AFL M Series LCD Monitor
1.1 AFL M Series LCD Monitor Overview
The AFL series industrial monitor is the latest member of IEI’s line of sophisticated LCD
designs, and it has been improved to be RoHS compliant. The AFL series is designed to
fit industrial automation, or any other applications that require minimum installation
space and flexible configuration. The flat front panel provides IP 64 protection, which
effectively wards off dust and water. Flexible analog or digital interfaces are provided for
ease of connection with a management computer. Resistive type touch panels are
optional. If remote/non-attentive control is preferred, RS-232 or USB interfaces can be
used with customized adapter cables.
1.1.1 Added Features
The following features have been added to the Revision 11 models described in this
manual:
7” to 12.1” models all have both RS-232 and USB touch screen options
integrated into a single system.
15” – 19” have both USB touch screen models and RS-232 touch screen
models.
New firmware for the IEI smartOSD function is integrated into all revision 11
(and above) AFOLUX monitors in the AFOLUX series.
1.1.2 Standard Features
Some of the features of the AFL series industrial monitor include:
7”/8.4”/10.4”/12.1”/15”/17”/19” TFT LCD
Picture in Picture (PiP) support
Fully functional OSD remote control
Built-in speakers
Multiple input interfaces including

1.1.3 IEI smartOSD
IEI smartOSD is a proprietary On-Screen-Display (OSD) software solution from IEI that
enables easy monitor setting adjustments in a Windows environment. IEI smartOSD
delivers excellent performance and provides more flexibility for adjusting the monitor than
the typical OSD hardware solutions. smartOSD also allows monitor settings such as
brightness, contrast, screen position, size and color gain to be read and changed over a

normal video cable (VGA or DVI).
1.1.4 Model Variations
The AFL Series has sixteen models variations listed in Table 1-1 .

4.3 AV-9962 On-board Jumpers
NOTE:
A jumper is a metal bridge used to close an
electrical circuit. It consists of two or three metal
pins and a small metal clip (often protected by a
lastic cover) that slides over the pins to
connect them. To CLOSE/SHORT a jumper
means connecting the pins of the jumper with
the plastic clip and to OPEN a jumper means
removing the plastic clip from a jumper.
The AV-9962 has two on-board jumpers ( Table 4-3).
