New availability features, including memory mirroring, Active PCI and RAID integration, help improve uptime
New systems management integration delivers ultimate control
Leverage 64-bit performance
The IBM _`® xSeries® 236 delivers enhanced performance for workgroup messaging, collaboration and business-critical applications. New support for 64-bit technology through Intel® EM64T provides outstanding performance and reliability for critical mail and collaboration applications. The 64-bit capability, combined with system enhancements including large memory support up to 16GB DDR2 memory via 8 DIMM slots and new high-speed I/O with PCI-Express, provides balanced system performance.
Keep systems up and running
Advanced availability enhancements on the x236 provide high system reliability to keep critical applications online. Choices in integrated RAID-0, -1 or -10 or optional RAID adapters offer new levels of versatility, including new IBM ServeRAID™-7k supporting RAID-5 without taking up a PCI slot. New memory availability features, hot-spare and memory mirroring, help minimize errors when running memory-intensive applications. Support for up to nine hot-swap SCSI drives and hot-swap fans and power supplies help keep components available when maintenance is needed.
Simplify infrastructure through systems management
New, integrated systems management features—including power control, text redirection and IPMI compliance—help reduce administration time and expenses. The new Remote Supervisor Adapter II SlimLine card provides virtual remote control of the server without using a PCI slot.

Maximum internal hard disk and memory capacities may require the replacement of any standard hard drives and/or memory and the population of all hard disk bays and memory slots with the largest capacity supported drives available. When referring to variable speed CD-ROMs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs and DVDs, actual playback speed will vary and is often less than the maximum possible.
