, touch the metal frame of your computer with the back of your hand to
discharge any static electricity or use an antistatic wristband
• Hold the card by the backplate or by its edges; do not touch the printed circuit board
• Do not place the card on top of your computer or on any other metal surface
• Handle the card with care to avoid damage to the fragile electronic components on the board
Before installing the card
If you have on-board audio, you must disable it before installing SonicXplosion. This is usually done
through the BIOS control, which you can access while your computer is booting up. Refer to your
computer’s documentation for information on adjusting your BIOS settings.
If you have another sound card in your computer, you should also remove it and its drivers before
installing SonicXplosion. To do this, refer to the card’s documentation.
Write the serial number of your SonicXplosion card in the space on your warranty card.
Installing the hardware
Warning: Always switch off your computer before removing the cover and observe the warnings
specified in the manufacturer’s documentation.
1. Switch off your computer, monitor, and any hardware devices connected to your computer.
2. Switch off the plug at the wall socket, but leave the power cable connected.
3. Remove the computer’s cover.
4. Locate an empty PCI bus expansion slot and remove the slot cover.
5. Remove another slot cover to enable you to mount the Game/MIDI port.
6. Touch the bare metal chassis of your computer with the back of your hand to discharge any static
that may have built up on you or your clothes or use an antistatic wristband.
7. If you want to connect the card’s internal sockets, do so now:

• CD in 1, 2 and Aux in accept sound
from your CD drive, DVD drive, or other
line level device.
• Digital CD in connects to the digital
output on the latest CD or DVD drives.
• Game/MIDI port connector connects to
the separate Game/MIDI port.
• Wavetable header enables you to
connect a MIDI wavetable upgrade.
8. You can also set the card jumpers at this
point. Jumpers are small plastic coated
connectors which can be used connect a
pair of pins together. The jumpers simply
pull off and push back on and you should
configure them as shown below.
P1
JP2
JP3
JP1 - Switches the external Line in connector to act as a headphone socket by enabling the onboard amplifier for headphones.
JP2 - Switches the internal digital input between S/PDIF in (for connection to digital devices) and
TTL (for connection to CD/DVD-ROM drives)
JP3 - Switches digital input between internal 2-pin Digital CD in and external S/PDIF Digital in.
9. Align SonicXplosion with the PCI slot you have chosen. You will need to use some pressure to push
the card into position, but do not use excessive force.
10. Secure the card using the screw that you removed previously.
11. Align the Game/MIDI port with the other empty slot space and secure it using the screw you
removed previously.
12. Replace the computer’s cover, and switch on your computer. If you want to connect
SonicXplosion’s external connectors, do so now.
You are now ready to install the drivers. Insert the Drivers and Applications CD and cancel plug and play
if it starts. Refer to the documentation on the CD for further details.

Please return your registration card to validate your warranty.
