IMPORTANT PRODUCT NOTICES AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When using your blood pressure monitor, basic precautions should always be followed. Please read and follow all instructions and warnings before using this product. Save these instructions for future reference.
•Please note that this is a home healthcare product only and it is not intended to serve as a substitute for the advice of a physician or medical professional.
•Do not use this device for diagnosis or treatment of any health problem or disease. Measurement results are for reference only. Consult a healthcare professional for interpretation of pressure measurements. Contact your physician if you have or suspect any medical problem.
•Proper cuff size is critical for accurate measurements. If the index line on the cuff falls outside of the OK range when applied to the user’s arm, contact HoMedics Consumer Relations regarding additional cuff sizes.
•This product is not suitable for people with arrythmias. This device may have difficulty determining the proper blood pressure for individuals with diabetes, poor circulation of blood, kidney problems or for users who have suffered from a stroke.

•The pulse display is not suitable for checking the frequency of heart pacemakers.
•Electromagnetic interference: The device contains sensitive electronic components. Avoid strong electrical or electromagnetic fields in the direct vicinity of the device (e.g. mobile telephones, microwave ovens). These may lead to temporary impairment of measurement accuracy.
•Use blood pressure monitor only for its intended use.
•Do not wrap the cuff around body parts other than your arm.
•This unit is intended for use in measuring the blood pressure and pulse rate of adults. Do not use this device on infants or those who cannot express their own consent. This unit should not be operated by children.
Blood pressure measurements determined with this device are equivalent to those obtained by a trained observer using the cuff/stethoscope ausculatory method, within the limits prescribed by the American National Standard, Manual, electronic, or automated sphygmomanometers.
ABOUT BLOOD PRESSURE
What is Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure is the pressure exerted on the artery walls while blood flows through the arteries. The pressure measured when the heart contracts and sends blood out of the heart is systolic (highest) blood pressure. The pressure measured when the heart dilates with blood flowing back into the heart is called diastolic (lowest) blood pressure.
Why Measure Your Blood Pressure?
Among today’s various health problems, those associated with high blood pressure are very common. High blood pressure dangerously correlates with cardiovascular diseases. Therefore, blood pressure monitoring is important for identifying those at risk.
BLOOD PRESSURE STANDARD
The US Department of Health and Human Services and the National Institutes of Health have developed a blood pressure standard, that identifies areas of lowand high-risk blood pressure.
3 |
4 |
BPS-FD1.qxd 7/13/06 9:55 AM Page 5
This standard, however, is a general guideline as an individual’s blood pressure varies among different people, age groups, etc.

To determine category of risk when systolic and diastolic readings fall into two areas, use the higher of the two numbers for classification.
It is important that you consult with your physician regularly. Your physician will tell you your normal blood pressure range as well as the point at which you will be considered at risk.
For reliable monitoring and reference of blood pressure, keeping long-term records is recommended.
HOW THIS BLOOD PRESSURE MONITOR WORKS
This manual inflate digital blood pressure monitor provides systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse readings quickly and easily. Once the cuff is inflated, the monitor will determine your blood pressures by analysis of your pressure oscillations. When the measurement is completed, the device will deflate the cuff and display your systolic pressure, diastolic pressure and pulse readings.

If any of the following letters and numbers appear in the area that diastolic pressure should be displayed, an error has occurred with your reading. See Troubleshooting section of this manual for more information.
Measurement Error: Measure again. Wrap the cuff correctly and keep arm steady during measurement.
Air Circuit Abnormality: Check cuff connection. Measure again.
Pressure Exceeding 300 mmHg: Switch the unit off to clear, then measure again.
Data Error: Remove and reload the batteries.

3.Open the arm cuff so that your arm may be placed through it.
4.Remove tight fitting clothing from around your upper left arm. Wrap the cuff around your upper left arm as shown below. The rubber tube should point in the direction of your hand. The bottom edge of the cuff should be 0.8"~1.2" (2~3 cm) above your elbow with
the tube positioned over the middle of your arm.
5.Locate the main artery by pressing with two fingers approximately 1" (2 cm) above the bend of your elbow on the inside of your left arm. Identify where the pulse can be felt the strongest. This is your main artery.
6.Position the red area of the cuff on the inside of
your left arm with the artery symbol () over the main artery.

7.To secure the cuff, pull the end toward you,
wrap it over the cuff, then press the hook and loop closure together. Allow room for two fingers to fit between the cuff and your arm.

Note: If it is not possible to fit the cuff to your left arm, it can also be placed on your right arm. However, all measurements should be made using the same arm. To use on the right arm, you must position the symbol over the main artery on the inside of your right arm.
Very Important: Proper cuff size is critical to accurate measurement. This cuff is suitable for your use if the Index line falls within the OK range as shown below. If the Index line falls out of the OK range, you will need a cuff with other circumferences. Contact Health Plus Consumer Relations regarding additional cuff sizes.
