III. Wireless Charging:
A Primer
At Icon Q, we take pleasure in delivering–and explaining–the latest technology in our products.
A. HISTORY
Since the 1800s, scientists such as Michael Faraday, Guglielmo Marconi, and Nikola Tesla have worked on the idea of wireless power. With the soaring demand of mobile devices and maturing technology, wireless charging for everyone is now becoming a reality.
In 2009, the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) created Qi, a specic wireless charging standard. Qi is starting to see wide adoption, being utilized in products by companies like Samsung and Nokia.

B. HOW IT WORKS
Qi works through a technology called inductive charging. Inductive charging uses an electromagnetic eld, created by two matching coils, to transfer energy between the two objects.
Qi always involves two devices: one transmitter and one receiver.
The transmitter sends magnetic energy out. The receiver receives the magnetic energy and converts it to electrical energy, which recharges the battery.
Because the charging is wireless, remember that it can take a little longer than a traditional charger cable to ll up your battery. Today, Qi is about convenience, not speed.
