Connection Mode
1. Hotspot Mode
Smartphone is usually working as Wi-Fi client to access
Internet via AP(Access Point) in Wi-Fi zone.
Meanwhile, smartphone has “Personal Hotspot”
function which makes smartphone work as AP and allows other Wi-Fi enabled devices to access Internet via mobile data network (3G/4G LTE).
In “Hotspot Mode”, livOn Player tries to connect to
smartphone with pre-configured SSID(Wi-Fi name) and
password.
Once the connection is made with smartphone, user
can play music files in remote server on the road while moving by controlling livOn Player with smartphone.
2.Wi-Fi Mode (recommended)
In Wi-Fi zone such as home, office or cafe, smartphone
and livOn Player can connect to the same AP to access remote server and control livOn Player.
Getting Started
Sometimes the Wi-Fi control connection between smartphone and livOn Player is lost when user select invalid Wi-Fi information or get out of Wi-Fi zone. Because livOn Player doesn’t have LCD display, user
cannot control livOn Player in this situation. In this emergency, livOn Player can be forced to enter “AP Mode” by pressing Volume+ and Volume- buttons simultaneously,(LED will change to yellow). Then user can
search and connect to livOn Player with smartphone to select proper mode and Wi-Fi information.
In this mode, the PC that is connected to the same Wi-
Fi can control livOn Player.
In “Wi-Fi Mode,” livOn Player tries to connect to AP
with pre-configured SSID(Wi-Fi name) and password.
Up to 8 Wi-Fi APs’ information can be registered in
livOn Player for you to select depending on where you
are.
3.livOn Player AP Mode
livOn Player is working as Wi-Fi AP in this mode. User can search the pre-configured SSID(Wi-Fi name) of
livOn Player and connect it to control livOn Player.
If Wi-Fi connection between livOn Player and
smartphone is lost(user’s mistake or when user is out of
Wi-Fi zone), please refer to the below for recovery.

When the server is located in local
network, it can be registered with FTP or Samba protocol, but if it is over the Internet, FTP is used.
In case of FTP channel, server’s IP
address(or URL), logon ID and
password are needed and the port number is generally 21, unless assigning other number in server.
In case of Samba, the “share name”
in the server is also necessary.

Additional
Setup Music File Server
1. Samba Server
If the PC server and livOn Player are located in the
same local network(for example, home network), the Samba protocol can be used to share files.
The setup method of Samba varies on devices, so
please refer to the manual of it.
In case of PC with Windows O/S, it can be activated
easily by setting “Share” of a directory in Windows
Explorer. livOn Player can connect to it with Samba protocol to play music files.
IP address of server, logon ID, password and share-
name of the directory are necessary to register livOn Player as a “Channel”.
2. FTP Server
If the server is located in remote site connected
through Internet, the FTP protocol should be used.
In case of PC, download the free FTP server
program from Internet and install it to PC. Then run it and set the directory of music files, logon ID
and password.
In case of NAS storage or others, configure FTP
server according to the guide in its users manual.
In most cases, the server is at home and connected
to Internet via private router, so DDNS(Dynamic Domain Name Service) or similar one should be introduced to access it from remote site.
Please refer to next page to set DDNS service, and
keep the hostname(URL), registered in DDNS, logon
ID and password of FTP server to register “Channel”
of livOn Player.
DDNS(Dynamic Domain Name Service)
In most cases at home, ISP(Internet Service Provider) allocates “dynamically” public IP address to home router. It means the public IP address of router can not be predicted. So in order to connect the server at home from outside through Internet, the dynamic updating IP address of “Domain Name”(URL) with valid IP address is necessary. The most popular service for this purpose is DDNS, and many companies provide this service for free or at a cost.
27
Additional
Setup Personal Hotspot
1. In case of iPhone (based on iOS 5.x.x)
Settings > Personal Hotspot Turn on the status of [Personal Hotspot] Enter Network ID and Password. (Initially)
Keep the Network ID and Password
2. In case of Android smartphone (based on 4.x.x ICS)
Settings > Wi-Fi Network > [Tethering/Personal
Hotspot]
Turn on the status of [Personal Wi-Fi Hotspot] Enter Network ID and Password. (Initially)
Keep the Network ID and Password
The network ID(SSID) and password of personal hotspot can be set any character string you desire.
3. DDNS(Dynamic Domain Name Service) Settings DDNS service is sometimes provided by the
supplier of private router for free, but most
commercial services (such as dyndns) are not free. So please browse Internet to choose which service to use.
When you subscribe DDNS service, you will enter
hostname(URL, for example, mymusic.dyndns.org), username, password and current public IP address.
Current public IP address is displayed on screen.
After subscription, connect to private router and
enter the parameters in the DDNS section of router. Please refer to the manual about how to connect and set the parameters.
Then, server’s private IP address should be set with
“port-forwarding” function of router to make router
relay external FTP connection to internal server. Please set port-forwarding with FTP port number(21)
with server’s private IP address.
All the configuration of private router, including
how to find server’s private IP address, please refer
to its user manual, and set the parameters step-by-
step.
