General Installation
Proper installation can ensure optimum performance and reliability of the HQT repeater and, therefore,
pre-installation planning is required. This includes considering the mounting location of the equipment
in relation to in pu t power and antenna . Al so to be considered are site environment conditions, the
particular mo un ti ng method (seve ra l av ailable), and the r eq uired tools and equ ip ment.
If this is the firs t ti me i nstalling thi s ty pe o f equipment, it is highly recommended that be sure to read
the following installation requirements and instructions carefully before beginning the actual installation.

Enviro nmental Condition s at Intended Install at ion Site
The repeater ma y be i nstalled in any loc at io n suitable for elec tr onic co mmunications equipment,
provided that the environmental conditions do not exceed the equipment specifications for temperature,
humidity and air quality.
Operating Tem pe rature Range
-
-30°C (-22°F) to +60°C (+140°F) – the temperature surrounding the repeater. (It refers to the temperature

Ventil ation Requirement s
The repeater is equipped with a cooling fan to provide forced convection cooling. So please comply
with the ventil at ion requirement s be lo w in pre-instal la ti on.
Cabinets must b e eq uipped with venti la ti on slots or open ings in the front (for air entry) and back
or side panels (for air to exit). If several repeaters are installed in a single cabinet, be sure ventilation
openings surr ou nd each repeater to a ll ow for adequate coo li ng.
All cabinets mu st h av e at least 15cm (6 in ch ) of o pen space betwe en the air vents and any wall
or other cabine ts t o allow for adequat e ai r fl ow.
When several cabinets (several repeaters in each cabinet) are installed in a closed area, adequate
ven tilation must be ensured, also to be considered are air condition or other environmental control
devices, to mee t th e operating tempe ra ture requiremen ts o f the equipment.
AC Input P ower Requirements
Th e re pea t er is e qui ppe d wi th a sw itc h ing -mo de p owe r s u ppl y o f wh ich the wo r kin g r a nge is
100 – 240VAC (47 – 63 Hz A C in put power). Bes id es , a standard 3-core cable is provided to connect

the power suppl y to A C power supply.
A grounding socket-outlet with standard 3-core cable is recommended to connect the AC power supply.
The socket-outlet must be co nnected to the AC power supply which can provide a maximum power
of 280W. For nomi na l 11 0/120 VAC input, th e AC p ower supply must be w it h 5A current supp ly a nd
pro tected by a circuit breaker with 15A rated curr ent. For nomin al 220/240 VAC input, the AC power
supply must be wi th 3 A current supply an d pr otected by a circui t br eaker with 10A rate d cu rrent.
Circuit Overl oa di ng
Overloading o f th e ov ercurrent pro te ctive device and ef fe cts of the power supp ly c ir cuit must
be considered . To b e considered is the r at ed value of equipme nt f or solving such pro bl em .
Mounti ng Methods
HQT repeater ca n be m ounted in a rack, bra ck et or cabinet (So can t he a ccessories).
Ground ing and Lightning Pro tection
One of the most imp or tant issues to be con si dered is groundin g and lightning protection system in
designing communication site. Correct grounding technology is closely related to lightning protection,
and the common ty pe s of site grounding a re l isted as below:
08
Electrical Gr ou nding
Ground cable us ed f or transmitting t he c ur rent from site ci rc ui t or devices belo ng s to E lectrical
Grounding. It i nc ludes the AC or DC powe r su pply used for site po we r device, and lines or cables
for connectin g si te alarm or sensor.
RF Grounding
This type involves the grounding of useless RF energy. One example of RF Grounding is to use shielding
object to avoid o r mi ni mize the harmfu l RF e ne rgy from commun ic ation devices and c ab le s.
The device must b e in stalled in places w hi ch a re easily accessi bl e.
Lightning Pro te ction Grounding
Providing ade qu ate lightning pro te ction is vital for en su ri ng a safe and reliabl e communication
site. RF cable , and AC or DC power cables must be protecte d in case of the ligh tn ing strikes when
lightning ent er s the site.
Ev en th ough the c onten ts co ve red i n sit e gro undin g tec hn ology and light ning protection ar e

requirement s of g rounding and ligh tn ing protection ex is t in communicatio n si te.
Device Ground in g
The repeater is e qu ipped with ground screw which is on the rear of the power suppl y module an d
used for connec ti ng the repeater to the site ground. Correct grounding and lightni ng protection
should be made fo r al l an tenna cable, AC a nd D C po wer ca bles, to a ccord with the rules and
requirement s ab ove. If not, perman en t damages to the radi o eq uipments may be cau se d.

Mounti ng the Repeater in a Rack o r Ca binet
The repeater is s hi pped in a box; it must be m ov ed to a rack or cabinet from the packing container
once arrived.
Note: The rack or c ab inet must have guid e ra il s and hole spacin g, w it h EIA 48.3 cm (19 inch)
configurati on .
The cabinet mus t ha ve a dequate ventilation and comply with the minimum standards listed below:
- Depth: 41.3 cm (1 6. 25 i nch)
- Width: 48.3 cm (1 9 in ch)
- Height: 13.4 cm ( 5. 25 i nch)
- The two instal lation rails are 5 cm (2 inch) away from the front of the cabinet, and front installation
hole spacing is 2 .2 5 in ch (from center t o ce nter).
