ITEMS NEEDED BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR GARAGE DOOR

MEASURING FOR YOUR DOOR

1. Measure existing door width and height in feet and inches. This determines the size of door needed. The rough opening should be the same size as the door. Width: ____________________ Height: ____________________

2. Measure for sideroom: 3 3/ installation of the vertical track for standard extension or torsion springs, or EZ-SET Torsion Spring. Sideroom: __________________

3. Measure area labeled “headroom”— distance between the top of the door opening (“jamb header”) and the ceiling (or first obstruction, ex: light fixture). 11" is required for standard installation of extension springs; 12" on standard torsion springs and EZ-SET Torsion Spring. If you have restricted headroom, special hardware is available. Low headroom hardware is available to reduce requirement to as low as 4 extension spring). EZ-SET Torsion Spring low headroom requirement is 91/2". Note: If door height extends above the opening, the headroom measurement should be adjusted accordingly. Common garage door widths include 8', 9', 16' and 18'. Common garage door heights include 7' and 8'. See Menards Team Member for additional size availability.

NOTE: On 8' and 9' wide doors, a reinforcement strut must be purchased if an automatic garage door opener is installed. The majority of homes today have automatic garage door openers. Therefore, Ideal doors do not include a lock. If desired, an easy-to-install, heavy-duty, keyed lock is available.

PAINTING AND STAINING YOUR DOOR TO COMPLEMENT YOUR HOME

How to Paint your Steel Door:

• Clean door surface to remove any loose material or dirt.

• Paint with a high quality 100% acrylic latex exterior grade paint.

• Simply use a brush or roller to apply paint. Doors have a woodgrain texture so paint application marks seemingly disappear.

NOTE: Carriage House Custom Crafted Steel

doors may be painted any color except black or colors with a light reflective value (LRV) lower than 8.

• Galvanized springs are cleaner, more attractive and can last up to 50% longer than oil tempered springs.

• Unlike conventional torsion spring installations, the torsion load is transmitted through the flag brackets and into the jambs, eliminating the time-consuming process of preparing the anchor pad and mounting the load-bearing center brackets.

• Die cast aluminum drums (not plastic) provide exceptional durability and ensure long life.

Adjust spring tension in seconds using a power drill.

User-friendly 45º drill input angle typically allows do-it-yourselfers to stand safely on the floor to wind and adjust springs.

How to Stain your Wood Door:

• Select a high quality exterior oil-based penetrating stain that is mildew resistant, UV resistant and water repellent.

• Clean door surface to remove any loose material or dirt.

• Apply stain to all door section surfaces.

• Fill any gaps or voids on surface with a clear silicone caulk.

NOTE: Paint grade doors cannot be stained.

Complete staining instructions are found in installation manual.

How to Paint your Wood Door:

• Fill any gaps or voids on wood surfaces with a paintable caulking compound.

• Clean all door surfaces with a stiff bristle brush.

• Prime the door per the installation instructions.

• Paint all door section surfaces using a high quality oil or latex-based exterior paint.
