APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
RTA-50 (Indoor/Outdoor) is specifically designed for use in conjunction with HARDCAST DT-5300, DT-5400, and DT-6100 pressureless tape. It is recommended for application to sheetmetal ductwork.
1. HARDCAST recommends the use of our Two Part II Dispenser. When using the dispenser, the bottom guide roller is submerged in the sealant. The coating control roller should be adjusted to apply a liberal coating of adhesive on the tape as it emerges from the dispenser. Only DT-5300 and DT-5400 will fit the Two Part II Dispenser.
2. Pull the tape slowly through the dispenser so that it can absorb sufficient sealant and cut to the desired length. The easiest sizes to handle are 12" to 18" lengths which can be overlapped on each other to form a continuous band around the duct.
3. Apply the tape to duct joint with the heavier coated side down and press firmly to ensure total contact with duct surface. Work out any air bubbles entrapped under tape. Apply tape to surface immediately after coating with sealant.
4. Apply a top coat of RTA-50 sealant over the tape with a brush.
5. IF A TWO PART II DISPENSER IS NOT AVAILABLE, THE TAPE CAN BE APPLIED USING THE FOLLOWING METHOD:
Cut the tape to the desired (manageable) length and place it on a flat surface. Using a paintbrush apply sealant directly to both sides of the tape then apply tape to duct joint.
6. Allow a minimum of 72 HOURS drying time before turning on the system (on interior duct only).
7. After the sealant has dried a minimum of 72 HOURS, on exterior duct apply an additional coat of RTA-50 to tape surface. Drying time may take longer depending on temperature and relative humidity conditions.
8. Coverage: Approximately 1 gallon RTA-50 per two 3” X 150’ rolls of DT-Tape.
CAUTION: Surface must be clean and free of moisture, contamination and foreign matter for best results. Do not apply when
rain or freezing temperatures will occur within 72 hours. Use only latex or epoxy based paints to cover Hardcast products.
CAUTION: If product freezes, return to room temperature and stir before use.
LEAKAGE TEST: Use smoke method only. Do not use soap and water for test.
