Hummer H2 Spare Tire Cover Installation Instructions
Thank you for the purchase of your new Hummer H2 spare tire cover. Please inspect your
package contents before beginning installation. Included should be a molded faceplate (factory
painted) and stainless steel retaining ring with locking mechanism. The stainless steel ring is
covered with a protective vinyl cover that should not be removed until installation is completed.
Installation Procedures:
1. Hold the retaining ring over spare tire with trim facing towards you (latch assembly will
be facing down). Place one side of the open end of the ring over the tire and gradually
move ring over and around tire until the retaining ring fits over spare tire.
2. Carefully slip the painted faceplate between the tire and stainless retaining ring. Start at
the top tire and work down each side, working retaining ring over faceplate edge.
3. Carefully close opening at bottom of the retaining ring, keeping the faceplate centered.
Adjust the latch so the retaining ring fits snug.
4. If faceplate is loose, push on retaining ring edge to adjust the retaining ring inward to
sandwich faceplate between tire and retaining ring.
5. If the retaining ring overlaps at the bottom, you can cut off excess steel using steel shears.
Cut excess material from the open end of ring that has the ladder type product to achieve
proper fit. Do not cut off excess from the keyed latch side.
6. Once installation is complete, remove blue colored vinyl coating to reveal luster finish.
7. Wax retaining ring after removing protective vinyl to provide a protective barrier and to
help maintain a lustered appearance. Wax will not discolor any trim.
Care and Use Instructions
To keep your tire cover looking new and operating properly, we suggest that you:
• Wash your tire carrier regularly. The high quality 430-grade stainless steel
retaining ring will resist weathering, road grime and chemicals for short periods
of time, but to prevent possible permanent marking or pitting of the stainless steel
surface, you must periodically remove these contaminants.
• Polish and wax your stainless steel ring to further enhance and protect it.
Polishing with an automotive grade chrome cleaner will work to remove any
surface contamination that may remain after washing. Waxing with an automotive
grade wax will provide a protective coating to protect against further attack from
road chemicals.
• The ABS faceplate of your tire cover requires only regular washing. Treat it as
you would the rest of the painted surface your vehicle. No other special care is
required.
• Lubricate the keyed locking mechanism one to two times a year to insure and
maintain good mechanical operation.
