Part 1: Installation and user’s guide

This section contains the product description, installation instructions, and product use information.

Product description

The IBM ThinkPad Ultrabay Plus Numeric Keypad is a 17-key numeric keypad designed to connect to the Ultrabay Plus drive bay of an IBM ThinkPad computer. You can connect the Numeric Keypad at any time and use it immediately, while still using the keyboard of your ThinkPad computer.

Your option package includes the following:

v One IBM ThinkPad Ultrabay Plus Numeric Keypad v One product limited warranty flyer v One IBM ThinkPad Ultrabay Plus Numeric Keypad Device Driver and User’s

Guide CD, which includes this User’s Guide and device drivers

If any of these items are missing or damaged, contact your place of purchase.

Note: If you have previously installed the IBM ThinkPad USB Numeric

Keypad in your ThinkPad computer, you must remove the device drivers for that device, as they are incompatible with the device drivers for the IBM ThinkPad Ultrabay Plus Numeric Keypad. Before installing the Numeric Keypad, uninstall the USB Numeric Keypad and restart your computer. You are now ready to install the IBM ThinkPad Ultrabay Plus Numeric Keypad.

Installation requirements

To install the Numeric Keypad, you must have the following:

v An IBM ThinkPad computer with an Ultrabay plus drive v Microsoft

or Windows XP

Note: The device driver does not support MS-DOS.

v An Ultrabay Swap Driver (for Windows 98 and Windows Me). You do not

need to install this device driver; it has already been installed on your computer.

v An Ultrabay Plus Device Carrier (IBM part number 27P5737) installed v Ultrabay Plus Numeric Keypad Device Driver

Windows®98, Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Windows 2000,

Note: You must install this device driver from the CD included in your

option package. For instructions on installing the device driver, see “Installing the device driver”.

Installing the device driver

Note: To install the device driver you must have your CD-ROM drive installed

in your bay.

To install the device driver, do the following:

Note: Installing the device driver restarts your computer. Be sure to save your

work and close all programs before installing the device driver.

1. Insert the IBM Ultrabay Numeric Keypad Device Driver and User’s Guide CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.

2. If the CD starts automatically, follow the on-screen instructions. If the CD does not start automatically, do the following:

a. Click Start → Run. b. Type x:/setup.exe/,wherex is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive of

your computer.

c. Click OK. d. Follow the on-screen instructions.

After you have verified that the device driver is correctly installed, click User’s Guide to read the online User’s Guide.

Notes:

1. Print out the online User’s Guide. You might need to refer to it during the installation procedure.

2. After the device driver has been installed, some components are placed in a folder labeled Human Interface Devices.

To install the Numeric Keypad see the following illustration and steps to complete installation.

1. Remove the CD-ROM drive from your ThinkPad computer. See the manual

for your computer for instructions on removing the CD-ROM drive.

2. Install your Ultrabay Plus Device Carrier into your ThinkPad computer. To install the Device Carrier in your computer, do the following:

3. Open the Device Carrier tray by doing the following: a. Slide the latch on the front of the Device Carrier to the left. The Device

Carrier tray pops out.

b. Gently pull the Device Carrier tray out until it clicks into place.

4. Slide the latch on the Device Carrier tray back.

5. Slide the latch on the Device Carrier tray forward to lock the Numeric

Keypad in place.
