Description
1. Description
1.1. General Information
By purchasing this system you have acquired a modern and effi cient heating system. Ongoing qua- lity controls and improvements as well as functional checks at the plant guarantee you technically perfect equipment.
Please read through this documentation carefully. It contains important information for correct installation and safe and economical operation of the system.
Safety instructions:
Installation and maintenance work can be hazardous due to high system pressure, high temperatures and live parts and may only be operated by specialist staff. Heat pumps may only be installed by competent specialist staff and commissioned by a customer service company trained to do so by IDM-Energiesysteme GmbH. When working on the heat pump, the system must be deactivated and secured against reactivation. In addition, all safety instructions in the relevant documentation, stickers on the heat pump itself and all other applicable safety regulations must be observed.
Transport:
During transport, the heat pump must never be inclined more than 30°. The heat pump must not be transported on the connection fi ttings. The transport packaging may only be removed if the heat pump is located at its installation location.
Sound emission:
TERRA heat pumps are very quiet in operation thanks to their design. It is however important that the site of the heater is situated as far as possible from noisesensitive living areas. A noise-insulating door should be fi tted door.
Construction drying and screed heating
The heat pump is not designed for the increased heat requirements when drying out construction work or heating plaster or screed. This must be covered by equipment to be provided by the customer if required.
Servicing and maintenance:
Regular maintenance as well as checking and servicing of all system components guarantee its safe and economical operation in the long term. To achieve this, we recommend a maintenance contract with the relevant customer service company.
Cleaning:
If necessary, the TERRA heat pump can be cleaned with a damp cloth. The use of cleaning agents is not recommended.
Installing additional components:
The installation of additional components which have not been tested with the equipment may impair function. No liability is accepted and the guarantee becomes void in the event of damage caused for this reason.
Standards and directives:
Note for the installation of the heatpump follow all effective national and international piping- and installation rules same as rules for accident prevention and safety regulations when installing pipeline systems and electrical components and equipment as well as the instructions of this Installation instruction.

Description
1.2. Description
The TERRA CL is an air-water heat pump with suction gas cooled scroll compressor with large multi-row Al/ Cu fi nned evaporator. A special speed-controlled radial fan means that large ow rates can be achieved at low speeds. A plate heat exchanger is used as the condenser . The machine frame consists of a steel-reinforced plastic profi le. The cover panels are foam-insulated. This means that the casing is completely protected from cold bridges and has excellent sound insulation.
The heating controller is a modern controller that ful ls all the functions of standard heating regulation.
The heat pump has a compact design, the evaporator is ready-fi tted in the top of the heat pump casing. The heat pump is fi lled with refrigerant and is checked in the factory before shipping for reliable functioning.
1.3. Application range
For monovalent heating and cooling of detached and semi-detached houses under appropriate environmental conditions. The building must be equipped with low-temperature heating (e.g. underfl oor heating, wall heating, low-temperature radiator heating).
TERRA CL heat pumps work using the R407C safety refrigerant which, when correctly mounted and commissioned, circulates in a closed circuit. This minimises its environmental impact.

3. Design
The dimensioning of an air/water heat pump should be such that the bivalence point is between -3 and
-10 °C. This will help ensure that more than 90° of the annual heating requirement is covered by the heat pump.
The maximum heating output of a building is determined in the design, including its water consumption requirement.
In addition, the standard outside temperature is required. This is determined by geographical location and can be obtained from various institutions.
Example:
Single-family house in Germany 4 persons
Service water requirement: 4 x 0.25 kW = 1 kW Heating output requirement: 16 kW Standard - outside temperature Germany: - 16 °C Off-period factor: 1.1
Heating output required:
(Service water consumption required + heating output required) x off-period factor = 18.7 kW

Interior installation
5. Interior installation
5.1. Installation Instructions
Interior installation of the heat pump is recommended. This means that the work involved in frost protection and condensation run-off heating can be avoided. It also means that the inlet air / outlet air can be conveyed to the heat pump with the least possible heat losses. Various installation options are described in detail in the following chapters.
All components of the heat pump are insulated so that no condensation is formed on the external parts even at outlet air temperatures of -20°C. However, it is still advisable to air the room regularly.
The heat pump is decoupled via vibration dampers. The installation location should consist of a solid base.
5.2. Heating Connection
A fl exible hose set is included as standard for heating connections. See technical data for appropriate connection sizes for specifi c machines. It is advisable to use air source heat pumps only in combination with a buffer tank such as the IDM Hygienik Tank.
5.3. Condensation run-off
Air source heat pumps generate condensation during operation. With larger machines, up to 50l of water can be extracted from the ambient air per day. The condensation run-off should be conveyed into the waste water channel via a siphon using the appropriate pipe diameter for the machine.
5.4. Air Routing
The various air ducts (see accessories for interior installation) and wall openings are designed specifi - cally for the relevant machines in question. Effi cient and fault-free operation can only be ensured if the appropriately sized connection elements are used.
5.5. Air Inlet and Outlet
The options for how the air inlet and air outlet are designed are varied. The list below provides design guidelines:
- Air inlet side and air outlet side should always be on two different sides of the building.
- Openings in the masonry must always be protected against the penetration of foreign bodies (leaves, small animals). To do this, mesh grilles should be fi t- ted in light shafts, and weather-shield grilles should be installed on visible walls.
- Wall openings must be created as per the specifi ca- tions and insulated against damp penetration using a closed-pore insulating material (minimum thickness 50 mm).
Even light shafts which are too small enlarge the pressure loss of the air routing. These must therefore be suffi ciently large.
Light shafts must have a rainwater run-off.

5.6. Noise
Noise level in the installation room depends on various factors such as room size, absorption capacity, refl ection, free noise propagation, etc. For this reason, it is important that the heat pump is situated as far as possible from noise-sensitive areas. A noise-insulating door should be fi tted.
The night-time reduction in the fan speed means that noise can be reduced by up to 4 dB. Noise level on the inlet and exhaust air openings are also reduced by approx. 4 dB when using air shafts or ducts.
In case of exterior installation, the installation of the heat pump in a corner can lead to a higher noise level. Superposition of the sound waves means that noise level can increase up to 3 dB.
5.7. Installation space
- The TERRA heat pumps should be
installed in a frost-proof room. (Room temperature should be between 5°C and 35°C)
- In case of a fl oating fl oor screed the screed and
the sound damping around the heat pump have to be omitted.
- Heat pumps should not be installed in wet rooms
or in potentially dust or explosion-endangered rooms.
- Gas from refrigerants in plant rooms must not es-
cape into vicinal rooms, stair rooms, courtyards, walks or into the drainage system of the building. The gas has to be channelled off safely.
- In case of danger, the plant room has to be eva-
cuated immediately.
- For powering off the cooling facility, a remote
power-off switch has to be installed nearby the door of the plant room.
- In case a natural ventilation is not possible, a
mechanical ventilation has to be provided. A mechanical ventilation has to be equipped with an independent emergency control outside of the machine room near the door.

5.8. Corner installation
The ideal position for the heat pump has proved to be in a corner. Wall openings can be prepared by the customer in advance. These openings must be insulated with closed pore insulating material (minimum thickness 50 mm).
5.8.1. Space Required and Accessibility
To guarantee maintenance and operation of the heat pump, the following minimum distances must be observed:
Front side (operation and maintenance side) = 800 mm Maintenance side = 500 mm
Observing these distances will help ensure problemfree system maintenance and operation.
A condensation run-off with siphon must normally be fi tted opposite the exhaust air opening for the heat pump.

5.8.4. Assembly Instructions Corner Installation
Wall connection is supplied separately. Vertical connections must be affi xed fi rst. To do this, simply remove the fi lm on the rear side. The cellular rubber can then be affi xed fl ush with the external edge of the heat pump. Additionally the horizontal elements are also lined on the front. This will help ensure an optimum seal.
Before the machine is positioned in the corner, a check should be carried out to ensure that the wall opening prepared by the customer has been insulated. The machine can then be moved into the corner.
If there are any air gaps on the outlet or inlet openings due to the ground being uneven, this can be corrected using the adjustable machine feet.
Noise level in the installation room depends on various factors such as room size, absorption capacity, refl ection, free noise propagation, etc. For this reason, it is important that the heat pump is situated as far as possible from noise-sensitive areas. A noise-insulating door should be fi tted.
Signifi cant pressure against the wall should be avoided.
The heat pump may only be moved with the panels fi tted.

5.9. Installation – Standard air duct
If there are no two external walls directly available for installation, the air fl ow can be conveyed outwards via insulated air ducts. Our range includes standard air ducts which can be connected directly to the heat pump without adaptation.
There are two ways to do this:
Option 1
Option 2
This method is used if there are no two external walls available. As a short circuit may occur between the supply and exhaust sides with this method, the inlet and outlet should be positioned as far apart as possible. The unit can be separated from any shrubbery by fi tting dividing walls if necessary.
This method is equivalent to corner installation. This method can be used if corner installation is not possible due to space restrictions or if a gap needs to be bridged between the heat pump and outlet side.
Air ducts can be connected to the right and left of the heat pump. Heating and electrical connections can also be fi tted on both sides.

The heat pump may only be moved with the panels fi tted.
Signifi cant pressure against the wall should be avoided.
If two or more ducts are assembled together, the duct must be supported (above or below).
Outlet Panel
The outlet panel is mounted using the four clamps supplied.
Duct:
Assemble the duct using the screw set supplied. The tting length should then be checked.
If the straight duct is too long, two rivets can be bored open on one side so that the fl ange can be removed. The duct can then be cut to length using an angle grinder or a jigsaw with the relevant blade. The fl ange can then be re-fi tted.
Insulation:
The insulation for the straight duct is supplied separately. This is self-adhesive and needs to be affi xed once the duct has been cut to the correct length.
Wall connection:
The wall connection is sprayed into the wall opening with assembly foam. The outlet duct must be connected before the foam hardens.

5.12. Conversion from left to right-side connection
The larger CL and also all CL - HGL machines need no other pipe clamp. It's also not necessary to shorten the thread rod.
You only have to turn the connection by 180°.
The TERRA CL HGL is pre-fi tted with left-hand side connection openings. The connection side can be changed if required. The following steps are required to do this:
Remove the panels on the left and the right-hand side by unfastening the eight respectively four screws.
Remove the central bar and the assembly angle by unscrewing the clamping screws above and below.
Converting the hydraulic pipework CL08-10 BA
For converting the hydraulic pipework remove the left-hand side pipework and the cable fi ttings.
2
3
4
1
To remove the pipework unfasten the pipe clamps (2) and the connection angle (3) on the plate heat exchanger. Turn the upper elbow joint by 180° and tighten again (according to the picture). Tighten the xing clips and threaded rods. Install the circulation pump and turn the pump head back.
The heating side connection of the electrical heater may not be exposed to heavy tension!
For the upper pipework remove the copper extension pipe (1) at the connection (4). The heating side connection is carried out directly on the electrical heater.
Mount the thread rod in the provided tap hole on the right side of the base plate. To fi x the upper pipework you have to shorten the upper thread rod. So you can x the pipework with the thread rod and the provided pipe clamp (54 - 59mm) on the electical heater.
Re- fasten all connecting cables using the cable binder. Then re-fi t the panels onto the opposite side.

Exterior installation
6. Exterior installation
6.1. Customer preparation
Foundation:
The foundation should be level and stable. A base can be provided by the customer or a paving slab can be laid on a gravel base. The air source heat pump should be positioned slightly higher than the immediate site profi le.
Space requirements:
The heat pump must be positioned so that there is suffi cient space for air intake and air outlet (see mini- mum distances for exterior installation). It should not be possible for the inlet and exhaust air openings to become blocked by snow, leaves, etc. Installation in wall niches is to be avoided.
Inlet air:
The inlet air must be free of impurities such as sand and caustic materials such as ammonia, sulphur, chlorine, etc.
Condensation pipe:
The condensation pipe must be laid so that the water can also fl ow off even at outside temperatures below 0°C. A heatable siphon should be fi tted. Alternatively, an electrical self-regulating heating cable can be used that is selected via the Navigator Control.
Frost protection:
If, in the case of bivalent-alternative operation, the HP is shut down at low outside temperatures, there is a potential danger that the heating lines and the condenser plate heat exchanger could freeze.
The following frost protection options are possible:
- Electrical self-regulating heating cable on pipes and condenser
- Frost protection function of the control system.
Heating connections:
In general, all lines outdoors should be kept as short as possible. All pipes and wall openings must be professionally heat-insulated and frost-protected during installation.
It might be necessary to install a self-regulating electrical heating cable to protect the lines from frost.
Installation location:
Despite the reduction in speed during the night, the heat pump should not be positioned adjacent to a living room or bedroom. The relevant installation guidelines conforming to EN 378, for example, must be observed.

Heating Side Connection
7. Heating Side Connection
7.1. Requirement heating side connection
The relevant laws, regulations and standards for machine room piping and for heat pump systems must also be observed.
- It is essential that a dirt trap is fi tted in the heating return pipe.
- Safety devices and expansion devices for closed heating systems according to EN 12828 must be tted.
- The dimensioning of the lines must be in accordance with the required fl ow volumes.
- The connection hoses supplied for the heat pump ow and return lines must always be installed. The connection hoses can be cut to the required length, but not shorter than 60 cm. In addition, the connection hoses must not be bent.
- Venting options should be fi tted at the highest points of the connection lines, and draining options at the lowest points.
- To avoid heat loss connection lines should be insulated using suitable material.
Oxygen diffusion
With plastic pipe underfl oor heating or open heating systems which are not diffusion-tight, corrosion may occur on steel parts when using steel pipes, steel radiators or storage tanks due to oxygen diffusion.
Corrosion products can be deposited in the condenser and may cause heating losses to the heat pump or high-pressure faults.
For this reason, open heating systems or steel pipe installations in combination with plastic pipe under oor heating which is not diffusion-tight should be avoided.
Heating water quality
Depending on the quality of the heating water, lime scale may occur (adherent coating primarily consisting of calcium carbonate) on heat exchanger surfaces in particular, i.e. with a high proportion of calcium hydrogen carbonate there is a risk of lime scale forming.
For this reason, in systems with a water hardness of over 14°dH or with a calcium hydrogen carbonate concentration of more than 2.5 mol/m³, the heating water should be treated accordingly (softened/demineralised).
Information on the calcium hydrogen carbonate concentration c(Ca(HCO3)2) of your heating water can be obtained from your water supply company.
The pH value should also be checked; this should be between 8 and 9.5.
- EN 12828
- ÖNORM H 5195
- VDI Directive no. 2034-1
Incorrect fl ow volumes due to incorrect pipework, incorrect fi ttings or incorrect pump operation may cause damage.

When using a fl ow meter to measure the heat volume, the sensor B39 must be fi tted in an immersion sleeve in the heat pump return directly in the heat pump (see installation instructions fl ow meter).
7.2. Terra CL-HGL heat pump with IDM Hygienik with separation plate
During the priority charging procedure, the top area of the storage tank is charged with the speed-controlled charging pump at the set HGL temperature.
During the heating operation of the heat pump, a proportion of the fl ow is always charged into the top storage tank area via the HGL exchanger and the HGL valve at the set HGL temperature.
This keeps the Hygienik at the right temperature whilst at the same time the lower storage tank area is better used as a buffer due to the higher temperature, this means
- longer running times for the heat pump
- longer deadtimes
- more tapwater and higher tapwater temperature

7.5. Terra CL-BA heat pump with Hygienik and without separation plate and heating buffer
For larger systems (over approx. 27kW), with either signifi cant hot water consumption or a very low hot water consumption, it is advisable to separate the heating buffer and the Hygienik. The buffer in question is heated via the priority valve as required. For hot water supply, a Hygienik without separation plate is used.
When using a fl ow meter to measure the heat volume, the sensor B39 must be fi tted in an immer- sion sleeve in the heat pump return directly in the heat pump (see installation instructions fl ow meter).

8. Electrical connection
8.1. Power supply
Electrical connection must be registered with the relevant power supply company.
The necessary series-connected fuse for the primary circuit can be found in the technical data. It is essential that a fuse design is used (“C” or "K" characteristic). The relevant cable cross section must be determined by the electrician.
All systems are equipped with a start-up current limiter. The heat pump is operated via the Navigator Control.
Depending on system design, the relevant sensors are required; see the connection diagrams on the following pages for more information.
For reliable operation of the heat pump, the voltage in the mains network must be within specifi c tolerance limits, between 360 and 430 V (check with the relevant power supply company if necessary).
The connection cables between the control cabinet and the heat pump are not included in the scope of delivery. The layout of the respective line cross section for the compressor must be carried out by an electrician according to the technical data (see page 6). The power consumption of the compressor can also be taken from the wiring diagram enclosed.

8.5. EMC
Please take note of the following with regard to this issue: Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) demands additional work and expertise from all manufacturers and operators of modern electrical technology and electronics year on year.
As the number of electronic devices in use increases continually, the number of potential sources of interference also increases. A combination of cables from the power supply company , transmission stations and other communications devices generate an invisible “electrosmog".
This interference affects all systems, both biological (us as living beings) as well as technical electrical systems. They generate undesirable fault currents which can have different effects.
The effects on biological systems can only be guessed at currently , but the ef fects on technical electrical systems are measurable, and in the worst case, visible as well.
The faults can have different effects:
- Short-term measurement faults
- Permanent measurement faults
- Short-term interruption in data connections
- Permanent interruption in data connections
- Data losses
- Damage to equipment
Potential sources of interference are essentially all technical electrical systems, e.g. contactor coils, electric motors, transmitters, mains and high-voltage lines, etc., and the equipment can be affected via different coupling routes (galvanic, inductive, capacitive, via radiation).
As far as we are concerned, everything has been done to protect the Navigator Control from interference (Hardware design, EMI-proof electrical panel, network fi lter, etc.). In particular , it is the responsibility of the electrician to prevent possible coupling paths when setting up the electrical installation.

9. Commissioning
9.1. Commissioning information
Before start-up of the TERRA heat pump, the heating side must be checked for tightness, rinsed thoroughly , lled and bled carefully.
Prerequisites for starting up
- The heating and any storage tank must be fi lled and bled.
- During the start-up the entire buffer tank must be heated to min. 15°C. This, for example, can be done using the electric immersion heater.
- The electrical installation must be complete and fuse-protected in line with legal requirements.
- The heat pump may only be switched on if it is fi lled on the cold side and on the heating side, and if the electrical connections have been checked.
- During start-up, the maximum temperature limit must also be set. The switch-off point of 55°C should be checked and the set shutdown temperature changed as necessary.
- The heat pump is equipped with a start-up delay of 10 minutes so that the compressor only starts running after this period.
- If the heat pump is to be drained on the heating side for frost protection, the connection hose on the heat pump return (plate heat exchanger) must be unfastened.
9.1.1. First switch-on of the heat pump
After actuation of the main switch on the heat pump, the start-up Wizard is started after selecting the language.
9.2. Operation
The Terra heat pump is switched on and off automatically via a fully-automated Navigator Control system. For operation and start-up, please refer to the separate operation and start-up instructions.
