Quidway® NetEngine 40 Series Universal
Switching Router Route Switching Units
The Route Switching Unit (SRU) is the core of the Quidway® NetEngine 40 universal switching router (USR) series (abbreviated as NE40).
NE40-8 and NE40-4 provide 2 slots, where one or two SRUs can be located. It is suggested that you configure two SRUs in order to implement SRU redundancy and enhance system reliability. NE40-2 has only one SRU slot, so it does not support SRU redundancy.

When the active SRU runs normally, the standby one is backing up such information in real time as data configuration and status of slot, board, interface, power, fan and protocol. When the active SRU is seriously faulty or is reset manually, the system restores services on the standby one (automatically or by command). Meanwhile, it generates an alarm and records the switchover cause and process in the log file which will be notified to the NMS.

The SRU consists of main processing unit (MPU), switching fabric unit (Fabric) and clock module (CLK). As the core of system control and management, SRU also serves as system clock source and maintenance and management unit. It implements the functions of the control plane, switching plane and system maintenance plane.
Below follows a description of functions.
I. MPU
z Process routing protocols, generate and sent forwarding tables to line
boards.
z Conduct system management and performance monitoring as commanded
and feed back the information of system running to the operator.
z Monitor and maintain the running of LPU. z Monitor and maintain the running of Fabric and CLK. z Monitor the running of the fan system and power system.
II. Fabric
z Support non-blocking and automatic routing data exchange. z Support dynamic sharing of output buffer. z Support multi-priority switching. z Support multicast switching. z Support hardware flow control and back pressure. z The temperature sensor tests the temperature of the SRU. It can also collect
and report temperature information and generate related alarms.
III. CLK
z Provide a standard level-3 synchronization clock with the clock reference
source (2048 Kbit/s or 2048 KHz).
z Support clock priority. z Have four working modes: fast tracking, normal (tracking), hold and free-run. z Have rough tune and fine tune function, realizing on-site frequency
adjustment.
z Enable synchronization performance detection, alarming and control.
Specifications
At present, the NE40 provides three types of SRUs, including CR-SRUB, CR-SRUC and CR-SRUE.
Compared with first-generation SRUs of CR-SRUB and CR-SRUC, CR-SRUE demonstrates much better performance. CR-SRUB and CR-SRUE are applicable to NE40-8, NE40-4 and NE40-2, while the CR-SRUC is only applicable to NE40-2.
In addition, the CR-SRUE provides 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet interface while CR-SRUB and CR-SRUC provide 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface.
