Chapter 3 TROUBLESHOOTING
Introduction Who Should Perform Repairs Repair Level Supported Using this Document Obtaining Replacement Parts Troubleshooting Guide
Introduction
This chapter provides information for troubleshooting NAS-4300S and helping you to isolate a failure to the power supply, the case fan, the CPU cooler, th e LCD module, the hard disks, the Ethernet switch board, and the main board. A troubleshooting guide is also provided; it lists possible problems, along with probable causes, and recommended actions on how to correct ea ch problem.
Who Should Perform Repairs
Only qualified service personnel should remove and replace any components of NAS-4300S. Repairs to the NAS-4300S are limited to the rep air level identified in the following paragraph.
Repair Level Supported
The NAS-4300S has the follo wing repl aceable components:
The NAS-4300S main board The backplane The Ethernet switch board The LCD module assembly, including the LCD module and its plastic cover The top cover The case fan The CPU cooler The power supply

The drive tray The hard disk
Using this Document
Failures of the top cover, the drive tray and the LCD module assembly are determined by visually inspecting these components for cracks or deformations and for mechanical failures. The LCD module and its plastic cover are replaced together as the LCD module assembl y. Use the troubleshooting guide provided in this chapter to isolate failure to the main board, the backplane, the Ethernet switch board, the LCD module, the power supply, the CPU cooler, the case fan, or the hard disks. Once a failure has been isolated, refer to Chapter 4, Disassembly Guide for instructions for removing and replacing a component of the NAS-4300S.
Obtaining Replacement Parts
IEI Customer Services Department provides technical assistance information and replacement parts. To obtain replacement parts, contact the IEI Customer Services Department or your sales representative. Please refer to parts by the part names and part numbers listed in Chapter 5, Spare Parts.
Troubleshooting Guide
If you encounter a problem that cannot be resolved through a visual inspection, check the following lists for probable causes and recommended actions to take to correct the problem. For a symptom that is not listed here, contact the IEI Customer Services Department or your sales representative.
Power Supply
Symptom Corrective Action
The power supply makes an audible alarm and the red LED on the power supply module is illuminated.
The error LED on the front panel lights up red and the LCD module shows below error message: “POWER FAILED OR REMOVED”
The event logs show below error messages: “power failed or removed”
Replace the failed power supply.

Overview Hard Drive Installation Procedure
Overview
The NAS-4300S has eight hot- swap drive ba ys, and can i nstall up to ei ght 3.5” IDE hard disk drives. To make the system ready for access, install the hard drives to the NAS-4300S. Then refer to t he chapter 9, “Factor y Default Setup”, for steps to configure the installed hard drives into one disk volume.
Caution: Be sure to use the drive tray for NAS-4300S, failed to do so will damage the system.
For a list of verified hard drive models, please refer to Appendix A. “Hard Drive Compatibility List.” We strongly recommend customers to use only th e tested har
d drive models. IEI cannot guarantee syst em stabilit y for users who install
driv
es not specified on this list.
Hard Drive Installation Procedure
To use the NAS-4300S, at least one hard disk should be installed. Before installing the hard drives, please make sure the system is off and the power cord has been disconnected. Follow below steps to install the hard drives to the NAS-4300S.
