Based on the TI Sitara™ AM3715 CPU and pre-installed with Android 4.1.2 operating
system, the MODAT-335A Field Service Terminal meets the needs of all mobile workforces.
The MODAT-335A packs advanced data acquisition technologies such as RFID, 1D/2D
barcode reading, and a 3-megapixel CMOS camera into a compact, ergonomic design.
Your staff is connected to real-time, online data through Wi-Fi connectivity while the
Bluetooth function allows devices such as headsets and thermal printers to be paired with
the MODAT-335A, increasing productivity on the go.

To unpack the MODAT-335A, follow the steps below:
WARNING!
Only remove the protective plastic cover stuck to the front screen after
installation. The plastic layer protects the monitor surface during
installation process.
Step 1: Cut the sealing tape. Only cut deep enough to cut the tape.
Step 2: Open the box.
Step 3: Lift out the device.
Step 4: Remove all the peripheral parts from the box. Step 0:

3.1 Anti-static Precautions
WARNING:
Failure to take ESD precautions during the maintenance of the
MODAT-335A may result in permanent damage to the MODAT-335A
and severe injury to the user.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can cause serious damage to electronic components,
including the MODAT-335A. Dry climates are especially susceptible to ESD. It is therefore
critical that whenever the MODAT-335A is accessed internally, or any other electrical
component is handled, the following anti-static precautions are strictly adhered to.
Wear an anti-static wristband: - Wearing a simple anti-static wristband can
help to prevent ESD from damaging the board.
Self-grounding: - Before handling the board touch any grounded conducting
material. During the time the board is handled, frequently touch any
conducting materials that are connected to the ground.
Use an anti-static pad: - When configuring the MODAT-335A, place it on an
antic-static pad. This reduces the possibility of ESD damaging the
MODAT-335A.
Only handle the edges of the PCB: - When handling the PCB, hold the PCB
by the edges.
3.2 Installation Precautions
When installing the MODAT-335A, please follow the precautions listed below:
Power turned off: When installing the MODAT-335A, make sure the power is
off. Failing to turn off the power may cause severe injury to the body and/or
damage to the system.
Certified Engineers: Only certified engineers should install and modify
onboard functionalities.

Anti-static Discharge : If a user open the rear panel of the MODAT-335A, to
configure the jumpers or plug in added peripheral devices, ground themselves
first and wear and anti-static wristband.
3.3 Charging the System
NOTE:
Before using the MODAT-335A for the first time, the battery must be
charged for at least 4 hours. After that, the battery may be charged as
needed.

CAUTION:
The recommended environment temperature when charging the
system is 0°C ~ +45°C.
To start using the MODAT-335A, the user must charge the MODAT-335A by the power
adapter. To charge the MODAT-335A, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Open the protective rubber cover to expose the Mini USB port.
Step 2: Connect the Mini USB plug of the USB cable to the Mini USB port on the left side
panel of the MODAT-335A (

Step 3: Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB connector of the power
adapter (
Then plug the power adapter to a power source.

Step 4: The battery LED lights up in orange to indicate that the battery is charging
Figure 3-3). When the battery is fully charged, the battery LED turns green.

3.3.1 Using the Optional Cradle

To charge the MODAT-335A using the optional charging cradle, follow the steps below.
Step 1: Connect the Mini USB plug of the USB cable to the rear side of the charging
cradle (

Step 2: Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB connector of the power
adapter (

Step 3: Insert the MODAT-335A into the cradle to start charging the battery (Figure 3-5).

3.4 Installing the Optional Barcode Trigger Grip
The optional barcode trigger grip allows users to easily hold the MODAT-335A when
scanning barcodes. Please follow the steps below to install the optional item.
Step 1: Place the MODAT-335A on a flat surface, facing the front panel to it.
Step 2: Attach the barcode trigger grip to the MODAT-335A, aligning with the four screw
holes (

retention screws (

Step 4: With the barcode trigger grip, the user can easily hold the MODAT-335A when
scanning barcodes.

3.5 I/O Connectors
The I/O connectors on the left panel are protected by rubber covers. Open the rubber
cover before connecting any peripheral devices to the MODAT-335A.
3.5.1 Headset Jack
The headset jack on the left panel enables the MODAT-335A to be connected to the
supplied headset.
3.5.2 Mini USB Client Connector
The MODAT-335A is equipped with a Mini USB client connector that allows connection to a
computer. To connect the MODAT-335A to a computer, please follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Locate the Mini USB client connector. The location of the Mini USB client
connector is shown in

the connected computer to recognize the MODAT-335A and assign it a drive

3.6.1 RS-232 Serial Port
The MODAT-335A docking cable has a male DB-9 connector that provides connection to
an RS-232 serial device. Follow the steps below to connect a serial device to the
MODAT-335A.
Step 1: Locate the DB-9 connector. The location of the DB-9 connector is shown in
42Figure 3-11.

3.6.2 USB Client Plug
The USB client plug of the docking cable connects the MODAT-335A to a computer.
Follow the steps below to connect the MODAT-335A to a computer.
Step 1: Align the connectors. Align the USB client plug of the docking cable with one
of the USB connector on the computer.

Step 2: Once aligned, gently insert the USB plug into the USB connector of the
computer.

3.6.3 USB Host Connector
The USB host connector of the docking cable provides an extra connection to a USB 2.0
or USB 1.1 device. Follow the steps below to connect a USB device to the MODAT-335A.
Step 1: Align the connectors. Align the USB device connector with the USB host
connector on the docking cable.
Step 2: Insert the device connector. Once aligned, gently insert the USB device
connector into the USB host connector.

connection mode (

charged for at least 4 hours. After that, the battery may be charged as
needed.

3.8 Resetting the System
CAUTION:
Resetting the MODAT-335A may result in losing unsaved data. Before
resetting the MODAT-335A, remember to backup unsaved data.
To reset the MODAT-335A, insert the tip of the stylus or a ballpoint pen into the reset
button (
Figure 3-18). The MODAT-335A will shut down and restart after a few seconds.

4.1 Function Buttons
The MODAT-335A has several function buttons on the system front panel and the Android
home screen to control the system. The function buttons are shown in

4.2 Home Screen
The MODAT-335A has multiple home screens allowing users to customize the screen with
widgets, apps, folders and shortcuts. Swipe left or right to switch between home screens.
To add shortcuts and widgets on the home screen, simply long press an app/widget icon
in the Launcher. When it vibrates, drag app/widget to the home screen.
The items on the home screen can be moved and deleted. Long press an item on the
home screen. When it vibrates, drag it where you want. To trash the item on the desktop,
drag it to the delete icon. Release the icon when it turns red.

4.3 Settings
The Settings menu allows configuration to the MODAT-335A, such as Wi-Fi, volume,
display brightness, etc. To enter the Settings menu, tap Settings on the launcher page.
4.3.1 WIRELESS & NETWORKS

In the WIRELESS & NETWORKS field, the user can turn on/off the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
functions, and configure the network settings.
Wi-Fi:

Bluetooth:
Allows the user to turn on or off the Bluetooth function. When the Bluetooth
function is turned on, tap this item to manage the Bluetooth connections.
Ethernet proxy settings:
Configures the Ethernet proxy settings.

A.1 Safety Precautions
Please follow the safety precautions outlined in the sections that follow:
A.1.1 General Safety Precautions
Please ensure the following safety precautions are adhered to at all times.
Follow the electrostatic precautions outlined below whenever the
MODAT-335A is opened.
Make sure the power is turned off and the power cord is disco nnected
whenever the MODAT-335A is being installed, moved or modified.
Do not apply voltage levels that exceed the specified voltage range.
Doing so may cause fire and/or an electrical shock.
Electric shocks can occur if the MODAT-335A chassis is opened when the
MODAT-335A is running.
Do not drop or insert any objects into the ventilation openings of the
MODAT-335A.
If considerable amounts of dust, water, or fluids enter the MODA T-335A,
turn off the power supply immediately, unplug the power cord, and contact the
MODAT-335A vendor.
DO NOT:
o Drop the MODAT-335A against a hard surface.
o Strike or exert excessive force onto the LCD panel.
o Touch the LCD panel with a sharp object
o Use in a site where the ambient temperature exceeds the rated

A.1.2 Anti-static Precautions
WARNING:
Failure to take ESD precautions during the installation of the
MODAT-335A may result in permanent damage to the MODAT-335A
and severe injury to the user.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can cause serious damage to electronic components,
including the MODAT-335A. Dry climates are especially susceptible to ESD. It is therefore
critical that whenever the MODAT-335A is opened and any of the electrical components
are handled, the following anti-static precautions are strictly adhered to.
Wear an anti-static wristband: Wearing a simple anti-static wristband can

help to prevent ESD from damaging any electrical component.
Self-grounding: Before handling any electrical component, touch any
grounded conducting material. During the time the electrical component is
handled, frequently touch any conducting materials that are connected to the
ground.
Use an anti-static pad: When configuring or working with an electrical
component, place it on an antic-static pad. This reduces the possibility of ESD
damage.
Only handle the edges of the electrical component: When handling the
electrical component, hold the electrical component by its edges.

A.2.1 Maintenance and Cleaning
Prior to cleaning any part or component of the MODAT-335A, please read the details

Except for the LCD panel, never spray or squirt liquids directly onto any other
components. To clean the LCD panel, gently wipe it with a piece of soft dry
cloth or a slightly moistened cloth.
The interior of the MODAT-335A does not require cleaning. Keep fluids away
from the MODAT-335A interior.
Be cautious of all small removable components when vacuuming the
MODAT-335A.
Turn the MODAT-335A off before cleaning.
Never drop any objects or liquids through the openings of the MODAT-335A.
Be cautious of any possible allergic reactions to solvents or chemicals used
when cleaning the MODAT-335A.
Avoid eating, drinking and smoking within vicinity of the MODAT-335A.

Some components in the MODAT-335A may only be cleaned using a product specifically
designed for the purpose. In such case, the product will be explicitly mentioned in the
cleaning tips. Below is a list of items to use when cleaning the MODAT-335A.
Cloth – Although paper towels or tissues can be used, a soft, clean piece of
cloth is recommended when cleaning the MODAT-335A.
Water or rubbing alcohol – A cloth moistened with water or rubbing alcohol
can be used to clean the MODAT-335A.
Using solvents – The use of solvents is not recommended when cleaning the
MODAT-335A as they may damage the plastic parts.
Vacuum cleaner – Using a vacuum specifically designed for computers is
one of the best methods of cleaning the MODAT-335A. Dust and dirt can
restrict the airflow in the MODAT-335A and cause its circuitry to corrode.

Cotton swabs - Cotton swaps moistened with rubbing alcohol or water are
excellent tools for wiping hard to reach areas.
Foam swabs - Whenever possible, it is best to use lint free swabs such as
