INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Introduction

The CHQ-BACKBOX is designed for installati ons where t he CHQ "Smart-Fix"
Modules (CHQ-DIM, CHQ-S ZM, CHQ - DZM, CHQ - DS C, CHQ -MRC, CHQ-DRC, plus
SCI versions) require mounting within a glanded enc losure. The unit feat ures ten
knock-outs suitable for cable glands and accept s the CHQ Modules directly as a lid.

Fixing the Backbox

 The CHQ-BACKBOX should be fixed to a dry, stable fixing surface. Using the

template on the r ev er se of these instructions, det ermine the fixing position of the
box, ensuring each of the four drill holes on the templ ate is mark ed cl earl y on the
fixing surfac e.

 Drill the four holes in the fixing surface acc or ding to the required fixing method

being used.

 Select the cable- entry knock-outs that ar e requi r ed, refer to CHQ Module

Install ation Instructions for wiri ng details, including number of cables. Remove
with the tip of a screwdriver or similar tool. Fit appr opriate c able glands.

 Fix the box to the fixing surf ac e with appropriate fixings (not supplied) but DO

NOT OVERTIGHTEN as thi s may damage the box .

Wiring the Cables

Due to the rigidity of cer tain fire system cables we recommend, where possible, that
the cables are brought into the box (through cable glands) on the OPPOSITE side of
the box to the requi r ed termi nal block on the CHQ Module (see Fig 1). Wiri ng in this
way allows the cables to be easily manoeuvred into position to reach the terminal
blocks without being obstructed by the ends of t he cable gl ands. If this is not
possible, str ip the outer cable sheath back to t he glands and bend the inner wires to
reach the requi r ed termi nal block (see Fig 2).

Assembling the Unit

Once the cables hav e been c onnec ted, fix the CHQ Module directly to t he CHQ
BACKBOX utilising the four screws (supplied with the module). Finally add the
module cover to t he modul e, t hus creating a sealed lid to the back box.
