INSTALLATION, OPERATION &
MAINTENANCE DATA SHEET
“EMH, EMS & EMM SERIES HID
FACTORY-SEALED LIGHTING FIXTURE
READ THIS SHEET CAREFULLY BEFORE BEGINNING
INSTALLATION.
“EMH, EMS & EMM” SERIES HID
FACTORY-SEALED LIGHTING FIXTURE
CAUTION:
Before installing, make sure you are compliant with area classications, failure to do so may result in bodily injury,
death and property damage. Do not attempt installation until you are familiar with the following procedures. All
installation must comply with the applicable Electrical Code.
Make sure that the circuit is de-energized before starting installation or maintenance.
Verify that the installation is grounded. Failure to ground will create electrical shock hazards, which can cause
serious injury and or death.
IMPORTANT:
I) See xture nameplate for specic hazardous location suitability and specic supply wire
(minimum temperature rating).
2) Verify the ground continuity in the electrical system.
3) Do not operate this xture if the ambient temperature exceeds the rating shown on the nameplate.

WARNING: Turn OFF the supplying circuit before beginning installation or performing any maintenance including
relamping.
WARNING: Do not operate this xture on an ungrounded
system.
NOTE: All installations must comply with applicable
local and/or National Electrical Code, or United States
Coast Guard (CFR46), Section (110-113) for Marine
installation.
1. DIRECTIONS FOR INSTALLATION
1. Install xture’s mounting accessory per
instructions supplied with the mount.
2. Loosen the locking screw (A).
3. Unscrew and remove globe support assembly
(B) from xture tank (C).
CAUTION: During installation or maintenance,
care should be taken to avoid scratching,
nicking or chipping the glass globe.
4. Verify that supply line voltage and xture
nameplate voltage are compatible. If more
than one voltage is listed on nameplate, xture
contains a multi-tap ballast and is prewired for
277V.; if required voltage is other than 277, See
Steps 5, 6 & 7.
5. Disconnect the 277V. line by removing the wire
nut (H).
6. There are three capped wires with marked
voltages ( 120, 208 & 240V.). Select the proper
wire, cut off the crimped terminal (E), strip the
lead and connect to the “LINE” lead using the
wire nut (H).
NOTE: Upon completion of Step 6, tuck all the
capped leads under the internal reector (F).
7. Recap the 277V. lead, using an approved wire
nut or equivalent cap.
8. Make sure the external threads at the top of
the xture tank are free of any dirt, metal chips
or other foreign materials. Apply a thin coat of
Killark “LUBT” lubricant to the threads.
NOTE: Take extreme care not to cross-thread
the xture when installing into mounting
accessory. Install xture by threading into the
mounting accessory; the electrical contacts will
automatically engage. Be sure the xture is tight
(the 0- ring gasket is in full contact).
9. Tighten the set screw on the side of the
mounting accessory. Referring to the xture
nameplate, install the proper size and type of
lamp.
10. Make sure the globe support threads are clean.
To prevent galling of threads, apply a thin
coating of Killark “LUBT” lubricant to the male
threads. Thread the globe support assembly
into the xture tank and turn until there is no gap
between the anges (the 0-ring gasket is in full
contact.).

NOTE: Join or “lap” marks may form during
the pouring of molten glass in the globe
manufacturing process. It is not unusual for
these marks to become visible. This is a
common and normal occurrence for large
explosion proof globes and does not affect
performance.
Tighten the locking screw (A). To install
optional guard (D) (EMG2), loosen the (4)
screws (G), slip the guard over the screws
& rotate it to the locked position. Tighten the
screws rmly.
2.OPERATIONAL DATA
Operate this xture only at the voltage of your
specic supply circuit.
3. MAINTENANCE DATA
NOTE - Most HID lamps need 4 to 5 minutes
to reach full lighting output. A power failure
or a large voltage drop will extinguish the
arc. The lamp will restrike after cooling for
approximately 5 to 12 minutes (30 to 90
seconds for High Pressure Sodium). With the
Instant Restart feature, the lamp will restrike
within several seconds.
CAUTION - Turn OFF the supplying circuit
before opening xture for relamping. To relamp,
loosen the locking screw and remove the globe
support assembly. NOTE: The globe support
assembly disengages after approximately 3
turns. Replace the lamp with one of the correct
size and type. Refer to the xture nameplate
for this information. When relamping, be careful
not to damage the threaded areas of the
xture, as they maintain the xture’s explosionproof properties. Clean the threads and apply
a thin coating of Killark “LUBT” lubricant before
reassembling.
CLEANING: To maintain maximum light output,
the xture should be cleaned periodically.
Maintenance procedures sometimes
require xtures to be hosed down for good
housekeeping.
NOTE: The supply circuit must be turned OFF
and the xture globe must be allowed to cool to
the ambient room temperature before cleaning.
Only mild, non- abrasive cleaning agents
should be used. These periodic cleaning
procedures are important to prevent the
accumulation of dust and dirt which will impair
the light output of the xture. The glass globe
should be regularly inspected for scratches
and chips and, if damaged, the entire globe
support assembly must be replaced. See 2 & 3
on Installation.
