Mounting and Optional Accessories
Understanding Mounting
Hunter’s patented mounting system provides you maximum installation  exibility and ease. You can install your Hunter fan in one of two ways, depending on your preference: Standard or Angle mounting.  e steps in this manual include instructions for both mounting methods.
Considering Optional Accessories
Consider using Hunter’s optional accessories, including a wall-mounted or remote speed control. To install and use the accessories, follow the instructions included with each product. For quiet and optimum performance of your Hunter fan, use only Hunter speed controls.
Standard Mounting hangs from the ceiling by a downrod (included), recommended for ceilings 8 feet or higher
Angle Mounting recommended for a vaulted or angled ceiling
For ceilings higher than 8 feet, you can purchase Hunter extension downrods. All Hunter fans use sturdy 3/4” diameter pipe to assure stability and wobble-free performance.

2 • Installing the Hanger Bracket
2-1. Drill two pilot holes into the wood support structure through the
outermost holes in the outlet box. e pilot holes should be 9/64” in diameter.
2-2. Align the slotted holes in the hanger bracket with the pilot holes
you drilled in the wood support structure. For proper alignment use slotted holes directly across from each other. If you are installing the fan on an angled ceiling, be sure to orient the hanger bracket with the large opening towards the ceiling peak.
2-3. Use an indelible marker to mark the exact location of the pilot
holes relative to the slots on the hanger bracket. Remove the hanger bracket.
2-4. Partially install two canopy screws (about 2 full turns) in the
hanger bracket.
2-5. Place the ceiling gasket over the hanger bracket so that the slots
and the raised surfaces on the ceiling gasket align with the slots and holes on the hanger bracket.
2-6. Use a 3” screw to pierce two holes in the ceiling gasket that match
the pilot holes you drilled in step 2-1. Use the marks on the hanger bracket from step 2-3 as your guide.
2-7. read the lead wires from the outlet box down through the hole
in the middle of the ceiling gasket and hanger bracket.
Note: e ceiling gasket should be ush against the ceiling. 2-8. Place a at washer on each of the two 3 ” screws and pass the
screws through the ceiling gasket and hanger bracket into the pilot holes you drilled.
Tighten the screws into the 9/64” pilot holes; do not
use lubricants on the screws. Do not over tighten.

4-1. Disconnect the power by turning o the circuit breakers to the outlet
box and associated wall switch location.
4-2. Decide how you want to set up the fan and light controls. You can
control the fan and/or lights together or separately using one or two wall switches. Follow Step 4-3 OR Step 4-4, depending on what you decide.
Note: If you are not installing a light kit, follow step 4-4.
4-3. If you want to, you can control the fan and light separately using two
wall switches, connect the wires as follows:
• e bare or green ground wire from the ceiling to the green ground wire from the hanger bracket and the green ground wire from the fan
• e white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan
• e black wire from the ceiling to the black wire from the fan
• e black/white wire from the fan to the wire for the wall switch
4-4. Alternatively, you can control both fan and light with one switch. To
do so connect the wires as follows:
• e bare or green ground wire from the ceiling to the green ground wire from the hanger bracket and the green ground wire from the fan
• e white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan
• e black wire from the ceiling to the black and the black/white wire from the fan
4-5. To connect the wires, hold the bare metal leads together and place a
wire nut over them, then twist clockwise until tight.
CAUTION: Be sure no bare wire or wire strands are visible after

6 • Assembling the Blades
Hunter fans use several styles of fan blade irons (brackets that hold the blade to the fan).
6-1. Your fan may include blade grommets. If your fan has grommets,
insert them by hand into the holes on the blades.
6-2. Attach each blade to a blade iron using three blade assembly
screws. If you used grommets, the blades may appear slightly loose after screws are tightened. is is normal.
6-3. For each blade, insert one blade mounting screw through the
blade iron, and attach lightly to the fan. Insert the second blade mounting screw, then securely tighten both mounting screws.

8 • Operating and Cleaning Your Ceiling Fan
8-1. Turn on electrical power to the fan.
8-2. e fan pull chain controls power to the fan. e pull chain has
four settings in sequence: High, Medium, Low and O.
• Pull the chain slowly to change settings.
• Release slowly to prevent the chain from recoiling into the blades.
• e chain uses a breakaway connector that separates if the chain is jerked. If this happens, simply reinsert the chain into the connector.
8-3. To change airow direction, turn the fan o and let it come to
a complete stop. Pull the reversing pullchain one time and then restart the fan.
Ceiling fans work best by blowing air downward (counterclockwise
blade rotation) in warm weather to cool the room with a direct breeze. In winter, having the fan draw air upward (clockwise blade rotation) will distribute the warmer air trapped at the ceiling around the room without causing a draft.
8-4. For cleaning nishes, use a soft brush or lint-free cloth to prevent
scratching. A vacuum cleaner brush nozzle can remove heavier dust. Remove surface smudges or accumulated dirt and dust using a mild detergent and a slightly dampened cloth. You may use an artistic agent, but never abrasive cleaning agents as they will damage the nish.
8-5. Clean wood nish blades with a furniture polishing cloth.
Occasionally, apply a light coat of furniture polish for added protection and beauty. Clean painted and high-gloss blades in the same manner as the fan nish.
In warm weather, use downward air ow pattern
In cold weather, use upward air ow pattern
