· This equipment must be installed and serviced only by qualified electrical personnel in accordance
with National and Local Electrical Codes.
· Turn off all power supplying this equipment before working on or inside equipment.
· Always use a properly rated voltage sensing device to confirm power is off.
· Replace all devices, doors, and covers before turning on power to this equipment.
· Do not apply petroleum-based products to non-metallic parts.

The Home Guard Surge Protective Device (SPD) is mounted at the electrical meter
for residential protection.
CAUTION
HAZARD OF EQUIPMENT DAMAGE
· Megger® or hi-potential tests may damage this surge protective device. Turn off all power supplying
the equipment and isolate the surge protective device before testing.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.

1. Turn off all power supplying this equipment before working on or
inside this equipment.
2. Have an authorized utility person remove the utility seal and
locking ring or cover from the meter.
3. Following NFPA 70E and using appropriate PPE, carefully remove
the meter from its base.
4. Before inserting the HomeGuard, connect the green ground wire
provided to the inside of the meter socket housing using appropriate
ground bonding methods as described in NEC Article 250.
5. Make sure the unit is upright (see Figure 1a). Plug the
HOMEGUARD unit securely into the meter base until the grounding
pins make contact with the meter base grounded support brackets.
6. Replace the meter socket cover to secure the HOMEGUARD
in place.
7. Plug the meter securely into the HomeGuard. (see Figure 1b)
8. Install the new locking ring to secure the meter to the
HOMEGUARD (not included).
9. Have authorized electric utility personnel reseal both the
HOMEGUARD (if required) and the meter locking rings.
10. Turn power on.
