Failure to take ESD precautions during the installation of the
IOVU-571N may result in permanent damage to the IOVU-571N and
severe injury to the user.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can cause serious damage to electronic components,
including the IOVU-571N. Dry climates are especially susceptible to ESD. It is therefore
critical that whenever the IOVU-571N, or any other electrical component is handled, the
following anti-static precautions are strictly adhered to.
Wear an anti-static wristband: Wearing a simple an ti-static wristband can
help to prevent ESD from damaging the board.
Self-grounding: Before handling the board touch any grounded conducting
material. During the time the board is handled, frequently touch any
conducting materials that are connected to the ground.
Use an anti-static pad: When configuring the IOVU-571N, place it on an
antic-static pad. This reduces the possibility of ESD damaging the
IOVU-571N.
Only handle the edges of the PCB: When handling the PCB, hold the PCB
by the edges.
3.2 Unpacking Precautions
When the IOVU-571N is unpacked, please do the following:
Follow the anti-static precautions outlined in Section
Make sure the packing box is facing upwards so the IOVU-571N does not fall
out of the box.
Make sure all the items listed below are included.

IOVU-571N RISC-based Panel PC
4.1 Installation Precautions
When installing the IOVU-571N, please follow the precautions listed below:
Read the user manual: The user manual provides a complete description of
the IOVU-571N, installation instructions and configuration options.
DANGER! Disconnect Power: Power to the IOVU-571N must be
disconnected during the installation pro cess, or before any attempt is m ade to
access the rear panel. Electric shock and personal injury might occur if the
rear panel of the IOVU-571N is opened while the power cord is still conne cted
to an electrical outlet.
Qualified Personnel: The IOVU-571N must be instal led and operat ed only by
trained and qualified personnel. Maintenance, upgrades, or repairs may only
be carried out by qualified personnel who are familiar with the associated
dangers.
Grounding: The IOVU-571N should be properly grounded. The volt age feeds
must not be overloaded. Adjust the cabling and provide external overcharge
protection per the electrical values indicated on the label attached to the back
of the IOVU-571N.
4.2 Pre-installation Preparation
Before installing the IOVU-571N, make sure the following tools are on hand:
Philips (crosshead) screwdriver: All the retention screws on the system are
Philips screws.
4.3 Mounting the System
WARNING!
When mounting the IOVU-571N flat panel PC onto an arm, onto the
wall or onto a panel, it is better to have more than one person to help
with the installation to make sure the IOVU-571N does not fall down
and get damaged.
Page 15
Page 24
The four methods of mounting the IOVU-571N are:
Wall mounting
Arm mounting
Stand mounting
The four mounting methods are fully described below.
4.3.1 Wall Mounting
To mount the IOVU-571N flat panel PC onto a wall, please follow the steps belo w.
Step 1: Select the location on the wall for the wall-mounting bracket.
Step 2: Carefully mark the locations of the four screw holes in the bracket on the wall.
Step 3: Drill four pilot holes at the marked locations on the wall for the bracket retention

Page 25
IOVU-571N RISC-based Panel PC
Step 6: Insert the four monitor mounting screws provided in the wall mounting kit into the
four screw holes on the real panel of the IOVU-571N and tighten until the screw
shank is secured against the rear panel (
Step 7: Align the mounting screws on the monitor rear panel with the mounting holes on
the bracket.
Step 8: Carefully insert the screws through the holes and gently pull the monitor
downwards until the monitor rests securely in the slotted holes (
Ensure that all four of the mounting screws fit snuggly into their respective
slotted holes.
Figure 4-2).
Figure 4-2).
NOTE:
In the diagram below the bracket is already installed on the wall.

4.3.2 Arm Mounting
The IOVU-571N is VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) compliant and can be
mounted on an arm with a 75 mm interface pad. To mount the IOVU-571N on an arm,
please follow the steps below.
Step 1: The arm is a separately purchased item. Please correctly mount the arm onto
the surface it uses as a base. To do this, refer to the installation documentation
that came with the mounting arm.
NOTE:
Page 18
When purchasing the arm please ensure that it is VESA compliant and
that the arm has a 75 mm interface pad. If the mounting arm is not
VESA compliant it cannot be used to support the IOVU-571N.
Page 27
IOVU-571N RISC-based Panel PC
Step 2: Once the mounting arm has been firmly attached to its surface, lift the
IOVU-571N onto the interface pad of the mounting arm.
Step 3: Align the retention screw holes on the mounting arm interface with those in the
IOVU-571N. The IOVU-571N arm mount retention screw holes are shown in
Figure 4-4.
Figure 4-4: Arm Mount Retention Screw Holes
Step 4: Secure the IOVU-571N to the interface pad by inserting four retention screws
through the mounting arm interface pad and into the IOVU-571N.
4.3.3 Stand Mounting
The IOVU-571N has Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) standard mounting
holes tapped into the rear panel. The monitor stand mounting plate has a matching VESA
hole pattern. To mount the IOVU onto a stand, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Line up the threaded holes on the monitor rear p anel with the screw hole s on the
monitor stand mounting plate.
Step 2: Secure the monitor to the stand with the supplied retention screws (
Step 0:
Figure 4-5).

LCD
Audio Codec 97 (AC’97) refers to a codec standard developed by Intel®
in 1997.
CompactFlash® is a solid-state storage device. CompactFlash® d evices
use flash memory in a standard size enclosure. Type II is thicker than
Type I, but a Type II slot can support both types.
Complimentary metal-oxide-conductor is an integrated circuit used in
chips like static RAM and microprocessors.
COM refers to serial ports. Serial ports offer serial communication to
expansion devices. The serial port on a person al computer is usually a
male DB-9 connector.
The digital inputs and digital outputs are general control signals that
control the on/off circuit of external devices or TTL devices. Data can be
read or written to the selected address to enable the DIO functions.
Liquid crystal display (LCD) is a flat, low-power display device that
consists of two polarizing plates with a liquid crystal panel in between.

VGA
Low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) is a dual-wire, high-speed
differential electrical signaling system commonly used to connect LCD
displays to a computer.
The Power-on Self Test (POST) is the pre-boot actions the system
performs when the system is turned-on.
Random Access Memory (RAM) is volatile memory that loses data when
power is lost. RAM has very fast data transfer rates compared to other
storage like hard drives.
The Universal Host Controller Interface (UHCI) specification is a
register-level interface description for USB 1.1 Host Controllers.
The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an external bus standard for
interfacing devices. USB 1.1 supports 12 Mb/s dat a transfer rates and
USB 2.0 supports 480 Mb/s data transfer rates.
The Video Graphics Array (VGA) is a graphics display system developed

Certified as RoHS Compliant Under 2002/95/EC Without
Mercury
The details provided in this appendix are to ensure that the product is compliant with the
Peoples Republic of China (China) RoHS standards. The table below acknowledges the
presences of small quantities of certain materials in the product, and is appli cable to China
RoHS only.
A label will be placed on each product to indicate the estimated “Environmentally Friendly
Use Period” (EFUP). This is an estimate of the number of years that these substances
would “not leak out or undergo abrupt change.” This product may contain replaceable
sub-assemblies/components which have a shorter EFUP such as batteries and lamps.
These components will be separately marked.
Please refer to the table on the next page.
