Normal Operation – Net Selection
The following describes normal operation of the radio.
a. Place the Toggle Switch in the Plain Text (PT) or
Cipher Text (CT) (encrypted) position.
b. Power up the radio by turning the FUNCTION
switch to select net 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, or place the
FUNCTION switch in the FP position and press the
[PRE + or PRE –] button to select the desired
fixed-frequency or hopping net.

Whisper operation is automatic, just whisper directly into the
internal MIC (see diagram) or the attached MIC.
SCAN Mode
To enter SCAN mode, turn the FUNCTION switch to the
SCAN position. If SCAN mode is enabled, SCAN will initiate
automatically.
To exit SCAN mode, turn the FUNCTION switch to a
position other than SCAN.
Zeroize
To erase all programmed variables, including encryption
variables:
a. Turn the FUNCTION switch to the Z-ALL
position.
b. Move the toggle switch to the Z position
momentarily, and then release the toggle switch.
The display will indicate when zeroize is complete.
Battery
To check battery capacity, press the [MODE] button and select
TEST. Select BATTERY. The voltage and charge capacity are
both displayed.

FP Displayed Fault/Warning Transmit Meter
SAVE Net Configuration Changes
To save net configuration changes, press the [OPT] button,
then select SAVE and press [ENT].
Communications Security (COMSEC)
To select a different encryption key (TEK), press the [OPT]
button, select COMSEC, then press the [ENT] button. Enter
the TEK number and then press [ENT]. Use the up/down arrow buttons to select MINERR or RESYNC, then press [ENT].
Speaker
To toggle the radio speaker ON or OFF, press the [OPT] button, then select SPKR. Select ON or OFF, then press [ENT].
GPS
To view radio’s position or position of radios that have reported
their position, press the [OPT] button, select GPS, then select
VIEW.
To force report current position, select REPORT. (Only avail-
able in a Directed or Wireless IP Net.)
Short Messaging Service (SMS)
To view received SMS messages, press the [OPT] button, then
select SMS. Use the left/right arrow buttons to set SELECT
flashing. Use the up/down arrow buttons to select a specific
message, then press [ENT] to view the entire message.
To send an SMS message, use the left/right arrow button to set
NEW flashing, press [ENT], and then follow the SMS text
entry procedure. Only available in a Directed or Wireless IP
Net.
Power
To select either HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW transmit power,
press the [OPT] button, then select POWER. Select the de-
sired power level, then press the [ENT] button.
Display Adjustment
To configure the Keypad/Display backlight operation, intensity
and contrast, press the LT button.
a. To have the backlight remain on for a short time after
any button is pressed, use the up/down arrow buttons
to select MOMENTARY, then press the [ENT]
button. To have the backlight remain continuously
on, select ON, then press the [ENT] button. To
disable the backlight, select OFF, then press the
[ENT] button.
b. Use the left/right arrow buttons to adjust the
backlight intensity, then press the [ENT] button.
c. Use the left/right arrow buttons to adjust the display
contrast, then press the [ENT] button to exit.

DESCRIPTION: This message indicates the loss of all
radio configuration, COMSEC, and TRANSEC data.
ACTION: Radio must be reprogrammed. If condition
persists, radio needs repair.
***** WARNING ******
NO TEK FILLED
DESCRIPTION: Radio was placed into CT cipher
switch position with no valid crypto key loaded.
ACTION: Put the radio in PT or program the required
crypto key.
***** WARNING ******
NO HOPSET FILLED
DESCRIPTION: A hopping net was loaded, but no
valid hopset is programmed.
ACTION: Change nets or program radio with a valid
hopset.

Operational Modes
TEST Mode
To place the radio in TEST mode, press the [MODE] button. Use
the up/down arrow buttons to select TEST and press the [ENT]
button.
CLONE Mode
To copy configuration parameters from one radio to another:
a. Press the [MODE] button, select CLONE and press
[ENT].
b. Enter the frequency to use (all radios must be the
same).
c. Enter the encryption key to use (all radios must be
the same).
d. Select receive for the radios to be programmed.
e. Select transmit for the source radio.
KEYPAD LOCK (or Unlock) Mode
To lock keypad, press [MODE], select KEYPAD LOCK, press
[ENT].
To unlock keypad, press [MODE], enter LEVEL 0 password (if
a password is installed), and press [ENT].
RADIO LOCK/UNLOCK
To lock radio, press [MODE], select RADIO LOCK, press
[ENT.]
To unlock radio, press [CLR] five (5) times in rapid succession.
Battery Replacement
Program parameters and COMSEC/TRANSEC variables are
retained for a minimum of 15 minutes with battery removed.
