100M Ethernet Boards
Overview
The 100M Ethernet board of the Quidway® NetEngine 80 core router (abbreviated to NE80)
consists of the PIC Fast Ethernet (FE) interface and the Line Processing Unit (LPU).
The LPU implements processing and encapsulation of link layer protocols, data flow classification
and packet filtering, data forwarding and control packet processing. The FE interface implements
Fast Ethernet MAC layer processing functions and Physical Medium Dependent (PMD) sub-layer
functions, and provides such functions as loopback and environment monitoring.

In terms of interface types, the 100M Ethernet board of the NE80 can be categorized into the 100M
Ethernet electrical interface board and the 100M Ethernet optical interface board.
The 100M Ethernet board is mainly applied in Ethernet interconnection, reaching a rate up to 100
Mbps. The electrical interface board is usually used when the transmission distance does not

exceed 100m; the optical interface board is used when the transmission distance ex ceeds 100m. In
addition, different optical modules can be chosen for different transmissi on distances.
Specifications
The NE80 supports two types of 100M Ethernet electrical interface boards (16-port CR-E GFEE and
32-port CR-EWFEE) and two types of 100M Ethernet optical interface boards (8-port CR-E8FF and
16-port CR-EGFF).
