high fidelity reproduction. Front-panel rocker
type switches are used for the selection of Mode
Tape Mon, Tone Flat, Loudness, Main speakers,
and Remote speakers. Dual Bass and dual Trebl
controls are used in each channel. A Balan
control permits the attenuation of either the right
or left channel signal to compensate for speaker
placement, room acoustics, or other factors that
might otherwise produce unequal sound level
from the speakers
Individual input Level controls, which only nee
to be adjusted occasionally, are located behin
a small door in the front panel. A separate Level
control is provided for each input channel of the
Phono, Tape, Tuner, Tape Monitor, and Auxiliar
inputs. These Level controls enable you to hav
e
qual sound levels when switching from one
source to another
A back-lighted dial, a die cast front panel and a
walnut cabinet (optional) give the Amplifier a
impressive appearance that matches its high
erformance.

Remote speaker systems can be used in conjun
tion with your main speaker systems with this
Amplifier. Any type of high fidelity speaker
that have an impedance between 4 and 16 ohms
,
can be used. Phone jacks are provided on th
front panel so two pairs of stereo headphone
can be used simultaneously. The Speaker switch
es on the front panel will turn off one or bot
speaker systems if only headphone listening is
desired
Thirty transistors and eighteen diodes are used
in the most advanced simiconductor circuitry.
Most of the components are mounted on fiv
printed circuit boards; there are only a fe
chassis-mounted parts. Two cable assemblies
with color-coded wires, connect to numbere
d
h
oles in the circuit boards to minimize assembly
time and reduce the possibility of wiring errors
Overload protection makes the power amplifier
e
circuits virtually short-circuit-proof. Should the
speaker leads be shorted together accidentally
the zener diodes will limit the current in th
output transistors. The thermal circuit breaker
will cut off the DC supply voltage should the out
put transistors in either channel become too hot.
These circuit breakers close automatically whe
the temperature of the output transistors returns
to normal

The Amplifier packaging consists of the large
shipping carton, which contains smaller pack
ages and a number of loose parts. Some of the
smaller packages have numbers 1 through 5
stamped on them (#1, #2, etc.). After these
numbered packages have been removed from
the large carton, the remaining parts in th
carton will be part of package #5.
You will be directed to open each of these pac
ages as they are needed. Each of the assembl
sections of the Manual contains its own Parts
List and Step-By-Step instructions. At the
beginning of each Parts List you will be instruct
ed which numbered package to open. You will
also be directed to remove some of the part
k
from package #5 to complete each assembly
section.
To avoid intermixing parts, do not open any of the
parts packs until directed t
ginning of one of the Parts Lists. Any part that i

packaged in an individual envelope with a par
number on it, should be placed back in its en
velope after it is identified, until that part is
called for in a step.

CAUTION: When soldering parts on
the circuit board, do not use to
much solder. This could cause a so
der bridge between two foils tha
should not be connected together.
If a solder bridge should occur
reheat the connection and quickly
b
rush away the solder between th
foils. Also, after soldering several
com
ponents, wipe the tip of the so
dering iron with a cloth or a dam
s
ponge. Keeping the tip clean wil
insure better solder connections.

at several places in the Amplifier when the lin
c
ord plug is connected to an AC outlet. Use
screwdriver with an insulated handle, and do not
u
let your fingers touch the screwdriver shaft whil
any part of your body is in contact with any con
ductor, metal object, or the chassis. Be especi
ally careful that you do not touch the AC acce
o
sory sockets, POWER switch, or fuseholder.
h
As you make these tests, touch the tip of the
screwdriver blade only to the point specified
Be careful that the screwdriver does not slip, o
short across two points at once. If you do no
get the proper response in any of these tests
refer to Stage-By-Stage Signal Injection (Page
100 in the In Case Of Difficulty section of this
Manual). Then locate and repair the cause o
trouble before you continue with the next test in
this section.
