SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Please read the following Important Safety Information
•Never operate a pool without all main drain covers SECURELY in place.
•FAILURE to ensure main drain covers are SECURELY attached could result in SERIOUS BODILY INJURY or DEATH.
•Use ONLY the correct Hayward stainless steel screws to secure cover. If screws are lost, order replacements from your supplier.
•Building codes require TWO functioning pool drain/suction outlets.
The pool shall not be operated if the suction outlet cover is missing, broken or secured in such a way that it can be removed without the use of tools.
If the suction outlet system, such as a filtration system, booster system, automatic cleaning system, solar system, etc., has a single suction outlet, or multiple suction outlets which can be isolated by valves, each suction outlet shall protect against bather entrapment by either:
A)An antivortex cover,
B)A twelve inch by twelve inch (12” x 12”) or larger grate,
C)Other means.
CAUTION: All drains must be installed according to applicable codes and standards in effect at time of installation.
The open area of the grate must be at least four (4) times the area of the pipe, or provide sufficient area so the maximum velocity of the water passing through the grate will not exceed two feet (2’) per second. With anti-vortex type outlets, entrance velocities may be increased to six feet (6’) per second.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
A sump must be formed for the frame and grate models listed above. (Except for Model SP1062 (Diagram A above) which is provided with a complete main drain sump). This sump must be formed to accept the frame size indicated and be plumbed with the pipe size indicated. The dimension between the top surface of the grate and the center line of the outlet pipe must be, at minimum, the dimension indicated above.
Main Drains for concrete and gunite pools are designed to be plastered flush with edge of grate.
