ABOUT THE RACK-3200G
The 4U, metal RACK-3200G AT/ATX compatible rackmount industrial chassis is designed to operate reliably in industrial environments where it will be exposed to dust, wide temperature variations, and shocks and vibrations, among other things.

INSTALLATION STEPS
To install the RACK-3200G chassis, the following installation steps must be completed:
Step 1: Unpack the chassis. Step 2: Install the front handles. Step 3: Remove the top cover. Step 4: Install the rear panel serial port, parallel port and PS/2
connectors.
Step 5: Install the PSU. Step 6: Install the backplane. Step 7: Install the CPU card. Step 8: Install the PCI and ISA expansion cards. Step 9: Install the disk drives. Step 10: Front panel cables. Step 11: PSU cable and interface cable connections. Step 12: Cover reinstallation.Step 0:
The installation steps outlined above are described in detail below. Please refer to the relevant section.
STEP 1: UNPACK
The RACK-3200G is shipped in a plastic bag that is placed inside a cardboard box. The accessories are also shipped with the chassis. When you unpack the chassis you must:
Make sure all the items listed in the PACKING LIST section
above are present.
Make sure the chassis has not been damaged in anyway.
STEP 2: FRONT HANDLE INSTALLATION
Two handles are shipped with the RACK-3200G chassis. The handles are installed on the sides, at the front of the chassis. Each handle is secured to the chassis by four retention screws. To install the handles, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Align the retention screw holes on the side of the chassis
with the retention screw holes in the handle.
STEP 3: REMOVE THE TOP COVER
The top cover of the chassis is secured to the chassis with eight retention screws, four on each side. To remove the top cover, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Remove all eight top cover retention screws. Remove four
retention screws from each side of the chassis.

Step 2: Slide the cover backwards and then lift it up gently.

STEP 4: INSTALL THE REAR PANEL SERIAL PORT, PARALLEL PORT AND PS/2 CONNECTORS
The rear panel of the RACK-3200G can accommodate:
o 2 x serial ports o 3 x parallel ports o 1 x PS/2 connector
Step 2: Insert the retention screws.Step 0:

These ports must be installed before any other components are installed. To install these connectors please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Snap off the port covers in accordance with the number
and type of ports you need.

Step 2: To install the connector into the correct location, the
connector must be maneuvered under the elevated surface at the rear of the chassis and correctly aligned with the preformed connector hole.
Step 3: Insert the connector into the corresponding preformed
hole and secure it to the chassis by inserting two retention screws for each connector.

Step 4: Gently pull the ribbon cable connected to the installed
interface under the elevated surfaces at the rear and middle of chassis so that the ribbon cable connector can be easily accessed and inserted into the backplane or the CPU card after the backplane or CPU card has been installed. Step 0:
STEP 5: INSTALL THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT (PSU)
After the rear panel port connectors have been installed, install the PSU. Compatible IEI PSUs are listed in the table above.
NOTE:
RACK-3200G PSU installation is a complicated process. Before you proceed with the installation of the PSU, please read all the installation steps and associated notes listed
below. A user-supplied power supply unit can be secured to the front of the chassis with one internal screw and four retention screws that fasten the PSU to the right side of the chassis. To install the PSU, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Remove the PSU bracket from the chassis. To do this,
please remove both the internal retention screw and the four retention screws from the right side of the chassis.

Step 2: After the cable has been secured beneath the cable
bracket, the cable must be inserted into one of the holes at the bottom of the front frame of the PSU bracket. To do this, follow the steps below:
Step 3: Remove the retention screws from the side of the front
frame.
Step 4: Loosen the retention screws at the top of the frame
halfway.
Step 5: Swing the front flap open. Step 6: Run the cable through one of the holes at the bottom of
the frame. (The hole on the right side is recommended)
Step 7: Fully tighten the top two retention screws and reinsert
the two retention screws previously removed from the side of the front frame.

Step 8: Insert the PSU into the bracket. Make sure the PSU
power switch, the PSU cable plug and the PSU fan are facing the front of the bracket.

Step 10: Place the PSU bracket with the installed PSU back into
the chassis.

Step 11: Run the PSU cables beneath the center divider in the
middle of the chassis. A dedicated space for the cables is available.
Step 9: Next, secure the PSU to the PSU bracket. To do this,
insert four retention screws into the front of the PSU and the PSU bracket and two screws into the side of the PSU and the PSU bracket.

Step 12: Reinsert the PSU bracket retention screws into the
chassis to secure the PSU bracket to the chassis.
Step 13: Plug the power cable into the PSU socket. Step 0:
STEP 6: BACKPLANE INSTALLATION
The IEI PCI-19S-RS backplane is compatible with the RACK-3200G. The specifications of the backplane are shown below.
o SBC Type: PICMG 1.0 o PCI: 4 o ISA: 14 o PSU Connector: AT/ATX
To install the backplane please follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Insert the 15 copper pillars that came with your chassis
at the rear of the chassis. The backplane is mounted onto the pillars.

Step 4: After the backplane has been secured to the chassis,
connect the power cable to the backplane. Step 0:
STEP 7: CPU CARD INSTALLATION
After the backplane has been installed, the CPU card can be installed onto the backplane.
NOTE:
Before you install your CPU card into the chassis, make sure
that the CPU card has been properly configured as it will be
difficult to configure the CPU card when it is installed on the
backplane.
To install the CPU card please follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Remove the slot cover at the back of the chassis. To do
this, remove the slot cover retention screw at the top of the slot cover.

Step 2: Mount the backplane onto the copper pillars ensuring
that the backplane retention screw holes are properly aligned with the screw holes in the copper pillars.
Step 3: Once the backplane is properly aligned with the retention
screw holes, secure the backplane to the chassis with 15 retention screws.

Step 2: Slide the CPU card into the sockets on the backplane
reserved for the CPU card. Make sure the back edge of the CPU card slots into the corresponding card guide located behind the cooling fans.

Step 2: Both drive brackets are secured to the chassis with
two retention screws. Remove the retention screws from the bracket in which you wish to install the 5.25” optical drives.

Step 3: Secure the CPU card to the chassis by reinserting the
retention screw where the slot cover retention screw was inserted. Step 0:
STEP 8: PCI/ISA EXPANSION CARD INSTALLATION
The RACK-3200G chassis can accommodate up to 20 PCI/ISA expansion cards. If you wish to install a PCI expansion card or an ISA expansion card please follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Remove the slot cover at the back of the chassis. To do
this, remove the slot cover retention screw at the top of the slot cover.
Step 2: Slide the ISA or PCI expansion card into the backplane
socket reserved for the ISA and PCI expansion cards.
Step 3: Secure the expansion card to the chassis by reinserting
the retention screw where the slot cover retention screw was inserted. Step 0:
STEP 9: DISK DRIVES INSTALLATION
STEP 9.1: DRIVE BRACKET REMOVAL
All the drives are installed into two drive brackets at the front of the chassis. Both drive brackets can hold three 5.25” optical drives. The drive bracket on the right can also hold a single 3.5” floppy disk installed on the top. Before the drives can be installed, these drive brackets must be removed from the chassis.
To remove the drive bracket, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Remove the drive bracket retention screw(s) from the
front panel. The right side drive bracket has two front panel retention screws. The left side drive bracket has one front panel retention screw.

NOTE:
The retention screws attaching the disk drive brackets to the bottom of the chassis may be difficult to see. One set of retention screws is between the two disk drive brackets and the other set of retention screws is between the drive bracket and the left side of the chassis.
STEP 9.2: FDD INSTALLATION
The RACK-3200G chassis can support a single FDD installed at the top of the right disk drive bracket. To install an FDD please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Remove the drive bracket on the right side, to do this,
please refer to S
Step 2: Remove the FDD bracket cover by removing the two
retention screws that are on the sides of the FDD bracket.

STEP 9.3: OPTICAL DRIVE INSTALLATION
The RACK-3200G chassis can support up to six 5.25” optical drives, three in each drive bracket. To install an optical drive please follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Select the drive bay in which you will install the optical
drive.
Step 2: Remove the front metal cover from the front of the
selected drive bay by removing the four retention screws (two on each side) securing the front cover to the drive bracket.

Step 1: Position the HDD onto the HDD bracket. Make sure the
PCB board of the HDD faces the bottom of the bracket and the 4-pin power connector and the IDE/SATA connector are facing the rear of the chassis.
Step 2: Insert four retention screws into the bottom of the HDD
bracket.

Step 3: Insert the HDD bracket with the installed HDD into the
drive bracket making sure the 4-pin HDD power connector and IDE/SATA interface connector both face the rear of the chassis.

Step 3: Slide the 5.25” optical drive into the selected drive bay.
Make sure the drive is upright and both the 4-pin power connector and the IDE/SATA drive interface connector are at the rear of the drive bay.
Step 4: Insert four retention screws, two on each side to
secure the 5.25” optical drive. Step 0:
STEP 9.4: HDD INSTALLATION
The RACK-3200G chassis can support up to six 3.5” HDD s, three in each drive bracket.
Step 4: Secure the HDD bracket to the drive bracket by
inserting four retention screws into the sides of the chassis (two on each side).Step 0:

STEP 9.5: DRIVE BRACKET REINSTALLATION
After the disk drives have been properly installed into the drive brackets, reinstall the drive brackets into the chassis. To reinstall the drive brackets into the chassis please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Place the main drive bracket into the chassis making
sure the front of the 5.25” optical drives are facing out of the chassis and the 4-pin drive power connectors and IDE/SATA interface connectors are all facing the rear of the chassis.
NOTE:
HDD drives are not compatible with the size of the drive bays in the drive bracket. To be installed they must first be mounted on se
arately purchased HDD brackets. The HDD

STEP 10: FRONT PANEL CABLES
The RACK-3200G has the following components accessible at the front.
o 1 x Power LED o 1 x HDD LED o 1 x Power switch
o 1 x Reset button These components are all connected to the CPU card with cables. To correctly connect these cables, please refer to the technical documentation that came with your CPU card. The connectors that are provided with the chassis are listed below.

STEP 11: PSU CABLE AND INTERFACE CABLE CONNECTIONS
To connect the power and ribbon cables please follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Connect the PSU cables from the PSU to the full-size
CPU card, HDD, FDD, cooling fans and optical drives power connector

Step 4: Pull the fan brac ket out of the chassis and remove the
two retention screws on the upper right and the lower left corners of the fan that must be replaced.

Step 5: Replace the fan and secure the new fan to the bracket
with the two previously removed retention screws.
Step 6: Slide the fan bracket back into the chassis and secure
the fan bracket to the chassis with the three previously removed retention screws. Step 0:
Fan Filter Replacement
To replace the fan filter, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Open the front panel.
Step 2: The drive interface connectors must be connected to the
CPU card. Step 0:Step 0:
STEP 12: COVER REINSTALLATION
After you have completed the above procedures, the cover can be reinstalled. To do this, slide the cover back over the chassis and reinsert the eight, previously removed retention screws
Chassis Maintenance Fan Replacement
NOTE:
Please ensure the power of the computer is switched off before fan replacement procedure.
There are four 8 cm cooling fans inside the RACK-3200G chassis. To replace the fan, please follow the steps below.

Step 3: Replace the fan filter pad. Step 4: Put the fan filter bracket back Step 5: Reinsert the previously removed thumbscrews.

Cabinet Installation
Supporting rails, rack trays, or slide rails can be implemented using the mounting holes on the sides of the chassis. The eight mounting holes in the two handles on the sides of the chassis are shown below.

If the system is running critical applications, please find the appropriate time to backup data and properly shut down the system.
