Chapter 3 TROUBLESHOOTING
Introduction Who Should Perform Repairs Repair Level Supported Using this Document Obtaining Replacement Parts Troubleshooting Guide
Introduction
This chapter provides information for troubleshooting NAS-4020 and helping you to isolate a failure to the power supply, the case fan, the cooler, the LCD module, the hard disks, the main board and the backplane. A troubleshooting guide is also provided; it lists possible problems, along with probable causes, and recommended actions on how to correct each problem.
Who Should Perform Repairs
Only qualified service personnel should remove and replace any components of NAS-4020. Repairs to the NAS-4020 are limited to the repair level identified in the following paragraph.
Repair Level Supported
The NAS-4020 has the followi ng replaceable compone nts:
The NAS-4020 main board The NAS-4020 backplane The LCD module The front panel assembly The front cover The top cover The case fan The power supply

The drive tray The cooler The hard disk
Using this Document
Failures of the top cover, the drive tray, the front cover and the front panel assembly are determined by visually inspecting these components for cracks or deformations and for mechanical failures. Use the troubleshooting guide provided in this chapter to isolate failure to the main board, the backplane, the LCD module, the power supply, the case fan, the cooler, or the hard disks. Once a failure has been isolated, refer to Chapter 4, Disassembly Guide for instructions for removing and replacing a component of the NAS-4020.
Obtaining Replacement Parts
IEI Customer Services Department provides technical assistance information and replacement parts. To obtain replacement parts, contact the IEI Customer Services Department or your sales representative. Please refer to parts by the part names and part numbers listed in Chapter 5, Spare Parts.
Troubleshooting Guide
If you encounter a problem that cannot be resolved through a visual inspection, check the following lists for probable causes and recommended actions to take to correct the problem. For a symptom that is not listed here, contact the IEI Customer Services Department or your sales representative.
Power Supply
Symptom Corrective Action
The power supply makes an audible alarm and the red LED on the power supply module is illuminated.
The error LED on the front panel lights up red and the LCD module shows below error message: “POWER FAILED OR REMOVED”
The event logs show below error messages: “power failed or removed”

Chapter 8 HARD DISK INSTALLATION
Overview Hard Drive Installation Procedure
Overview
The NAS-4020 has four hot-swap drive bays, and can install up to four 3.5” IDE hard disk drives. To make the system ready for access, install the hard d rives to the NAS-4020. Then refer to the chapter 9, “Fac tory Default Setup”, for steps to configure the installed hard drives into one disk volume.
Caution: Be sure to use the drive tray for NAS-4020, failed to do so will damage the system.
For a list of verified hard drive models, please refer to Appendix A. “Hard Drive Compatibility List.” We strongly recommend customers to use only th e tested hard drive models. IEI cannot guarantee system stability for users who install drives not specified on this list.
Hard Drive Installation Procedure
To use the NAS-4020, at least one hard disk should be installed. Before installing the hard drives, please make sure the system is off a nd the power cord has been disconnected. Follow below steps to i nstall the hard drive s to the NAS-40 20.
