Powered by four dedicated 5Gb/s controllers, a PCI-E 2.0 x4 host i nterface a nd UAS, Hi ghPoint's RocketU

USB 3.0 archi tecture supports indus try standard USB 2.0 and 3.0 peripherals, such as devic e hubs , card

UAS (USB Attac hed SCSI) enables USB 3.0 devices to store and proc es s multipl e commands i n parallel;

allow it to fully utilize the PCI-E 2.0 x4 host bus interface and deliver uncompromised trans fer bandwidth

Note: xHCI is a computer interface specification that defines a register-level description of a Host
Controller for Universal Serial bus (USB), which is capable of interfacing to USB 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0
compatible devices. The specification is also referred to as the USB 3.0 Host Controller specification.

4.2 Installing the RocketU 114x Host Adapter
Note: Make sure the syst em is powered-off before installing the RocketU host adapter.
1. Open the system chassis.
2. Locate an unus ed PCI-Express ×4 (×8, ×16) s l ot.
3. Remove the PCI-Express slot cover.
4. Gently i ns er t the RU seri es i nto th e PCI-Express slot, and secure the bracket to the system chassis.
5. After i nstalling the ada pter, attach the hard di sks or disk encl osure to the RU seri es card us ing the USB
cables.
6. Close and secure the system chassis.

4.3 Using the 19PIN USB 3.0 Front Panel Port of the RocketU 1142A
The RocketU 1142A provides s tanda rdized USB 3.0 front panel suppor t. It is compatible with a ny standard
USB 3.0 front panel device such as the RocketPanel Series USB 3.0 front panel adapter or the USB 3.0 all in
one card reader front panel a dapters.
Note: Make sure the syst em is powered-off before installing the USB 3.0 Front Panel device.

5 RocketU Series Host Adapter Driver Installation
5.1 Driver Installation - Microsoft Windows
1. Ins ert the Hi ghP oi nt Softwar e CD into the CD/DVD drive.
2. Wi ndows s hould automatica lly start the Softwa re CD, and di splay the foll owing window:

4. Cli ck Fini sh to exi t the wizard when you has s uccessful ly installed dri ver.
Note: The ASMedia ASM1042x driver is embedded into Windows 8. Windows 8 will automatically
use this driver when the RocketU HBA is installed.

5. You can al so install the RocketU 114x dri ver manuall y, usi ng Device Manager. Device Manager will
dis play the RocketU 114x HBA under “Other” devices, with a yellow “!” mark.

6. Right-click the “Universal Serial Bus Controller ” entry an d sel ec t “Upda te Dr i ver S oftwa re”.

7. Sel ect “Browse my computer for driver software” in the popup window.
8. Browse to the following Software CD folder:
\RU1022x_112x_114x\Windows\Dri ver

9. Follow the InstallShield Wi zard’s prompts to ins tal l the RocketU 114x driver. Click “Close” to exit the
Wi zard and reboot once the driver has been successful ly installed.

5.2 Verify Installation of the Software - Microsoft Windows
1. On the Start menu, select 'Control Panel'.
2. Open th e 'Sys tem' ap pl et (you ma y fi rs t ha ve to s elect 'Switch to Clas s ic Vi ew').
3. Sel ect the 'Ha rdware' tab.
4. Sel ect the 'Device Manager' button.
5. Expand the 'Universal Seri al Bus Controll ers' entry. You should see four 'ASMedia xHCI Controller'
entr i es .

5.3 Driver installation -Linux
1. The RocketU 114x HBA’s s upport the xHCI specification. Linux distributions that utilize Kernel v2.6.31
or later will automatically recognize these HBA’s.
2. When USB SSD’s, flash drives or hard drives are attached to the RocketU 114x HBA, the s ystem will
recogni ze them as “s db” devices :

RocketU HBA’s uti lize i ndustry Standard USB Type-A p or ts or eSATA ports. The Type-A ports are compatible
with a ll standardized USB hard dri ves , USB SSDs, and USB enclos ures i ncluding RocketStor s eri es USB 3.0
Storage Docks.
1. Ma ke s ure the RocketU 114 x ha s been ins tal led i nto your PC.
2. Connect the enclos ure or hard dis k to the RocketU 114x HBA wi th USB 3.0 c ables.
3. Allow the dri ves /enc losure to spi n up for a few moments. Once the devices are ready, they wil l be
recognized by the oper ating sys tem a nd can be access ed as needed.

7 Firmware Update
The firmware update uti li ty must be run whil e the system is operati ng in a pure DOS environment. The
update util ity cannot be run from a DOS-prompt window.
1. Vi si t the www.hi ghpoi nt-tech.com
2. Extract the download to a bootable DOS USB dri ve.
3. Boot the sys tem using the boota ble USB dri ve.
4. At the command prompt, access the fi rmware update’s directory:

5. The following command line is used to la unch the fl ash utili ty:
104xfwdl.exe /u 1222_0E.bin
or use the Batch Files:
