1 Safety Instructions
1.1 Pictographs
The following pictographs will be used throughout the present operating instructions:
Indicates a possible shock hazard
Contacting components under voltage may lead to death. Housing marked with this symbol may only be opened by qualified electricians after having disconnected the device from the mains supply (supply voltage, operating voltage or input terminal voltage).
Indicates safety relevant passages
You will find this pictograph as an indicator for occupational safety measures. The neglecting of such measures poses a serious hazard. Always observe the instructions and be particularly attentive and careful. Avoid any situations that could at any time be a danger to persons or machines.
Indicates important information
This symbol brings your attention to important information on how to secure a long serviceable life of the radio control system. Pay attention to the comments and instructions given. Ignoring the information provided may permanently impair the reliability and operability of the equipment.

1.2 General Safety Instructions
Radio controls facilitate and increase the operating efficiency of cranes and machines. Nevertheless, the operator must thoroughly understand and be in a position to properly use a radio control system!
Ø Read the Operating Instructions Manual carefully and thoroughly before working with
the transmitter for the first time!
Ø The operator undertakes to strictly adhere to the instructions and proceedings
described in this manual, as well as to follow the general rules and regulations for worker safety and accident prevention. Ignoring any such instructions or regulations could pose a fatal threat to the operator or others.
Ø Keep this manual on location and readily available at all times! Ø Only authorized and properly trained personnel may operate the transmitter. Ø Anyone who is under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication that has a
detrimental effect on a person's reactions may at no time commission, operate, maintain or repair the transmitter.
Ø Before switching the transmitter on ensure that no-one is or can be endangered by
the initiated operation.
Ø Use only original HBC batteries. The use of batteries other than original HBC
batteries can cause malfunction and security problems during the charging process (overheating or even battery explosion)!
Ø With the first signs of any malfunction related to the operative safety and reliability
of the device the operator must immediately shut down or not activate the transmitter. For the purpose of the present manual "shut down" implies: – switching off the transmitter, – storing the transmitter in a safe place and ensuring no unauthorized access, – de-energizing the receiver, – unplugging the connection cable on the receiver!
Ø Defects must be repaired and sources of interference must be removed immediately! Ø A defective transmitter may only be repaired by qualified and competent personnel.
Use only original HBC spare parts. The device security cannot be guaranteed with the use of spare parts other than HBC originals, and this voids our extended warranty. Only the legal warranty regulations are then applicable.
Ø Observe all periodical tests and inspections that are required by law or
recommended in the present operating instructions!
Ø When using the transmitter always observe the regulations and instructions
stipulated in the authoritative worker safety and accident prevention regulations. – The transmitter has been manufactured in accordance with the regulations and
guidelines stipulated in the German Trade Association's "Safety and Accident Prevention Regulations for Operating Cranes by Radio Controls" (BGV D6; ZH 1/547) and DIN EN 13557.
– The transmitter has been tested and approved in accordance with EMC
guidelines and complies with the authoritative standards for emitted interference and interference immunity.
Ø Use the transmitter cautiously and properly. In particular when using a transmitter to
radio control a machine or crane for the first time.

1.3 Operator Safety Instructions
Ø Before beginning crane operation, position yourself so that you have a clear and
complete overview of the working radius of the crane or machine.
Ø Please be careful of assumed changes of direction when you change position! Ø In case of an emergency or any disturbances within the working range of the crane
or machine, switch the transmitter off immediately by pressing the STOP switch. Should the transmitter show signs of technical failure or breakdown, disconnect the radio control system immediately!
Ø Always switch off the transmitter during breaks and after finishing work to avoid
operating errors or any accidental actuation of operator controls. – These precautions are particularly important whenever changing your position or
climbing over an obstacle.
Ø Never leave an activated transmitter unattended. The operator undertakes to follow
and comply with the authoritative regulations for worker safety and accident prevention.
Note:
In the event of an interruption of the radio link during a working cycle – what can occasionally happen – both transmitter and receiver automatically shut down (so-called "compulsory switch-off"). To reactivate the system release all operator controls, such as pushbuttons or momentary contacts, and allow the control elements to return to their zero position. The system must be reactivated before the crane or machine can react to control commands! This feature hinders any uncontrolled or unwanted crane or machine movement, should the radio link be interrupted.
Please observe:
If the crane is equipped with a Main Contactor you must press the button before the crane can react again to control commands!

2 Operation
The transmitter is equipped with an electronic radiomatic® iON key. radiomatic® iON contains all the data required for operating the transmitter. Operation is not possible without radiomatic® iON! The radiomatic® iON can also be used for operation of replacement transmitters of identical construction.
Activating the transmitter
1. Insert a charged battery into the battery compartment.
2. Unlock the STOP switch by turning.
3. Press button. If the display flashes green, the transmitter is ready for operation
Deactivating the transmitter Press the STOP switch.
Caution:
Before starting work always press the button and trigger the acoustic signal. This warns all colleagues that the crane or machine is about to move.
Note:
Replace the battery when the display in the transmitter flashes red and an acoustic signal sounds. Otherwise, the transmitter will switch off in a few minutes. Recharge the empty battery in the respective charger.

Automatic Switch-OFF (APO Function)
For safety reasons we have equipped the transmitter with an automatic switch-OFF (APO = Automatic Power Off function). The transmitter is automatically put out of circuit after 15 minutes of non-use. The automatic switch-OFF also saves battery power.
The transmitter can be reactivated by means of the button.
Note:
The automatic switch-OFF (APO function) does not relieve the operator of his responsibility to turn off the transmitter when not in use!
Frequency Selection
Fixed frequency
If the identification plate in the battery compartment of the transmitter shows a frequency value (e.g. 433.500 MHz), the transmitter operates with a fixed frequency. Please contact your service department if the frequency has to be changed because the frequency channel is already assigned to another operator.
Manual frequency switching
If the identification plate in the battery compartment of the transmitter shows the label man, the transmitter features manual frequency switching. This function can be used to change the frequency channel during radio operation. Press the button into the first step until an acoustic signal sounds. Then release the button.
radiomatic® AFS option
If the identification plate in the battery compartment of the transmitter shows the label
AFS, the transmitter is equipped with radiomatic® AFS (Automatic Frequency Selection).
When activating the transmitter radiomatic® AFS (Automatic Frequency Selection) will check if the present frequency channel is free. If the frequency channel is occupied, the system automatically finds and saves a free frequency channel. The radiomatic® AFS option also includes the manual frequency switching function for changing the frequency channel during radio operation.

2.1 Battery and Battery Charger
2.1.1 Transmitter Battery BA2250_0
The battery capacity depends on the age of the battery and the ambient temperature. Older batteries lose their capacity over time. The battery capacity diminishes more quickly at temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F) and above 40 °C (104 °F).
Please note that the battery
Ø must be charged before initial use. Ø only reaches its full capacity after approx. 5 charging cycles. Ø must be charged at an ambient temperature of 0 – 40 °C (32 – 104 °F) in order to
reach full capacity.
When handled properly the battery can exceed 500 charging cycles: Ø Recharge the battery only when it is empty, i.e. when the red display on the
transmitter blinks and the acoustic signal sounds.
Ø Always store rechargeable batteries at room temperature. Ø Protect the battery from short circuits and always store it in the protective cover
provided.
Ø Charge the battery fully before storing it for a prolonged period. Otherwise total
discharge may occur.

2.1.2 AC Battery Charger for BA2250_0
The charger consists of the battery charger QA101600 with 4 interchangeable standard adapters and the battery compartment QC005A00.
Ø Use this charger for HBC batteries type BA2250_0 only. Ø Use this charger with the included battery compartment only. Ø The charger may not be used in hazardous areas. Ø The charger has to be used indoors only. Ø Use the charger at room temperature and protect it against heat, dust and humidity. Ø Do not cover the charger while it is in use. Ø Disconnect the charger from the power supply when it is not in use. Ø In case of any fault of the charger disconnect it immediately and put it out of
operation.
Ø Do not make any technical changes to the charger. Ø Defects must be repaired by qualified personnel only.
Changing the plug
1. Release the plug by pushing the switch in the direction of the arrow.
2. Select a different plug and insert it into the adapter compartment. Make sure the plug clicks into place.
Charging the battery
1. Connect the battery charger to the mains.
2. Connect the battery charger to the battery compartment.
3. Insert the battery with the inscription facing up into the battery compartment.
The red LED on the charger indicates the actual operating state (see table below).

2.1.3 DC Battery Charger for BA2250_0
The charger consists of the battery charger QD112300 and the battery compartment QC005A00.
Ø Use this charger for HBC batteries type BA2250_0 only. Ø Use this charger with the included battery compartment only. Ø The charger may not be used in hazardous areas. Ø The charger has to be used in vehicles only. Ø Use the charger at room temperature and protect it against heat, dust and humidity. Ø Do not cover the charger while it is in use. Ø Disconnect the charger from the power supply when it is not in use. Ø In case of any fault of the charger disconnect it immediately and put it out of
operation.
Ø Do not make technical changes to the charger. Ø Defects must be repaired by qualified personnel only.
Charging the battery
1. Connect the battery charger to a car socket.
2. Connect the battery charger to the battery compartment.
3. Insert the battery with the inscription facing down into the battery compartment.
The red LED on the charger indicates the actual operating state (see table below).

2.2 Options
2.2.1 Utilization of button as shift key
The RPM+ and RPM– buttons have a dual function. If the button is kept depressed and the RPM+ resp. RPM– button is also activated,
the Motor Start resp. Motor Stop command will be output.
2.2.2 Cable Control Option
Connecting the cable
1. Press the STOP switch on the transmitter.
2. Remove the screw lock on the transmitter and receiver.
3. Connect the transmitter and the receiver with the cable. Ensure that the connector is locked (clockwise).
4. Unlock the STOP switch of the transmitter by turning.
5. Press button.
Note:
– If the connection cable is connected to a transmitter while it is
switched on, the transmitter switches off automatically. Press the button to switch to cable operation.
– When the system is in cable mode the transmitter will receive
the supply-voltage from the receiver. I.e. the transmitter can be used without the battery.
– If the connection cable between the transmitter and the
receiver is removed, the radio system switches off automatically. Press the button to switch back to radio operation.

2.2.3 radiomatic® infrakey Option
radiomatic
®
infrakey is an additional infrared module for the transmitter and the receiver. Due to separate crane activation via infrared link it increases the safety of operation, i.e. the crane can not become inadvertently enabled.
The range of the infrared beam is max. approx. 20 meters (66 feet) and the angle of radiation is 34°.
To activate radiomatic® infrakey, press the button on the transmitter.

2.2.4 Catch – Release Option
Via the Catch – Release Option two or more radio transmitters can control a crane alternately. When the radio receiver is switched on, the crane can initially be controlled via any associated transmitter. Once the radio receiver was taken over by one transmitter, the other transmitters no longer have access.
Take over crane
1. Unlock the STOP switch of the transmitter by turning, and press button.
2. Enter the “Catch“ command on the transmitter. The access rights for the crane remain with that transmitter until the "Release" command
is issued by that transmitter.
Release crane
1. Enter the "Release" command on the transmitter.
2. Press the STOP switch on the transmitter. The access rights for the crane are cancelled. Crane control can be taken over by
another transmitter.
Operating Example
Transmitter 1 has taken over the crane. Transmitter 2 is to be given control.
1. Enter the "Release" command on transmitter 1.
2. Press the STOP switch on transmitter 1.
3. Unlock the STOP switch of transmitter 2 by turning, and press button.
4. Enter the "Catch" command on transmitter 2. Transmitter 2 now has sole access to all crane functions.
Notes:
– If a receiver has already been adopted by a transmitter can be displayed via a lamp
on the crane or machine.
– If the operating voltage of the receiver fails the receiver returns to the starting
condition in which it can be adopted by any transmitter. If necessary the receiver must be adopted anew.
– If the transmitter is deactivated without the command “Release“ having been issued,
the other transmitters have no access to the receiver. The starting condition described above can only be resumed by deactivating the operating voltage at the receiver.

2.2.5 Catch – Release – Tandem Option
Via the Catch – Release – Tandem Option two or more radio transmitters can control several cranes alternately. Each crane is equipped with a radio receiver that can receive and monitor all transmitter frequencies. After activating the receivers all transmitters have equal access to the radio control system.
Release crane
1. Enter the “Release“ command on the transmitter.
The release applies to all active cranes.
2. Press the STOP switch on the transmitter. The access rights for the crane(s) are cancelled. Crane control can be taken over by
another transmitter.
Take over crane
1. Turn rotary switch on the transmitter to the respective position ("A" or "A + B" or
"B").
2. Enter the ”Catch“ command on the transmitter. The transmitter with control over the crane(s) retains the access to the receiver until the
operator has issued the "Release" command.
Operating Example
Transmitter 2 has taken over the crane(s). Transmitter 1 is to be given control over the crane(s):
1. Enter the “Release“ command on transmitter 2.
2. Press the STOP switch on transmitter 2.
3. Unlock the STOP switch of transmitter 1 by turning, and press button.
4. Turn rotary switch on transmitter 1 to the "A" or "A + B" or "B" position.
5. Enter the “Catch“ command on transmitter 1. Transmitter 1 now has sole access to all crane functions.
Notes:
– If a receiver has already been adopted by a transmitter can be displayed via a lamp
on the crane or machine.
– If the operating voltage of the receiver fails the receiver returns to the starting

2.2.6 Tandem Operation Option
Tandem Operation T1
The radio system consists of 1 transmitter and 2 receivers for 2 cranes. The transmitter can control the cranes individually or in parallel.
The cranes are selected at the transmitter via a rotary switch:
A only crane A A+B crane A + crane B B only crane B
Tandem Operation T2
The radio system consists of 2 transmitters and 2 receivers for 2 cranes. Both transmitters are master transmitters and can control the cranes individually or in parallel. During normal operation transmitter 1 controls crane A and transmitter 2 controls crane B. In order to be able to switch to crane B or A + B at transmitter 1, for example, the radiomatic® iON must be removed from transmitter 2 and inserted in transmitter 1.
The cranes are selected at the transmitter via a rotary switch:
A only crane A A+B crane A + crane B B only crane B
Operating Example: Control of crane A + B via transmitter 1.
1. Press the STOP switch on transmitter 1 and 2 and remove the radiomatic® iON from the transmitters.
2. Insert the radiomatic® iON from transmitter 2 in transmitter 1. Crane selection via transmitter 1 is activated.
3. Switch the rotary switch of transmitter 1 to A + B.
4. Unlock the STOP switch of transmitter 1 by turning, and press button
The radio system now operates in tandem mode.

Tandem Operation TM / TS
The radio system consists of 2 transmitters and 2 receivers for 2 cranes. One transmitter is a master transmitter and can control crane A and B individually or in parallel. The other transmitter is a slave transmitter and can only control crane B. In order to be able to switch to crane B or A + B at the master transmitter, the radiomatic® iON must be removed from the slave transmitter and inserted in the master transmitter.
The cranes are selected at the master transmitter via a rotary switch:
A only crane A A+B crane A + crane B B only crane B
Operating Example: Control of crane A + B via master transmitter.
1. Press the STOP switch on master and slave transmitter and remove the radiomatic® iON from the transmitters.
2. Insert the radiomatic® iON from slave transmitter in master transmitter. Crane selection via master transmitter is activated.
3. Switch the rotary switch of master transmitter to A + B.
4. Unlock the STOP switch of master transmitter by turning, and press button
The radio system now operates in tandem mode.

3 Fault Correction
Note:
Please check the functions using the cabin or cable controls first!
Problem Possible Cause Remedy
Transmitter does not react when switched on.
Low-power indicator after the display in the
transmitter flashes red.
The display in the transmitter flashes green but it is not possible to effect control commands.
No power.
Battery contacts are
contaminated or damaged.
Battery not charged.
Battery defective.
The receiver has no

There is no radio communication available.
The "Crane On" command has not been given.
Check the battery contacts for damage or contamination.
Insert a fully charged battery into the battery compartment.
Recharge battery.
Check battery contacts
for damage or contamination.
Fully recharge battery.
Ensure that recharging
process runs correctly.
Check transmitter functions using a fully charged or replacement battery.
Check the connecting cable to the receiver.
Check the functions via the LEDs in the radio status panel of the receiver.
Some commands are not carried out.

There is an interruption
in the connecting cable to the crane or machine.

Check if all connecting cables and cable junctions are tight.
Contact a service technician if necessary.

4 Maintenance
The radio control system is virtually maintenance-free. The following points, however, should be taken into consideration:
Ø Ensure that the STOP switch works smoothly.
Contaminants of any kind can reduce or fully block the switch function.
Ø Inspect the rubber bellows of the operating elements regularly for leak-tightness.
Replace immediately if cracks appear since the penetration of dirt and humidity may damage the function of the operating elements.
Ø Charge and discharge transmitter batteries regularly. Ø Never use a high-pressure cleaner or steam jet cleaner to "clean" the transmitter.
Use a soft brush or cloth only!
Note:
Should you have any problems with the radio control system, contact your local distributor or HBC-radiomatic GmbH.
4.1 In the Event of a Fault
Warning:
Never operate a crane or machine with a faulty or defective radio control system!
Ø Never try to repair the transmitter electronics! Opening the transmitter housing
terminates the manufacturer guarantee. – Send any defective or faulty equipment to your local distributor or to the
