The HiFiMAN HE-4 is an open backed magnetostatic headphone with
screwable connection c a ble. The supplied connect ion cable is using
separate gound leads for each channel to minimize crosstalk between
the channels.
Suitably driven the HiFiMAN HE-4 allows for an enormously natural and
homogenous musical reproduction. Hea d phone amplifiers with a
minimum outp ut power of 2 Watts into the unit’s impedance are
recommended. Plea s e a llo w a minimum of 150 hours of constant use for
break-in of your new headphone.
To connect your headphones to an amplifier pleas e use the supplied
cabling. The mini-coax plug with the red dot goes to the righ t side
marked R. (Depending on the cable in use the cable itself can also show
L and R on the plugs.) Pu sh the connector s tr a ig ht onto the socket a nd
then tighten the washer using your fingers. When tightening please
make sure to move the washer only and not the cable as such. A shaky
connection a t this connection can lead to drop outs and distort ion.
Repeat the process with the other mini-coax connector.
The supplied cable with th e la r ge ja c k (6,35 mm) is connected w ith the
typical headphone output of an amplifier or ev en better a headphone
amplifier. Please be a ware that many home am p lifiers switch off the
loudspeaker output when a headphone is connected. The supplied 4Point-Mini-Jack (3,5 mm) is exclusively for use with portable headphone
amplifiers sporting a sy mmetr ic al output. I t d oes not work with typical
mini-jack outputs found in most portable pla yers and some h om e units.
It is theoretically possible to connect you r HiFiMAN HE-4 directly to the
speaker output terminals of your home amplif ie r . However, the amplifier
in use may n ot offer more than 70 Watts of output pow e r a nd must be
stable into th e higher than typical load of the HiFiMAN HE-4 headphone.
Please make s ure to verify both with the manuf a cturer of your a m plifier
before attempting a conne c tion. Caution – overload due to too h igh
voltage or technical defects caused inside the amplifier by attempting
this connec tion are not covere d b y warranty . T his mode of operation is
not recommended.
To clean your headph on e plea s e use a soft slightly damp cloth only . Do
not use any dete r g ents and make s ure not to let any fluid enter the open
sides of the headphon e. Th e lea th er headband can be maintained using
standard leather care products. When your earpads become worn and no
longer offer a good connection to your sku ll you should replace them
with new ones whic h ca n be supplied from your dea ler. The inte r nal
magnetosta tic d r ivers do not require mainten a nce. Any attemp t to
remove them w ill void your wa rranty.
