Install Dinghy Clew Hook
Use provided line to tie clew hook to
boom with open end of hook pointing to port (see photo below). Wrap
line around boom and through clew
hook three times. Tie a very tight
“square knot.” Tape ends close to
knot. Line may stretch with time. Retie
as needed. Lead outhaul line through
closed loop of hook as shown at right
and lead the outhaul line down the
starboard side as shown at right.
Hook-/Unhook Sail
Hooking Sail: Ease vang
and outhaul. Lift boom and
pass hook through clew
grommet. First trim outhaul
and then vang.
Un-Hooking Sail: Ease vang
and outhaul. Lift boom with
your right hand and push
hook out with your left hand.

Add Block to Dinghy Clew Hook
To add more outhaul
power, attach Harken
404 block to hook “eye”.
To install, slip block onto
straight end of hook.
Position at eye as shown.
Reeve outhaul line as
shown in photo below.
Tip: Spray boom with dry lubricant like McLube® to make outhaul adjustment
easier.
Maintenance
Flush block and hook frequently with fresh water.
