HE HUTTO “9” TYPE production grinder
is designed for the grinding of cylinder bores

outboard moLor cylinders, lighting plant cylinders,
certain types of bushings and inner ball races, tub

This type of grinder is so designed lhaL stones
for several different diameters of cylinders may be
fitted to the grinder body and is especially suited
to the needs of manufacturers who have several
diameters of cylinders to grind and not sufficient
production on any one size
of an “L” type grinder for a particular size only.
The “9” type grinder is furnished in four different
models as
designed to take cylinder diameters within the
extreme limits shown.
For best results Lhese grinders should be used
with Hutto Machines which are especially designed
for cylinder grinding.
The various metal parts of the grinder are manu
factured from chrome nickel steel and steel of
special S. A. E. specifications, hardened and ground
to close limits, assuring perfect operation and long
wearing qualities.
The double-ball universal forms a driving connec
tion between the driving head and the grinder body,
permitting the latter to float freely in the cylinder
bore in order to center and align itself automati
cally. The universal is hollow to accommodate an
adjusting shaft and is manufactured in various
lengths to suit the length of the particular cylinder
in which it is used.

The brake-type driving head permits the expan
sion of the grinder while in operation and the
micrometer set and slop feature makes possible the
grinding of cylinder bores to a predetermined size
beyond which the tool will not grind until adjust
ment control is reset. Adjustment or expansion of
the abi’asive stones against the cylinder wall is
accomplished while in operation by setting up on
the brake handle, putting a retarding action on the
adjusting sleeve which is transmitted through a
system of gears and a shaft to the cone adjusting
screw, which when turned draws two opposed
together imparting an outward thrust

eter adjustment of the grinder is therefore within
the control of the operator at all times, eliminating
the hazard of grinding oversize and permitting the
removal of as little stock at a setting as desired.
Accuracy limits of .0005" and less may be easily
maintained and when used in connection with Hutto
machines a high rate of production with a conse
quent saving in production time and cost is assured.
Rate of production of course depends on diameter
and length of the work, the amount of stock to be
removed and material specifications.
Slone holders are manufactured from solid bar
stock sLcel, hardened and ground to precision limits
on the outside and may be returned for refilling
with abrasive stones at a nominal charge.
