Congure trays
The product automatically prompts you to congure a tray for type and size in the following situations:
When you load paper into the tray
When you specify a particular tray or paper type for a print job through the print driver or a software program and the tray is not congured to match the print-job’s settings
NOTE: The prompt does not display if you are printing from Tray 1, and Tray 1 is congured for the Any Size
paper size and the Any Type paper type settings. In this situation, if the print job does not specify a tray, the product prints from Tray 1, even if the paper size and type settings in the print job do not match the paper loaded in Tray 1.

Use paper output options

Print to the standard output bin

The standard output bin collects paper face-down, in the correct order. Use this bin for most print jobs, including transparencies. To use the standard output bin, be sure that the rear output bin is closed. To avoid jams, do not open or close the rear output bin while the product is printing.
The standard output bin holds up to 250 sheets of 75 g/m2 (20 lb) paper.

Print to the rear output bin

The product always prints to the rear output bin if it is open. Paper that is printed to this bin will exit face-up, with the last page on top (reverse order).
The rear output bin holds up to 50 sheets of 75 g/m2 (20 lb) paper.
Printing from Tray 1 to the rear output bin provides the straightest path. Opening the rear output bin might improve performance with the following items:
Envelopes
Labels
Small custom-size paper
Postcards
Paper heavier than 120 g/m2 (32 lb)
To open the rear output bin, grasp the handle at the top of the bin. Pull the bin down to a 45° angle, and slide out the extension.
NOTE: Opening the rear output bin makes the duplexer and the top output bin unavailable. To avoid jams, do
not open or close the rear output bin while the product is printing.

Use the convenience stapler (stapling models only)

Activate the stapling mechanism by inserting paper into the convenience stapler.
1. Insert up to 20 sheets of paper that weighs up to
75 g/m2 (20 lb) into the slot in the stapler door. Insert fewer sheets to staple if the paper weight is heavier than 75 g/m
CAUTION: Do not use the convenience stapler to
staple plastic, cardboard, or wood. Damage to the convenience stapler can result from attempting to staple these materials.
NOTE: Exceeding the recommended capacity can
result in jams or damage.
2. Wait for the stapler to staple the sheets. When it is
inserted all the way into the stapler slot, the paper should trigger the stapler mechanism.

Select the Continue option to set the product to alert you that the cartridge is very low, but to continue printing.
NOTE: Using the Continue setting allows printing beyond Very Low without customer interaction and
can result in unsatisfactory print quality.
If you select the Stop or Prompt to continue option, the product stops printing when it reaches the Very Low threshold. When you replace the cartridge, the product automatically resumes printing.
When the product is set to the Stop or Prompt to continue option, there is some risk that faxes will not print when the product resumes printing. This can occur if the product has received more faxes than the memory can hold while the product is waiting.
The product can print faxes without interruption when it passes the Very Low threshold if you select the Continue option for the toner cartridge, but print quality might degrade.
Once an HP supply has reached Very Low, HP’s premium Protection Warranty on that supply has ended.
