Forward/ReversehandleineithertheFORWARDorREVERSEposition.Theall-wheeldrivesystemwill engageanywheel(s),frontorrear,withtraction.

KEYSWITCH–DIESELVEHICLES

Thekeyswitch(7)ismountedontheinstrumentpaneltotherightofthesteeringcolumn(Figure7).Ithasfour positions:PREHEA T,OFF ,ON,andSTART .

UsethePREHEATfeatureifthetemperaturefallsbelow–5°C(23°F).DonotholdthekeyinthePREHEATposition longerthan20seconds.T opreheattheglowplugsincoldweather,turnthekeytothePREHEATposition,andholdit therefor10-15seconds.ThenturnthekeytotheST ARTposition,andholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Iftheengine doesnotstartafter10-15seconds,turnthekeytotheOFFpositionandrepeattheprocedure.Oncetheenginestarts, releasethekeyanditwillreturntotheONposition.Theenginewillidleinneutral.Theenginewillcontinuetoidleuntil thekeyisturnedtotheOFFposition.SeepreviousWARNING,CAUTION,andNOTE.

FORWARD/REVERSECONTROL

TheForward/Reversehandle(6)islocatedontherightsideoftheinstrumentpanel(Figure7).Thehandlehasthree distinctpositions:FORWARD(A),NEUTRAL(B),andREVERSE(C).Pushthehandleuptooperatethevehicleinthe forwarddirection,orpullthehandledowntooperatethevehicleinreverse.Theenginecanbestartedonlywhenthe handleisintheNEUTRAL(middle)position.TheenginemustbeatidlebeforeshiftingtheForward/Reversehandle.

SeeprecedingWARNINGandCAUTION.

Husqvarnavehiclesoperateatareducedspeedinreverse.Thereversebuzzerwillsoundasawarningwhenthe Forward/ReversehandleisintheREVERSEposition.

HORN

Thehornbuttonislocatedontheontheleftsideofthesteeringcolumn.Pressthebuttontosoundthehorn.See SafetyDecalandFeatureIdenticationonpage4.

ACCELERATORPEDAL

Theacceleratorpedal(1)isthepedalfarthesttotheright(Figure7).

WiththeenginerunningandtheForward/ReversehandleintheFORWARDorREVERSEposition,vehiclespeed willincreaseastheacceleratorpedalispressed.Whentheacceleratorpedalisreleased,itwillreturntotheoriginal positionandtheenginewillidle.SeeprecedingWARNINGandCAUTION.

BRAKEPEDAL

Thebrakepedal(2)islocatedtotheimmediateleftoftheacceleratorpedal(Figure7).T osloworstopthevehicle, pressthebrakepedal.

PARKBRAKE

Theparkbrakepedal(3)islocatedtotheleftofthebrakepedal(Figure7).Toengagetheparkbrake,rstapply pressuretothebrakepedal,thenrmlypresstheparkbrakepedaluntilitlatchesintoplace.T odisengagethepark brake,pulltheparkbrakereleasehandle(4)(Figure8).SeefollowingWARNING.

NOTE:Extendeduseofthisaccessoryoutletcancausethebatterytobecomeheavilydischarged.

LOWOILWARNINGLIGHT

Thelowoilwarninglight(9)islocatedontheinstrumentpaneljusttotheleftofthesteeringcolumn(Figure7).Ifthe warninglightcomeson,oilshouldbecheckedandaddedtotheengineasnecessarybeforevehicleusecontinues. Thevehicleshouldneverbedrivenwhenthelowoilwarninglightremainslit.Ifthewarninglightcomesonandoff,the vehiclemaybedriven,butoilshouldbeaddedattherstopportunity .Iftheoilleveliscorrectandthewarninglight remainslit,haveatrainedtechniciancheckthevehicle.SeefollowingCAUTION.

FUELGAUGE/HOURMETER

Thefuelgaugeandhourmeter(8)arehousedtogetherontherightsideoftheinstrumentpanel(Figure7).Thefuel gaugeoperateswhenthekeyswitchisintheONpositionandallowstheoperatortomonitorthefuellevelinthevehicle. Thehourmeteroperatesonlywhentheengineisrunning,andshouldbeusedbythetrainedtechniciantotrackvehicle usageanddeterminewhenperiodicserviceproceduresarerequired.SeePeriodicServiceScheduleonpage30.

HEADLIGHTCONTROL

Theheadlightcontrol(12)islocatedontheleftsideoftheinstrumentpanel(Figure7).Presstheheadlightrocker switchtoturntheheadlightonoroff.SeefollowingNOTE.

Toliftthebed,pushupandholdtherockerswitchintheupperposition.Releasetheswitchtostoptheliftingoperation. Toclosethebed,pressdownandholdtheswitchinthelowerposition.Thebedliftwillmakealoudclickingsoundto signalthatthebedisintherestposition.

HIGH-TEMPERATUREWARNINGLIGHT(DIESELVEHICLESONLY)

Thehigh-temperaturewarninglight(10)islocatedontheinstrumentpaneltotheleftofthesteeringcolumn,next tothelowoilwarninglight(9)(Figure7).Thedieselengineisliquid-cooled;iftheenginecoolanthasexceededits normalsafeoperatingtemperature,thewarninglightwillilluminate.Ifthewarninglightcomeson,stopthevehicleand allowittoidleforapproximatelyveminutesbeforestoppingtheengine.ContactaHusqvarnadealer/distributorora trainedtechnician.SeefollowingWARNING.

Theretractorwilllockthebeltduringasuddenstop.Italsomaylockiftheoccupantleansforwardtooquickly.Aslow, easymotionwillallowthebelttoextend,andtheoccupantcanmovefreely .Iftheseatbeltcannotbepulledoutofthe retractor,rmlypullthebeltandreleaseit.Itshouldthenpullsmoothlyoutoftheretractor.

Toreleasetheseatbelt,pressthebucklereleasebutton(1)andallowthebelttoretract(Figure9).Ifthebeltdoesnot retractsmoothly ,pullitoutandcheckforkinksortwists.Thenmakesureitremainsfreeoftwistsasitretracts.

PRE-OPERATIONANDDAILYSAFETYCHECKLIST

EachHusqvarnavehiclehasbeenthoroughlyinspectedandadjustedatthefactory;however,uponreceivingyournew vehicle(s),youshouldbecomefamiliarwiththecontrols,indicators,andoperation.Carefullyinspecteachvehicleto ensurethatitisinproperworkingconditionbeforeacceptingdelivery .

PERFORMANCEINSPECTION

Afteryouhavefamiliarizedyourselfwiththevehiclecontrolsandhavereadandunderstoodthedrivinginstructions, takethevehicleforatestdrive.Usethefollowinglist,inadditiontothePre-OperationandDailySafetyChecklist, asaguidetoinspectthevehicledailyforproperoperation.AnyproblemsshouldbecorrectedbyaHusqvarna dealer/distributororatrainedtechnician.

•Forward/Reverseshifter:Checkforproperoperation.SeeControlsandIndicatorsonpage12.

•Brakes:Besurethebrakesfunctionproperly.Whenbrakepedalisfullypressedundermoderatepressure,the vehicleshouldcometoasmooth,straightstop.Ifthevehicleswervesorfailstostop,havethebrakesystem

checkedandadjustedasrequired.Whenthebrakepedalisfullypressedunderheavypressure,thepedalshould feelrmandthedistancebetweenthebackofthepedalandtheoorboardshouldbeaminimumof1.25inches (3.2cm).Brakeadjustmentmustbemaintainedsothebrakepedalcannotbepressedtotheoorboardunder anycircumstance.

•Parkbrake:Whenlatched,theparkbrakeshouldlockthewheelsandholdthevehiclestationaryonaninclineof 20%orless.

•Reversebuzzer:ThereversebuzzershouldsoundasawarningwhentheForward/Reversehandleisinthe REVERSEposition.

•Steering:Thevehicleshouldbeeasytosteerandshouldnothaveanyplayinthesteeringwheel.Besurethe steeringwheeladjustmentleverissecurelylockedintoposition.

•Accelerator:AfterstartingtheenginewiththekeyswitchandplacingtheForward/Reversehandleinthe FORWARDposition,thevehicleshouldacceleratesmoothlytofullspeedastheacceleratorpedalispressed. Whenthepedalisreleaseditshouldreturntotheoriginalposition,andtheengineshouldidle.Husqvarnavehicles operateatreducedspeedinreverse.

•Governor:Checkmaximumvehiclespeed.Thevehicleshouldoperateinforwardatamaximumspeedof25 mph(40km/h)onalevelsurface.

•General:Listenforanyunusualnoisessuchassqueaksorrattles.Checkthevehicle’srideandperformance. HaveaHusqvarnadealeroratrainedtechnicianinvestigateanythingunusual.

DRIVINGINSTRUCTIONS

STARTINGTHEVEHICLE

1.Readsafetywarningsontheinstrumentpanelandvehicleloadinginformationlocatedinthecargobed.

2.Besureload,ifany ,issecure.

3.Studyandunderstandallcontrols.

4.Besureallpassengersareseatedwiththeirseatbeltsfastenedandareholdingontohandholds.Drivershould havebothhandsonthesteeringwheel.

5.Makesurewheelsareturnedindesireddirectionandnothingisinyourpath.

6.MakesuretheForward/ReversehandleisintheNEUTRALposition.

7.Pressandholdthebrakepedal.

8.Startthevehicle.

8.1.Dieselvehicles:T opreheatglowplugsincoldweather,turnthekeytothePREHEA Tpositionandholdit therefor10-15seconds.TurnthekeytotheSTARTpositionandholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Ifthe enginedoesnotstartafter10-15seconds,turnthekeytotheOFFpositionandrepeattheprocedure.Once theenginestarts,releasethekeyanditwillreturntotheONposition.Theenginewillidleinneutral.

10.Keepthebrakepedalengaged,andselectdirectionoftravelbyplacingtheshifthandleinthedesiredposition (Figure7).Theenginemustbeatidlebeforetheshifthandleismoved.Abuzzerwillsoundasawarningwhen theForward/ReversehandleisintheREVERSEposition.

11.Releasethebrakepedalcompletely ,andthenslowlypresstheacceleratorpedal.Astheacceleratorpedalis pressed,thevehiclewillbegintomove.Vehiclespeedwillincreaseastheacceleratorispresseduntilfullspeedis reached.All-wheeldrivewillautomaticallydrivetheappropriatewheel(s)asrequired.SeefollowingWARNING.

WARNING

•Operatormustcontrolvehiclespeedwhengoingdownhill.

•NevershiftthevehicleoutoftheFORWARDpositionwhilegoingdownhill.Ifyoudo,youwillnotbe abletoshiftintotheREVERSEpositionorbackintotheFORWARDpositionuntilstopped.

•Pressthebrakepedalasnecessaryandpresstheacceleratorpedalpartiallywhendescendingahill. Withtheacceleratorpedalpartiallypressed,thegovernorwillcausetheenginetoassistthebrakesin controllingdownhillspeed.

ALL-WHEELDRIVE(AWD)OPERATION

AllHusqvarnaHUV5420DXvehiclesfeatureanall-wheeldrive(AWD)system.TheAWDsystemautomaticallydirects powertothewheel,orwheels,thathavethemosttraction,providingoptimumtractionatalltimes.Forexample,ifall wheelsexcepttherearpassenger-sidewheellosetraction,thenpowerwillbedirectedtotherearpassenger-side wheel.Theall-wheeldrivevehiclecanadapttractionforawidevarietyofdrivingsurfacesandconditions.See

followingWARNING.

WARNING

•Whenservicingthevehiclewithpartofthevehicleonjackstands,donotoperatetheenginewiththe

Forward/ReversehandleineithertheFORWARDorREVERSEposition.Theall-wheeldrivesystemwill engageanywheel(s),frontorrear,withtraction(Figure3).

•Thediameterofalltiresonthevehiclemustbeequal;otherwisetheall-wheeldrivesystemwillnot operateasintendedandcouldresultinseverepersonalinjuryordeath.Neverinstalltiresofdifferent diametersonthevehicle.
