Chapter 3 TROUBLESHOOTING
Introduction Who Should Perform Repairs Repair Level Supported Using this Document Obtaining Replacement Parts Troubles hooting Guide
Introduction
This chapter provides information for troubleshooting WMS-2208R and he lping you to isolate a failure to the power adapter, the MailWare flash module, the case fan, the LCD module, the hard disks and the main board. A troubleshooting guide is also provided; it lists possible problems, along with probable causes, and recommended actions on how to correct each problem.
Note: For system manufactured after November 10, 2003, the system firmware is stored at MailWare flash module (DOM) instead of on-board flash. Please be noticed about this change wh en servicing.
Who Should Perform Repairs
Only qualified service personnel should remove and replace any components of WMS-2208R. Repairs to the WMS-2208R are limited to the repair level identified in the following paragraph.
Repair Level Supported
The WMS-2208R has the following replaceable components:
The WMS-2208R main board The front panel assembly, including the LCD module The MailWare flash module (DOM, for system manufactured after November

The hard disk
Using this Document
Failures of the top cover, the front panel assembly are determined by v isually inspecting these components for cracks or deformations and for mechanical failures. Use the troubleshooting guide provided in this chapter to isolate failure to the main board, the MailWare flash module or the system firmware, the LCD module, the power adapter, the case fan, or the hard disks. Once a failure has been isolated, refer to Chapter 4, Disassembly Guide for instructions for removing and replacing a component of the WMS-220 8R.
Obtaining Replacement Parts
IEI Customer Services Department provides technical assistance information and replacement parts. To obtain replacement parts, contact the IEI Customer Services Department or your sales representative. Please refer to parts by the part names and part numbers listed in Chapter 5, Spare Parts.
Troubleshooting Guide
If you encounter a problem that cannot be resolved through a visual inspection, check the following lists for probable causes and recommended actions to take to correct the problem. For a symptom that is not listed here, contact the IEI Customer Services Department or your sales representative.
Power Adapter
Symptom Corrective Action
The system does not power up when applying power.
Make sure the power cable and adapter is attached correctly, and there is power to the AC outlet. Replace the power adapter. If the failure persists, replace the main board.
