Chapter 1 Product Information
1.1 General Information
The WS-843A series workstations take advantage of modern flat-panel display
technology. This system unit consists of a CPU board, a power supply, a passive
backplane and a touch-pad for minimum size.
LCD Display
The WS-843A series workstations are equipped with a color 800 x 600
resolution 12.1” TFT LCD display.
Versatile Passive Backplane
WS-843A workstation is compatible with BP-10S, BP-10SD, IP-10S, PX-10S
or PCI-10S, PCI-10S2 and IP-10S2 backplane.
Optional Power Supply
The standard industrial power supply for WS-843A is ACE-832A; and other
optional compatible power supplies are listed below:
ACE-916V, ACE-925C, ACE-925T/932T or ACE-920A/932A/935A series.
Sealed-membrane Accessible Keypad
The sealed-membrane keypad has 59 data keys, including 10 function keys
to allow users enter data directly.
Power Switch and USB Port
The lockable drive door protects the power switch and USB port.

1.4 Front Accessible CD-ROM and 3.5" FDD
WS-843A workstation is equipped with one 5.25” CD-ROM, one 3.5" FDD and one
3.5” HDD. The CD-ROM and FDD are accessible by loosening the two captive
fasteners of lockable door as shown in the following diagram. A power switch and
a USB port are also reachable through opening this front lockable door.

1.5 Sealed-Membrane Accessible Keypad
The sealed-membrane keypad has 59 data keys, including 10 function keys to
allow users to enter data directly. A built-in controller will merge the signals from
the membrane keypad into one signal that acts as a standard IBM PC/AT
keyboard.

Chapter 2 System Setup
The following sections of this chapter show how to install the components and do
the maintenance.
2.1 Cards and Card Clamps Installation
Before installing the cards, the back cover should be removed first by releasing
screws as shown in the diagram below. Then, users can slowly slide the card in
and carefully press it into the appropriate slot of backplane. The card clamp is
designed to hold the add-on cards so as to let it be affixed securely into the slots
moreover to prevent them from vibrating. You may install the Card Clamp after
inserting all the add-on cards by following the steps below:
STEP 1: Place the Card Clamp into the chassis. Insert one side of the Card Clamp
to the fixed hole of the chassis.
STEP 2: If the add-on card is too short, use the holding clamp to hold the card
and fix the holding clamp using screws.
STEP 3: Put one screw on the other side of the Card Clamp then fasten it.

2.2 Disk Drives installation
WS-843A provides one 5.25" CD-ROM, one 3.5" FDD and one 3.5" HDD. The
diagram below shows how to install the disk drives. Before placing the CD-ROM
into the workstation, the CD-ROM should be mounted into the CD-ROM bracket
first. Then slide the bracket into the fixed holes and fasten it by screws. As for
the FDD and HDD, they should also be mounted into a bracket first and then
fasten the bracket into the workstation by means of screws.

2.3 Power Supply Installation
Power supply is located at the rear of workstation as shown in the following
diagram. Please fasten it with screws.

2.4 Cooling Fan Installation and Filter Replacing
WS-843A is equipped with a 12cm cooling fan attached to a removable fan filter
on the side of workstation. The following diagram shows how to install the fan.
Please note that the filter should be removed and cleaned at least once a month
to achieve optimum performance. Remove the filter is fast and easy. Please
unfasten the screw then pull out the filter bracket.

2.5 Rack Mounting
WS-843A can be mounted into a 19” rack. The following diagram shows you how
to mount WS-843A into a 19” rack.

2.6 Panel Mounting
WS-843A not only can be mounted into the 19” Rack but also can be mounted
within a panel as shown in the illustration below. Please make sure that the
dimensions of the case fits panel aperture so that your screw holes match with
the mounting bolts on the flange of WS-843A. (Cut out dimension: 436 mm x 306
mm- W x H)

Chapter 3 Maintenance
The following sections describe details of some essential parts of this system unit
that you need to pay special attention to during the maintenance or upgrading
operation.
3.1 Power Supply
Power supply is equipped at the rear of workstation fastened by some screws. So
you need to unfasten all of the screws so as to take it out for maintenance or
upgrading. Please refer to the diagram of section 2.3.
Warning: Whenever you need to take off a part for either maintenance or
upgrading purpose, you should first switch off the power supply and
unplug the power cord.
3.2 Cooling Fan
Please refer to the diagram of section 2.4. You have to open the chassis and
unfasten the screws to take fan out for maintenance.
The filter is suggested being replaced or cleaned at least once a month to achieve
optimum performance. Actual time span for filter replacement depends on the
working environment of the system unit.
Warning: Do not use wet filter to sift out the dirt.
3.3 Disk Drives
WS-843A provides one 5.25" CD-ROM, one 3.5" FDD and one 3.5" HDD. Please
refer to the diagram of section 2.2 to uninstall them.

Appendix D Touch Pad
TP-101 Touch Pad is compatible with the PS/2 mouse. Users have to connect the
external PS/2 mouse cable as the below figure shown. Touch Pad, a pointing
device for computers, detects the position of a finger over a touch-sensitive area.
To move the cursor, users have to lightly slide a finger over the smooth sensor
area. To “click”, gently tap on the surface, is as the application for clicking the left
button of a mouse.

Appendix E User Mode OSD Item Description
Auto-Adjustment
This item will automatically adjust the H/V position, frequency, phase, and black level.
Auto Phase
This item will automatically adjust the sampling.
Brightness
It is used to adjust the brightness of screen. This function will adjust the offset value of ADC. Setting this value too high or too low will destroy the quality of image.
Contrast
It is used to adjust the contrast of screen, this function will adjust the gain value of ADC . Adjust this value too high or too low will destroy the quality of image.

DOS/GFX
It is used to chose VGA input signal that are text mode or graphic mode. ( It is only selectable on resolution of 720/640x400 or 720/640x350 . ) 400 and 350 standard IBM mode have the same Hsync. and Vsync. value , AV-9261 MPU can not differentiate them automatically , user need to adjust them by manual to match proper VGA mode .
H. Position
It is used to adjust horizontal display position of image.
V. Position
It is used to adjust vertical display position of image.
Language
It is used to select the languages using on OSD display. AV-9261 now can support 2 languages on OSD display. English is the default language.

Revert
It is used to reload original parameters from the factory’s OSD data area of the system EEPROM 24c16 device to re-initialize AV-9261 system device. When user adjust OSD data too much and can not see better quality than before , user can select this item and MPU will reload default BIOS setting and re-initialize the system.
Save
It is used to save the parameters into the user OSD adjustment data area of the system EEPROM 24c16 device and close OSD. Whenever a user adjusts any parameters, it is needed to execute this item to save data into EEPROM. And next time power on, the MPU will use the storied data to initialize the AV-9261 system.
Main Menu
Every level of OSD have the item name Main Menu, this item let user leave current level and jump to upper level, or press the Return key.
Exit
Press the EXIT key to exit the OSD menu when the OSD menu is on top of the level.
