shipping damage. Report any damage you find to your ship-

1. Remove the Screen Dryer from its carton and inspect for
2. Unwrap the cordset and plug into the grounded power source.
Note: When using an extension cord, use only grounded 14 gauge
or lower gauge with a maximum length of 25 feet.
The HIX screen dryer is equipped with heat and a filtered air
circulation system. The Power On switch on the upper area of
the front face turns on the blower fan. The built-in blower sys-
tem will achieve moist air replacement at the rate of 100 cfm.
The Heater on switch beneath it activates the heat element.
After the initial warm up, the preset thermostat inside the dryer
is designed to maintain temperatures at approximately 1 10°
degree F . Y ou can also choose to run the air circulation without
heat.
In combination, the heat and air can greatly improve the drying
times of coated and degreased screens.

OPERATION
In high volume operations it is suggested that preparing
screens in sets of eight (maximum capacity) is the best way to
maintain efficient use of the dryer . When each set of screens is
completed remove them from the dryer and store in a dark dust
free environment in preparation for the next step. Note: screens
coated with emulsion must be kept out of the light at all times
during the drying phase and in storage to avoid curing the
emulsion prematurely . The durable melamine top is great for
preparing, stretching or coating screen mesh during pre-press.
It can also be used as a base for the TT180 exposure unit
which has the same dimensions as the HIX screen dryer.
MAINTENANCE
AIR FILTER:
The dust free environment inside the HIX screen dryer is
achieved by the use of an open foam filter, which should be
removed and cleaned monthly or more frequently in dusty
environments. The filter is located near the bottom of the unit
on the right side. The filter can be easily removed by unsnap-
ping the black plastic cover and removing the filter .
After cleaning, simply hold the filter over the air intake vent and

snap the plastic filter cover back into place.

DRYING TIMES:
Drying times will vary , depending on many factors:
• Are you drying wet screens or liquid emulsion?
• What mesh counts are you using; coarse or fine?
• What is the consistency of your emulsion?
• Are you seeking a thick or thin application?
• Did you air blow water out of recycled/ washed out screen?
In house testing will better determine your drying time.
5
Note: Be mindful that poorly coated screens may drip emul-
sion onto the screens below.
Freshly coated screens need a dark environment because they
are light sensitive. Always remember to shut the door . When
the screens are dry move them into another dark dust free
environment or seal them in dark or covered plastic bags.
OPERATION
Y our HIX screen dryer was designed to hold up to 8 screens up
to 26” x 32” in size.
The HIX screen dryer can be used effectively for:
• Drying screens that have been degreased.
• Drying screens that have been coated with emulsion.
• Drying screens that have been exposed and washed out.
• Storing exposed and unexposed screens in a dark and
dust free environment.
The innovative angle rack system is designed to eliminate
cumbersome movable screen holders that grind and bind up
after excessive use. Each of the eight tiers has its own angle
bracket mounted on the right side of the dryer wall to support
the edge of the screen frame. Additionally there are two bars,
one in the front and back to support the left side of the frame
with minimal contact. The bars are angled on a 10° degree
slope, with the HIX exlusive filtered Hot Air flow slot s beneath
each screen.
4
There are no movable parts on the screen racks.
INSERTION OF SCREENS:
Normal screen prep involves stretching, degreasing, and lastly
coating the screens with emulsion.
1. As you finish coating each screen, take the screen and
gently insert it in and along the angle bracket rail located on the
right side of the screen dryer until it clears the edge of the door
frame.
2. Gently set the left side of the screen frame down until that
corner rests on the angled bar (see Fig 1). The angle rack
brackets and bars are preset so that any size screen will
always be level, and contact with the screen frame will be
minimal, occurring only on the bottom corner edge.
