This guide contains instructions on how to install and use the IBM®Preferred USB Keyboard with Hub.
Product description
Your keyboard will work in USB-port equipped computers with Microsoft
®
Windows®98 or Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional. In addition to this book, this keyboard package contains:
v One IBM Preferred USB Keyboard with Hub
Installing the keyboard
Follow the instructions for the operating system you use. v Windows 98.
1. Turn on your computer and let Windows 98 start.
2. Plug your keyboard into the USB slot on your computer.
The Add New Hardware window opens for the USB Generic Hub Device. Click Next.
3. Select Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended) and
then click Next.
4. Deselect all boxes and then click Next.

5. Click Next.
6. Wait until your computer finishes copying files, and then click Finish.
7. The Add New Hardware window opens for the USB Composite Device.
Click Next.
8. Select Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended) and
then click Next.
9. Deselect all boxes and then click Next.
10. Click Next.
11. Wait until your computer finishes copying files, and then click Finish.
12. The Add New Hardware window opens for the USB Human Interface.
Click Next.
13. Select Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended) and
then click Next.
14. Deselect all boxes and then click Next.
15. Click Next.
16. Wait until your computer finishes copying files, and then click Finish.
17. The Add New Hardware window opens for the USB Human Interface
Device. Click Next.
18. Select Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended) and
then click Next.
19. Deselect all boxes and then click Next.
20. Click Next.
21. Wait until your computer finishes copying files, and then click Finish.
Your keyboard is now ready to use.

Using the USB Multi-port Hub
To use other USB devices with the ports on the back of the keyboard, follow these instructions:

With your computer on and the Preferred Keyboard plugged in and operating, plug the other USB devices you wish to use into the port on the keyboard. Follow the instructions on your screen.
For more information on how to configure and use the other devices with your Keyboard, see the Users Guides that come with those other devices.
Understanding device-usage guidelines
Before you begin using devices connected to the Keyboard, be sure to note the following device-usage guidelines:
v Do not activate resource-intensive devices at the same time because USB
limitations might cause a degradation in the performance and the speed of the devices. For example, do not start a USB scanner while you are using a USB camera. Instead, close the application for the camera; then start the scanner.

6. Patientez pendant que le système copie les fichiers, puis cliquez sur
Terminer.

Utilisation du concentrateur USB multi-port
Pour utiliser d’autres périphériques USB avec les ports prévus à l’arrière du clavier, conformez-vous aux instructions suivantes :
L’ordinateur étant sous tension, le clavier IBM Preferred connecté et actif, branchez les autres périphériques USB que vous souhaitez utiliser sur le port du clavier. Suivez les instructions qui s’affichent.
Pour plus d’informations sur la configuration et l’utilisation des autres périphériques avec votre clavier, reportez-vous au guide d’utilisation qui accompagne ces derniers.
Instructions relatives à l’utilisation des périphériques
Avant de commencer à utiliser des périphériques connectés au clavier, prenez connaissance des instructions suivantes :
v N’activez pas simultanément plusieurs périphériques consommant beaucoup
de ressources car, en raison des limitations USB, une dégradation des performances et une réduction de la vitesses des périphériques peut en résulter. Par exemple, ne démarrez pas un scanneur USB pendant l’utilisateur d’un appareil photo USB. Vous devez d’abord fermer l’application pour l’appareil photo avant de démarrer le scanneur.

Directrices sobre el uso de dispositivos

v No active dispositivos de uso intensivo de recursos al mismo tiempo, puesto
que las limitaciones del USB podrían provocar un deterioro del rendimiento y la velocidad de los dispositivos. Por ejemplo, no arranque un escáner USB mientras está utilizando una cámara USB. Primero cierre la aplicación de la cámara y, después, arranque el escáner.

Istruzioni sull’utilizzo dell’unità
Prima di utilizzare le unità collegate alla tastiera, annotarsi le seguenti istruzioni sull’utilizzo dell’unità:
v Non attivare le unità con risorse contemporaneamente in quanto è possibile
che le limitazioni USB causano una degradazione nelle prestazioni e nella velocità delle unità. Ad esempio, non avviare uno scanner USB mentre si sta utilizzando una macchina fotografica USB. Chiudere l’applicazione relativa alla macchina fotografica; quindi avviare lo scanner.

Compreendendo as Orientações sobre o Uso de Dispositivos
Antes de começar a utilizar os dispositivos conectados ao Teclado, observe as seguintes orientações sobre o uso desses dispositivos:

limitações de USB podem causar danos ao desempenho e à velocidade dos dispositivos. Por exemplo, não inicie um scanner USB enquanto estiver utilizando uma câmera USB. Só inicie-o após fechar o aplicativo da câmera.

Appendix A. Problem solving
Computer problems can be caused by hardware, software, or user error. You might be able to use the information in this section to solve problems yourself, or gather helpful information you can pass on to a service technician.
Review the following problem descriptions to determine if they fit your situation.
The keyboard does not work after you connect it to the computer.
Take the following actions:
1. Remove and reattach the keyboard cable.
2. Check the computer manual for instructions about the installation of USB
devices. Follow all procedures.
A device does not operate after you connect it to the hub.
v Connect one device at a time to the hub. If a device does not work, attach it
to the other connector on the hub determine if there is a problem with a connector.
v If the device works with one connector and not the other, the keyboard hub
might need service. For information on obtaining help and service, go to “Appendix B. Help and service information” on page B-1.
v If the device does not work with a connector that works with another USB
device, the device might need service. Contact the manufacturer of your device for information on obtaining help and service.

During the warranty period IBM or your reseller, if approved by IBM to provide warranty service, will provide repair and exchange service for the

To obtain warranty service for the Machine, contact your reseller or IBM. In the United States, call IBM at 1-800-772-2227. In Canada, call IBM at 1-800-565-3344. (In Toronto, call 416-383-3344.) You may be required to present proof of purchase.
IBM or your reseller provides certain types of repair and exchange service, either at your location or at a service center, to keep Machines in, or restore them to, conformance with their Specifications. IBM or your reseller will inform you of the available types of service for a Machine based on its country of installation. IBM may repair the failing Machine or exchange it at its discretion.
When warranty service involves the exchange of a Machine or part, the item IBM or your reseller replaces becomes its property and the replacement becomes yours. You represent that all removed items are genuine and unaltered. The replacement may not be new, but will be in good working order and at least functionally equivalent to the item replaced. The replacement assumes the warranty service status of the replaced item.
Any feature, conversion, or upgrade IBM or your reseller services must be installed on a Machine which is 1) for certain Machines, the designated, serial-numbered Machine and 2) at an engineering-change level compatible with the feature, conversion, or upgrade. Many features, conversions, or upgrades involve the removal of parts and their return to IBM. A part that replaces a removed part will assume the warranty service status of the removed part.
Before IBM or your reseller exchanges a Machine or part, you agree to remove all features, parts, options, alterations, and attachments not under warranty service.
You also agree to
1. ensure that the Machine is free of any legal obligations or restrictions that
prevent its exchange;
2. obtain authorization from the owner to have IBM or your reseller service a
Machine that you do not own; and
3. where applicable, before service is provided a. follow the problem determination, problem analysis, and service request
procedures that IBM or your reseller provides,
b. secure all programs, data, and funds contained in a Machine, c. provide IBM or your reseller with sufficient, free, and safe access to
your facilities to permit them to fulfill their obligations, and
d. inform IBM or your reseller of changes in a Machine’s location.

IBM is responsible for loss of, or damage to, your Machine while it is 1) in IBM’s possession or 2) in transit in those cases where IBM is responsible for the transportation charges.
Neither IBM nor your reseller is responsible for any of your confidential, proprietary or personal information contained in a Machine which you return to IBM or your reseller for any reason. You should remove all such information from the Machine prior to its return.
Production Status
Each IBM Machine is manufactured from new parts, or new and used parts. In some cases, the Machine may not be new and may have been previously installed. Regardless of the Machine’s production status, IBM’s appropriate warranty terms apply.
Limitation of Liability
Circumstances may arise where, because of a default on IBM’s part or other liability, you are entitled to recover damages from IBM. In each such instance, regardless of the basis on which you are entitled to claim damages from IBM (including fundamental breach, negligence, misrepresentation, or other contract or tort claim), IBM is liable for no more than
1. damages for bodily injury (including death) and damage to real property
and tangible personal property; and
2. the amount of any other actual direct damages, up to the greater of U.S.
$100,000 (or equivalent in local currency) or the charges (if recurring, 12 months’ charges apply) for the Machine that is the subject of the claim.
This limit also applies to IBM’s suppliers and your reseller. It is the maximum for which IBM, its suppliers, and your reseller are collectively responsible.

If you purchased an IBM Personal Computer Machine in Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, or Ukraine, you may obtain warranty service for that Machine in any of those countries from either (1) an IBM reseller approved to perform warranty service or (2) from IBM.
The applicable laws, Country-unique terms and competent court for this Statement are those of the country in which the warranty service is being provided. However, the laws of Austria govern this Statement if the warranty service is provided in Albania, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Ukraine.
The following terms apply to the country specified:
EGYPT: Limitation of Liability: The following replaces item 2 in this Section:
2. as to any other actual direct damages, IBM’s liability will be limited to the total amount you paid for the Machine that is the subject of the claim.

GERMANY: The IBM Warranty for Machines: The following replaces the first sentence of the first paragraph of this Section: The warranty for an IBM Machine covers the functionality of the Machine for its normal use and the Machine’s conformity to its Specifications.
The following paragraphs are added to this Section: The minimum warranty period for Machines is six months.
In case IBM or your reseller are unable to repair an IBM Machine, you can alternatively ask for a partial refund as far as justified by the reduced value of the unrepaired Machine or ask for a cancellation of the respective agreement for such Machine and get your money refunded.

During the warranty period, transportation for delivery of the failing Machine to IBM will be at IBM’s expense.

Limitation of Liability: The following is added to this Section: The limitations and exclusions specified in the Statement of Warranty will not apply to damages caused by IBM with fraud or gross negligence and for express warranty.

caused by IBM’s negligence; and 2. the amount of any other actual direct damages, up to the greater of Irish Pounds 75,000 or 125 percent of the charges (if recurring, the 12 months’ charges apply) for the Machine that is the subject of the claim or which otherwise gives rise to the claim.
Applicability of suppliers and resellers (unchanged).
The following paragraph is added at the end of this Section: IBM’s entire liability and your sole remedy, whether in contract or in tort, in respect of any default shall be limited to damages.
